  • In this paper, digital ultra-narrowband Walky-Talky using direct conversion method for CQPSK modulation scheme is implemented with satisfying the requirements of APCO P25. RF transceiver design and implementation scheme that minimize the influence of DC-offset and AC-coupling at ultra-narrowband is proposed. This scheme also minimizes the influence of nonlinear characteristic at power amplifier fir CQPSK modulation method. Test results of full system including DSP module and direct conversion RF transceiver show that FCC emission mask at 36.8 dBm PEP meets the standard requirements. The characteristic of receiver AGC by PWM control signal is linear at 40 dB dynamic range and voice communication at input power level of -116 dBm is successful. Also it is verified that the performance of BER versus frequency offset and versus SNR meets the standard requirements.

  • This paper presents a lateral resistive contact RF MEMS switch using comb drive. Our goal was to fabricate the RF MEMS switch with high reliability and good RF characteristics for front end module in wireless transceiver system. Therefore, comb drive is used for large contact force in order to achieve low insertion loss and small off-state capacitance in order to achieve high isolation. The single crystalline silicon is used for mechanical reliability. As a result, the developed switch showed insertion loss less than 0.44 dB at 2 GHz, isolation greater than 60 dB, and low actuation voltage at 26 V.

  • As a transmitter sub-assembly in the XFP(10 Gb/s Small Form Factor Pluggable) transceiver module, a transmitter optical sub-assembly(TOSA) is designed, fabricated and characterized in view of electrical and thermal performances. For a low-cost and compact packaging TOSA, the bias-tee and the matching resistor are monolithically integrated on the AlN sub-mount and a newly designed coplanar waveguide is drawn in the TO-stem. All optoelectronic components packaged in the TOSA are modeled by the equivalent circuit, which helps to improve and characterize the TOSA performance. The fabricated TOSA shows the -3㏈ bandwidth as high as 11 GHz at an elevated temperature of 85$^{\circ}C$.

  • In this paper, design and implementation of a very compact and cost effective front-end module are presented for IEEE 802.16 FWA(fixed Wireless Access) in the 40 GHz band. A multi-layer LTCC(Low Temperature Co-fred Ceramic) technology with cavity process to achieve excellent electrical performances is used to fabricate the front-end module. The wirebond matching circuit design of switch input/output port and waveguide transition to connect antenna are optimally designed to keep transmission loss low. To reduce the size of the front-end module, the dielectric waveguide filter is developed instead of the metal waveguide filter. The LTCC is composed of 6 layers(with the thickness of a layer of 100 um) having a relative dielectric constant of 7.1. The front-end module is implemented in a volume of $30{\times}7{\times}0.8mm^3$ and shows an overall insertion loss < 5.3 dB, and image rejection value > 49 dB.

  • This paper describes implementation of the 5.0GHz RF frequency synthesizer with 0.18${\mu}m$ silicon CMOS technology being used as an application of the IEEE802.15.4 USN sensor node transceiver modules. To get good performance of speed and noise, design of the each module like VCO, prescaler, 1/N divider, fractional divider with ${\Sigma}-{\Delta}$ modulator, and common circuits of the PLL has been optimized. Especially to get excellent performance of high speed and wide tuning range, N-P MOS core structure and 12 step cap banks have been used in design of the VCO. The chip area including pads for testing is $1.1{\times}0.7mm^2$, and the chip area only core for IP in SoC is $1.0{\times}0.4mm^2$. Through analysing of the fabricated frequency synthesizer, we can see that it has wide operation range and excellent frequency characteristics.

To get good performance of speed and noise, design of the each module like VCO, prescaler, 1/N divider, fractional divider with ${\Sigma }-{\Delta}$ modulator, and common circuits of the PLL has been optimized. Especially to get good performance of speed, power consumption, and wide tuning range, N-P MOS core structure has been used in design of the VCO. The chip area including pads for testing is $1.2{\times}0.7mm^2$, and the chip area only core for IP in SoC is $1.1{\times}0.4mm^2$. The test results show that there is no special spurs except -63.06dB of the 6MHz reference spurs in the PLL circuitry. There is good phase noise performance like -116.17dBc/Hz in 1MHz offset frequency.

  • This study describes the design and implementation of TRM(Transmit and Receiver Module) for detection for targets of small RCS(Radar Cross Section). Through the pre-simulation analysis of radar system about RF, the main specifications of TRM are verified. After the fabrication of TRM, the main characteristics such as the maximum output, noise figure, spurious were confirmed. In the future, the radar system test will be carried out by assembling TRMs, antenna radiator, and the transceiver that generates and receivers the radar waveform reflected.

  • In this paper, we propose optical subcarrier mutiplexing(SCM) transceiver module for base station(BS) that has no optical source and can be used for full-duplex communication over single optical fiber. In this method we retransmit optical modulated signal to the central office(CO) using loop-back system with a ring type Mach-Zehnder modulator(MZM) in BS, where optical source is transmitted from the CO. We have modeled the ring type MZM and were conformed that the measured results were in good agreement with the modeling. In the ring type MZM, the optical symmetric position of the MZM is very important in RF signal transmission.

  • This paper presents the new development result of the multi-band, the multi-mode SDR(Software Defined Radar) platform. The SDR hardware platform is implemented by using the reconfigurable multi-band RF transceiver and antenna modules of S, X, and K-bands, and a programmable signal processing module. The SDR software platform is implemented by using the multi-mode waveform generation of CW, Pulse, FMCW, and LFM Chirp as well as the adaptable algorithm library of signal processing and open API software modules. Through the integrated test of the SDR platform, the operational performance was verified in real-time. Also, through the field-application test, the ground target and air-vehicle drone target were successfully detected and their test results were presented.
