  • In this present paper, we study QSM-connection (quarter-symmetric metric connection) on Sasakian statistical manifolds. Firstly, we express the relation between the QSM-connection ${\tilde{\nabla}}$ and the torsion-free connection ∇ and obtain the relation between the curvature tensors ${\tilde{R}}$ of ${\tilde{\nabla}}$ and R of ∇. After then we obtain these relations for ${\tilde{\nabla}}$ and the dual connection ∇* of ∇. Also, we give the relations between the curvature tensor ${\tilde{R}}$ of QSM-connection ${\tilde{\nabla}}$ and the curvature tensors R and R* of the connections ∇ and ∇* on Sasakian statistical manifolds. We obtain the relations between the Ricci tensor of QSM-connection ${\tilde{\nabla}}$ and the Ricci tensors of the connections ∇ and ∇*. After these, we construct an example of a 3-dimensional Sasakian manifold admitting the QSM-connection in order to verify our results. Finally, we study the submanifolds with the induced connection with respect to QSM-connection of statistical manifolds.

  • Objective: To assess focal mineral deposition in the globus pallidus (GP) by CT and quantitative susceptibility mapping (QSM) of MRI scans and evaluate its clinical significance, particularly cerebrovascular degeneration. Materials and Methods: This study included 105 patients (66.1 ± 13.7 years; 40 male and 65 female) who underwent both CT and MRI with available QSM data between January 2017 and December 2019. The presence of focal mineral deposition in the GP on QSM (GPQSM) and CT (GPCT) was assessed visually using a three-point scale. Cerebrovascular risk factors and small vessel disease (SVD) imaging markers were also assessed. The clinical and radiological findings were compared between the different grades of GPQSM and GPCT. The relationship between GP grades and cerebrovascular risk factors and SVD imaging markers was assessed using univariable and multivariable linear regression analyses. Results: GPCT and GPQSM were significantly associated (p < 0.001) but were not identical. Higher GPCT and GPQSM grades showed smaller gray matter (p = 0.030 and p = 0.025, respectively) and white matter (p = 0.013 and p = 0.019, respectively) volumes, as well as larger GP volumes (p < 0.001 for both). Among SVD markers, white matter hyperintensity was significantly associated with GPCT (p = 0.006) and brain atrophy was significantly associated with GPQSM (p = 0.032) in at univariable analysis. In multivariable analysis, the normalized volume of the GP was independently positively associated with GPCT (p < 0.001) and GPQSM (p = 0.002), while the normalized volume of the GM was independently negatively associated with GPCT (p = 0.040) and GPQSM (p = 0.035). Conclusion: Focal mineral deposition in the GP on CT and QSM might be a potential imaging marker of cerebral vascular degeneration. Both were associated with increased GP volume.

  • In this work, an efficient transmit antenna selection approach for the quadrature spatial modulation (QSM) systems is proposed. The conventional Euclidean distance antenna selection (EDAS)-based schemes in QSM have too high computational complexity for practical use. The proposed antenna selection algorithm is based on approximation of the EDAS decision metric employed for QSM. The elimination of imaginary parts in the decision metric enables decoupling of the approximated decision metric, which enormously reduces the complexity. The proposed method is also evaluated via simulations in terms of symbol error rate (SER) performance and compared with the conventional EDAS methods in QSM systems.

  • Spatial modulation (SM) is the first proposed space modulation technique. By further utilizing the quadrature spatial dimension, quadrature spatial modulation (QSM) has been developed as an amendment to SM system to enhance the overall spectral efficiency. Both techniques are capable of entirely eliminating interchannel interference (ICI) at the receiver. In this paper, we propose a simple adaptive hybrid switching transmission scheme to obtain better system performance than SM and QSM systems under a fixed transmission date rate. The presented modulator selection criterion for switching between spatial modulator and quadrature spatial modulator is based on the larger received minimum distance of spatial modulator and quadrature spatial modulator to exploit the spatial channel freedom. It is shown through Monte Carlo simulations that the proposed hybrid SM and QSM switching system yields lower error performance than the conventional SM and QSM systems under the same fixed data rate and thus can provide signal to noise ratio (SNR) gain.

  • Purpose: The effect of global inhomogeneity on quantitative susceptibility mapping (QSM) was investigated. A technique referred to as Simultaneous Unwrapping Phase with Error Recovery from inhomogeneity (SUPER) is suggested as a preprocessing to QSM to remove global field inhomogeneity-induced phase by polynomial fitting. Materials and Methods: The effect of global inhomogeneity on QSM was investigated by numerical simulations. Three types of global inhomogeneity were added to the tissue susceptibility phase, and the root mean square error (RMSE) in the susceptibility map was evaluated. In-vivo QSM imaging with volunteers was carried out for 3.0T and 7.0T MRI systems to demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed method. Results: The SUPER technique removed harmonic and non-harmonic global phases. Previously only the harmonic phase was removed by the background phase removal method. The global phase contained a non-harmonic phase due to various experimental and physiological causes, which degraded a susceptibility map. The RMSE in the susceptibility map increased under the influence of global inhomogeneity; while the error was consistent, irrespective of the global inhomogeneity, if the inhomogeneity was corrected by the SUPER technique. In-vivo QSM imaging with volunteers at 3.0T and 7.0T MRI systems showed better definition in small vascular structures and reduced fluctuation and non-uniformity in the frontal lobes, where field inhomogeneity was more severe. Conclusion: Correcting global inhomogeneity using the SUPER technique is an effective way to obtain an accurate susceptibility map on QSM method. Since the susceptibility variations are small quantities in the brain tissue, correction of the inhomogeneity is an essential element for obtaining an accurate QSM.

  • Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the levels of brain iron deposition in Parkinson's disease (PD) patients using Quantitative Susceptibility Mapping (QSM) and to determine whether distinctions compared to the general population exist. Furthermore, we examined potential variations in iron deposition among different PD subtypes. Methods: Structural brain imaging was conducted on 75 participants at Gangdong Kyung Hee University Hospital between August 2017 and May 2020. PD patients were categorized into Tremor Dominant (TD) and Postural Instability and Gait Difficulty (PIGD) subtypes. Voxel-based morphometry and QSM were employed to compare voxel-wise magnetic susceptibility across the entire brain between Normal Controls (NC) and PD groups. Subsequently, QSM values were compared between TD and PIGD groups. Results: QSM values were compared among 46 PD patients and 23 normal controls, as well as between TD (n=22) and PIGD (n=24) groups. Voxel-based QSM analysis revealed no significant differences between groups. Similarly, ROI-based QSM analysis showed no significant distinctions. Conclusions: No significant variations were observed between the PD patient group, NC group, or PD subtypes. This study systematically compared QSM values across a broad range of brain regions potentially linked to PD pathology. Additionally, the subdivision of the PD group into TD and PIGD subtypes for QSM-based iron deposition analysis represents a meaningful and innovative approach.

  • This paper presents antenna selection schemes for recently proposed quadrature spatial modulation (QSM) systems. The antenna selection strategy is based on Euclidean distance optimized antenna selection (EDAS). The symbol error rate (SER) performance of these schemes is compared with that of the corresponding algorithm associated with spatial modulation (SM) systems. It is shown through simulations that QSM systems using EDAS offer significant improvement in terms of SER performance over SM systems with EDAS. Their SER performance gains are seen to be about 2 dB-4 dB in $E_s/N_0$ values.

  • In this paper, we propose a spatial modulation (SM) scheme referred to as complex quadrature SM (CQSM). In contrast to quadrature SM (QSM), CQSM transmits two complex signal constellation symbols on the real and quadrature spatial dimensions at each channel use, increasing the spectral efficiency. To achieve that, signal symbols transmitted at any given time instant are drawn from two different modulation sets. The first modulation set is any of the conventional QAM/PSK alphabets, while the second is a rotated version of it. The optimal rotation angle is obtained through simulations for several modulation schemes and analytically proven for the case of QPSK, where both results coincide. Simulation results showed that CQSM outperformed QSM and generalized SM by approximately 5 dB and 4.5 dB, respectively, for the same transmission rate. Its performance was similar to that of QSM; however, it achieved higher transmission rates. It was additionally shown numerically and analytically that CQSM outperformed QSM for a relatively large number of transmit antennas.

  • We consider transmit antenna selection combined with power allocation for quadrature spatial modulation (QSM) systems to improve the error rate performance. The Euclidean distance-based joint optimization criterion is presented for transmit antenna selection and power allocation in QSM. It requires an exhaustive search and thus high computational complexity. Thus its reduced-complexity algorithm is proposed with a strategy of decoupling, which is employed to successively find transmit antennas and power allocation factors. First, transmit antennas are selected without considering power allocation. After selecting transmit antennas, power allocation factors are determined. Simulation results demonstrate considerable performance gains with lower complexity for transmit antenna selected QSM systems with power allocation, which can be achieved with limited rate feedback.
