  • Let $\mathcal{QA}$ denote the class of bounded linear Hilbert space operators T which satisfy the operator inequality $T^*|T^2|T{\geq}T^*|T|^2T$. Let $f$ be an analytic function defined on an open neighbourhood $\mathcal{U}$ of ${\sigma}(T)$ such that $f$ is non-constant on the connected components of $\mathcal{U}$. We generalize a theorem of Sheth [10] to $f(T){\in}\mathcal{QA}$.

  • In this paper, we study a special class of linear codes, called skew cyclic codes, over the ring $R=F_p+vF_p$, where $p$ is a prime number and $v^2=v$. We investigate the structural properties of skew polynomial ring $R[x,{\theta}]$ and the set $R[x,{\theta}]/(x^n-1)$. Our results show that these codes are equivalent to either cyclic codes or quasi-cyclic codes. Based on this fact, we give the enumeration of distinct skew cyclic codes over R.

  • In this paper, a new discrete variable structure controller based on a new sliding surface and discrete version of the disturbance observer is suggested for the control of uncertain linear systems. The reaching phase is completely removed by introducing a new proposed sliding surface. The discrete version of the disturbance observer is derived for the effective compensation of the effect of uncertainties and disturbances. A corresponding control input with the disturbance compensation is selected to guarantee the quasi sliding mode on the predetermined sliding surface for guaranteeing the designed output in the sliding surface from any initial condition to the origin for all the parameter variations and disturbances. By using Lyapunov function, the closed loop stability and the existence condition of the quasi sliding mode is proved. Finally, an illustrative example is presented to show the effectiveness of the algorithm.

  • In this paper, a new discrete static output feedback variable structure controller based on a new dynamic-type sliding surface and output feedback discrete version of the disturbance observer is suggested for the control of uncertain linear systems. The output feedback discrete version of disturbance observer is derived for effective compensation of uncertainties and disturbance. A corresponding control with disturbance compensation is selected to guarantee the quasi sliding mode on the predetermined dynamic-type sliding surface for guaranteeing the designed output in the dynamic-type sliding surface from any initial condition for all the parameter variations and disturbances. • For estimating missing cells in contingency table, we suggest an iterative method which extends IPF (Iterative Proportional Fitting) method. The suggested m~thod is not restricted by the number and the location of missing cells, and does not distort the given quasi-independency.

  • Magnetostrictive materials have nonlinear elasto-magnetic properties. However the constitutive equations to describe the nonlinear properties are not available, yet. In this study we develope the equation in magnetostrictive materials by use of piezomagnetic constitutive equation which is quasi-linearized. With the wave equation, we determine the propagation velocity inside the magnetostrictive materials when a plane wave propagates along a given magnetic field. Validity of the calculated velocity is verified through comparison with experimental velocity measurement results for the most representative magnetostrictive materials. Terfenol-D.

  • In this paper, the technique to reinforce the durability performance of structure using the sensitivity information for the frame structure is applied. The fatigue life calculation for the frame structure is performed from the quasi-static and transient analysis and the characteristics of two methods are compared for the fatigue analysis. Then the reinforcement technique is applied. First, some design variables related to the locations of fatigue failure is selected. Then sensitivities of fatigue life at fracture points with respect to the variation of design variables are calculated and the vector composed of gaps between the target life and initial life cycles is calculated. If the number of fatigue fracture points is same as the number of design variables, the variations of the design variables are calculated from the linear algebraic equation. If not, the variations of the design variables are calculated from the optimization formulation with the constraints.

  • Nonlinear dynamic system under random excitation was analyzed by using stochastic method. A linearization method was used in order to linearize non-linear structural characteristics but the parametric excitation was used as it was given. An equivalent energy method which equalizes the expectation value of energy of the original nonlinear system and that of quasi-linearized system was proposed. Ito's differential rule was applied to obtain steady state moments. Quasi-linearization coefficients can be obtained the iterative calculation of linearization scheme and steady state moments. Monte Carlo simulation was used to verify the results of the proposed method. Nonlinear vibration of a slender beam was analyzed in this research. The analysis results were compared with Monte Carlo simulation result and showed good agreement. As the spectral density of the given excitation increased, the analysis results showed the better agreement with Monte Carlo simulation.

  • The paper presents results of FE-calculations on shear localizations in quasi-brittle materials during both an uniaxial plane strain compression and uniaxial plane strain extension. An elasto-plastic model with a linear Drucker-Prager type criterion using isotropic hardening and softening and non-associated flow rule was used. A non-local extension was applied in a softening regime to capture realistically shear localization and to obtain a well-posed boundary value problem. A characteristic length was incorporated via a weighting function. Attention was focused on the effect of mesh size, mesh alignment, non-local parameter and imperfections on the thickness and inclination of shear localization. Different methods to calculate plastic strain rates were carefully discussed.
