  • Consider a production system where all manufactured products are screened through automatic inspection equipment. The products for which the measured value of quality characteristic is larger than the lower screening specification limit (SL) and smaller than the u, pp.r screeing specification limit(SU) are accepted. Those smaller than SL are reworked and those larger than SU are excluded from the process. Assuming that the quality characteristic is normally distributed with known variance, this paper suggests cost models which involve inspection cost, production cost, rework cost, exclusion cost and quality cost, and presents the methods of finding the optimal values of the screening specification limits and the process target. Numerical example is given to demonstrate the a, pp.icability of the cost models suggested in this paper.

  • Purpose: This paper evaluates the performance of the pre-control(PC), an alternative to statistical process control techniques and compares with a control chart considering the tolerance of process. Methods: The previous studies for PC have drawbacks that PC with two linked stages, qualification and running, are discussed separately and independently. Hence this paper analyzes the performance of PC by integrating two stages. Results: Average outgoing quality limits to grasp the outcome of PC are provided by computational results for two process capability indexes, $C_p$ and $C_{pk}$ and the usefulness of PC from comparative experiments with modified control charts is commented. Conclusion: Helpful guidelines for quality managers to apply PC in practice and areas of process for PC to be more benefit are presented.

  • When the linear correlation of the quality variables are considerably high, multivariate control charts may be a more effective way than univariate charts which operate quality variables and process parameters individually. Performances and efficiencies of the multivariate control charts under multivariate normal process has been considered. Some numerical results are presented under small scale of the shifts in the process to see the improvement of the efficiency of EWMA chart and CUSUM chart, which use past quality information, comparing to Shewart chart, which do not use quality information. We can know that the decision of the optimum value of the smoothing constant in EWMA structure or the reference value in CUSUM structure are very important whether we adopt combine-accumulate technique or accumulate-combine technique under the given condition of process.

  • Total quality management has been a focus of concern in recent years since some dissatisfaction with the results from implementation of quality assurance programs in the U.S. Many managerial methodologies and innovation guidelines from academic disciplines have been applied to promote TQM programs in the health field. This paper consists of two folds of aspects: firstly to examine TQM's managerial philosophy by comparing with the newly introduced managerial concepts in Business Reengineering; and then to introduce a method for an integrative way of process analysis, Entity Life-Cycle Diagram (ELCD) modeling. The analysis method was compared with Process Map, which is a well-known method for BR applications. To show effectiveness of ELCD modeling, a case of application was introduced using 'drug' as a target entity. With having TQM issues in mind, the result was reflected in designing Entity Relation Diagrams. The results of ELCD modeling turn out to be helpful in designing database related to quality monitoring, in that many monitoring check points can be identified in a systematic way and that queries cross-sectional over organizational boundaries can be generated with a consistent view focusing on the drug use as a single process. Full evaluation of the analysis method remains to be studied until the completion of the information system under construction. But as long as TQM is based on a process-oriented view and needs supports from information system, ELCD can be one of the appropriate choice as a tool for the process analysis.

  • The integration of Quality Circles and Six-Sigma has gained attentions for the attainment of enhanced customer satisfaction, costs reduction, and improved business performance. The purpose of this paper is to verify the benefit from the integration of Quality Circles and Six-Sigma by applying the integrated process for an alcohol manufacturing line. In the integrated process, we used the first three steps of Six-Sigma of Define, Measure, and Analyze(D-M-A) and then applied the concept of Quality Circle, which has good performance in the Improvement and Control(I-C) process. For the selection of the theme of quality circles, Analytic Hierarch Process(AHP) is used, and we also employed the experimental design, which is designed to find an optimal operating condition. Furthermore, the results of the economic analysis confirm that the integration process would be successful in reducing the incidence of defects and the quality cost.

  • The purpose of this study is to present a case study of six sigma quality improvement practice in cooling fan motor(CFM) manufacturing processes. In this study, the CFM manufacturing process of automobile parts not relevant to the target process rate of the process point of view, in order to reduce the system to solve the problem of localized resolution procedures of six sigma DMAIC methodology was applied to study. In conclusion, this study's field D in order to improve the initial rate of inadequate quality management best practices by applying the method of Six Sigma quality CFM failure through stabilization schemes were proposed cost reduction. To be CFM product to satisfy customers based on continuous monitoring of the effective field of claims quality management system is required.

  • The quality of a final SOFTWARE PACKAGE depends on many complicated factors in the software development process. This paper describes ststistical methods for establishing relationships between final quality and development process factors. The final software quality is represented by the number of errors through the system test phase. The data presented here were gathered during the course of a real IS-month development project. Regression theory is used for data analysis. Some of the interesting results include the observation that specification changes during the development process have an adverse effect on final software quality.

  • This paper analyzes the difference between theoretical cost of quality and real world cost. Examined are the theoretical cost structure of quality, it's measurement styles, a process based improvement strategy of quality cost, and possible adaptation of decision making concepts in enhancing the cost structure. This study will contribute to the literature in delineating an improvement process of quality cost by adjusting service policy.

  • As product quality is maily determined in the product design and process design step, systematic design should be performed through parameter design and tolerance design. Therefore, we introduced analysis of variance and regression analysis as a statistical method which determine optimal levels of affective design factors to product characteristics, then we compared that process and result. In analysis of variance, variation of quality characteristics arises from noise factors, so the optimal levels of design factors are selected to minimize the effect of noise factors. In regression analysis, variation of quality characteristics aries from variation of each own design factors. As a method to reduce variation of these quality characteristics, sensitivity analysis was performed about each design factors. Through this sensitivity analysis, we represented process to calculate the interaction term of the factors.
