Flame spreading over liquid fuel surface has been investigated using thermocouple and schlieren photograph. Without forced convection, it was clearly found that the flame spreading is mainly controlled by surface flow which is maybe generated by change of surface tension. Furthermore, the radiative heat transfer is dominant over a conductive heat transfer in kerosene. But the latter was found more influential than the former in diesel. Oscillation of flame spreading was found. It maybe cause of surface flow.
Mixed heat transfer in an indirected NIR (Near Infrared Ray) dry chamber was investigated numerical analysis. It is Important that the miked heat transfer effects on double parameters which the Reynolds number and the position of emit lamp. Reynolds number are based on the outer diameter of the cylinder range from 103 to $30{\times}105$. Four difference heat transfer regimes of behavior are apparent: forced convection and radiation on the outer surface of the cylinder, pure conduction, pure natural convection and radiation between lamp surface and inner surface of the cylinder. The temperature and flow patterns are illustrated by iso-contour lines for the double parameters. Also presented are results on the convective heat transfer flux and the radiative heat transfer flux as increased with Reynolds number.

Steam power generation is used to produce electricity through a generator that is connected to a steam turbine. As a result, the surface temperature of the deaerator is $70^{\circ}C$during the summer season, the surface temperature of the storage tank is $67^{\circ}C$, and the air temperature is $50^{\circ}C$. This environment is inappropriate for workers and instruments. Workers adjacent to the deaerator and storage tank in particular feel higher temperatures because of the radiative heat transfer effect. Therefore, we optimized the cooling conditions by computational analysis. Case 1 is the current shape of the power plant, Case 2 has additional insulation, and Case 3 has a radiation shield. Flow is caused by a temperature difference between the heat sources in the wall, and hot air is trapped in the right upper end. Based on the temperature contours and the maximum temperature of the surfaces, Case 2 was found to be the most efficient for reducing radiative heat transfer effects.
Quenching constants, q, determined for N,N-dimethylanilines by liquid scintillation counting indicate that the quenching involves an energy transfer process to these compounds causing strong n-${\pi}$ interaction within the quencher molecule, which is then followed by an non-radiative degradation of the excitation energy to ground state.

Wireless power transfer (WPT) system is very attractive because it removes power cables from home appliances, office equipments and battery chargers for electric vehicles. In this paper, non-radiative WPT systems studied recently are claimed to be technologically or theoretically identical in operation irrespective of the number of coils. Especially, 2-coil and 3-coil systems are compared in detail. It is also shown that multiplicity of coils does not increase power transfer capability.

This paper numerically deals with combined heat transfer in a enclosure with a block. The block affected by hot wall is located centrally in the enclosure with a radiating gray gas. The discrete ordinate method(DOM) was used for solving the radiative transfer equation. Both laminar and turbulent cases were investigated for various Rayleigh number and standard k-$\varepsilon$ model was adopted to turbulent case. The effects of optical thickness, wall emissivity and fluid-solid thermal conductivity ratio are investigated on the flow and temperature fields. This study shows that as the wall emissivity decreases, the temperature distribution gradually becomes uniform and the heat transfer is reduced in enclosure. It is expected that this study can help to design the energy system related to the combined heat transfer and operate it safely.
To reproduce the multiple broad peaks and the fine spectral features in the spectral energy distributions (SEDs) of T Tauri stars, we model dust around T Tauri stars using a radiative transfer model for multiple isothermal circumstellar dust shells. We calculate the radiative transfer model SEDs for multiple dust shells using the opacity functions for various dust grains at different temperatures. For six sample stars, we compare the model results with the observed SEDs including the Spitzer spectral data. We present model parameters for the best fit model SEDs that would be helpful to understand the overall structure of dust envelopes around classical T Tauri stars. We find that at least three separate dust components are required to reproduce the observed SEDs. For all the sample stars, an innermost hot (250-550 K) dust component of amorphous (silicate and carbon) and crystalline (corundum for all objects and forsterite for some objects) grains is needed. Crystalline forsterite grains can reproduce many fine spectral features of the sample stars. We find that crystalline forsterite grains exist in cold regions (80-100 K) as well as in hot inner shells.

In this paper, we describe a measurement technique for the backscattering coefficient and ground truth of a vegetation canopy in detail. A simple microwave backscattering model for vegetation canopies is verified by being compared with this measurement. An R-band$(1.7\sim2.0GHz)$ scatterometer system is used to measure the backscattering coefficient of a vegetated area in the Han-river park for various incidence angles and a wide range of the soil moisture contents. It is found that the model agrees quite well with the measurements for co-polarized radar backscatter, and needs a correction for cross polarized radar backscatter.
RCCS is a passive safety-related system that removes the decay heat of VHTR when normal decay heat removal systems are in failure. Understanding thermo-hydraulics of RCCS is important to design a safer VHTR. RCCS consists of 292 cooling panels, which are placed in the reactor cavity. The layout of RCCS gives an idea that, for CFD simulations, cooling panels can be assumed to be one annulus tube. This assumption can reduce significantly the computational time, especially for the unsteady simulation. To simulate RCCS in an axisymmetric manner, three models were suggested and compared. Each model has (1) the same outer radius, (2) the same cross-sectional area (3) the same pressure drop, respectively, as the RCCS cooling panels. The steady-state simulation was conducted with these three models and the DO radiation model. It is found that over 90% of the heat from the outer wall of the reactor pressure vessel is transported to the RCCS by radiative heat transfer. The simulation with the third model, which has the same pressure drop as the design, estimates the closest wall temperature profiles to a thermo-hydraulic code, GAMMA+, result.
Determining 'photosynthetically active radiation' (PAR) is a key part of calculating phytoplankton productivity in a biogeochemical model. We explore the daily and seasonal variability in the ratio of PAR irradiance to total irradiance that occurred at Ieodo Ocean Research Station (IORS) in the East China Sea under clear-sky conditions in 2004 using a simple radiative transfer model (RTM). Meteorological data observed at IORS and aerosol optical properties derived from Aerosol Robotic Network observations at Gosan are used for the RTM. Preliminary results suggest that the use of simple PAR irradiance-ratio values is appropriate in calculating phytoplankton productivity as follows: an average of $0.44\;({\pm}0.01)$ in January to an average of $0.48\;({\pm}0.01)$ in July, with average daily variabilities over these periods of about $0.016\;({\pm}0.008)$ and $0.025\;({\pm}0.008)$, respectively. The model experiments demonstrate that variations in the major controlling input parameters (i.e. solar zenith angle, precipitable water vapor and aerosol optical thickness) cause PAR irradiance ratio variation at daily and seasonal timescales. Further, increases (>0.012) in the PAR irradiance ratio just below the sea-surface are positively correlated with high solar zenith angles and strong wind stresses relative to those just above the sea-surface.
