  • Purpose: This study was conducted to investigate the reproducibility of responses to the QSCC II. Methods: Subjects have been tested by QSCC II for 2 or 3 successive years in Kangnam Korean Hospital at Kyunghee University from January 2002 to December 2005. We analyzed constitutions of the same subjects of each year tested. Results: In the second year of QSCC II assessment, 333 of the total 584 subjects were classed as the same constitutions as in their first test. The reproducibility was thus 56.88%. After the third year of QSCC II, 45 of a total 81 subjects were in the same constitutions. The reproducibility was thus 55.56%. Conclusions: We have found that the reproducibility of QSCC II is about 56%, so there is a severe limitation to diagnosis of constitution by QSCC II. Therefore, we must analyze constitutions through multiple objective methods.

  • The Purpose of this study was to evaluate the reliability and the validation of four scales of Questionnaire for Sasang Constitution Classification (QSCC), newly constructed through statistical item analysis and to examine their diagnostic discrimination power. QSCC was administered to 105 inpatient at Kyung-Hee Oriental Medicine Hospital and local oriental clinics and 136 undergraduated students. 2 weeks later, QSCC was readministered to 220 same subjects. Data were collected during about 2 months from february to Apr. 20, 1992. For the purposes of this study, the collected data were analyzed by internal consistancy, test-retest reliability, ANOVA, Pearson correlation and discrimination analysis of spss pc+ v3.0 program. The results were as follows: 1. The reliability of four scales of QSCC was relatively favorable. The internal consistancy and test-retest reliability of Tae-Yaung-In(太陽人) scale were respectively Cronbach's ${\alpha}=0.9$ and r=0.89. Those of So-Yaung-In(少陽人) scale were respectively ${\alpha}=0.81$ and r=0.93. Those of Tae-Em-In(太陰人) scale were respectively ${\alpha}=0.72$ and r=0.74. Those of So-Em-In(少陰人) scale were respectively ${\alpha}=0.81$ and r=0.93. 2. The diagnostic discrimination abilities(Hit-ratio=56%)of QSCC were found to have more about 20% improvement than propotional chance criteria(37%). Especially, Hit-ratios for So-Yaung-In(63%) and Tae-Em-In(60%) were more high than that for So-Em-In(48%) 3. For male subjects, the construct validity of QSCC was founded to be relatively favorable. But that of QSCC for females was poor.

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to examine the psychological factors of Sasang constitutions which are classified by QSCC II(Questionnaire for Sasang Constitution Classification II) using major personality tests which are based on western psychological theory. Methods: 151 college students completed the MMPI-2, MBTI, NEO-PI-R, TCI-RS, and QSCC II. The data were analyzed by ANOVA and post hoc testing to find which personality scale significantly differentiated each Sasang constitution style. Results: MMPI-2, scale 2(D), 5(Mf), 7(Pt), 0(Si) and introversion scale(INTR) showed significant differences between Soeumin and Soyangin. Also, on the dimension of introversion-extraversion in MBTI, and neuroticism(N) and extraversion(E) in NEO-PI-R, there were differences between Soeumin and the other two constitutions(Soyangin and Taeeumin). Finally, in TCI-RS, there were differences between Soeumin and Soyangin on the scale of novelty seeking(NS) and reward dependence(RD), and with regards to the harm avoidance scale(HA), Soeumin received a higher score than any other constitutions. Conclusions: The analysis demonstrates that the classification of QSCC II is most consistent between Soeumin and Soyangin across 4 major personality tests.

  • 1. Objectives This is a statistical study on the Reliability and Validity of the Revised Questionnaire for the Sasang Constitution classification(QSCC II +). 2. Methods To analyze the reliability; we gathered the results of the QSCC II + of 266 people. Each person took the questionnaire three times, and the interval of the examinations were about one year. With the results, we used stratified analysis to check up the consistency rate of three examinations, and analyzed the tendency of agreement by crosstabs to get the kappa value. For the validity, we gathered the results of the QSCC II + of 587 people who were Taeumin, Soyangin, Soeumin. They took the questionnaire once, and SCM specialists strictly examined to diagnose their Sasang constitutions. We compare their results of the QSCC II + to the diagnostic result of their Sasang constitutions, and analyzed by crosstabs to get the rate of accuracy of the QSCC II +, and the kappa value for the measure of agreements. 3. Results and Conclusions The expected rate to get the same results was 54.5% in Soyangin, 68.1% in Taeumin, 65.7% in Soeumin, and kappa value was $0.311{\sim}0.414$, which means the reliability of the QSCC II + is analytically significant. The accuracy of the results of QSCC II +, compared to the diagnosis of the SCM specialists, was 58.4%, but increased up to 60.8%, and validity also became moderately good(K=0.412) by age limitation. Because in the 70's results of the QSCC II + isn't likely to agree to the diagnosis of the SCM specialists.

  • This study was performed to examine a clinical application of the QSCC II (Questionnaire for the Sasang Constitution Classification II) In this study, the subjects were 218 patients whose constitutions were differentiated at the Wonkwang Kwangju Oriental medical hospital. The results are as follows: 1. QSCC II were given to 218 patients after they were examined by the specialists in the Sasang constitutional medicine and received herbal formulas specific to their constitution. The constitutional analysis made by the specialists were then compared to the results of the questionnaire. The result showed only 51% agreement. 2. We made a frequency analysis of 121 questions and found that 85 questions had low statistical significance (P>0.2). 3. As a result, we have found that there is a limitation in differentiating the constitution by the questionnaire. Thus, in order to raise the statistical significance of the constitutional analysis, we hope that more suitable questionnaire will be developed for the future research.

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate and standardize the four scales of Questionnaire for the Sasang Constitution Classification II (QSCCII). QSCCII is newly prepared by statistical item analysis and is designed to examine its diagnostic discriminability. QSCCII is administered to 1366 random informants. From the survey, we could get the data for the standardization. The criteria of standardization are based on the data from 265 informants who are examined by professionals. Collectted data are analyzed by internal consistency, variation analysis(ANOVA), Duncan test and discrimination analysis of SPSS PC+ V4.0 program. The results are as follows reliability of four scales for QSCCII is relatively valid. The internal consistency of Tae-yang(太陽) (太陽) scale is Cronbach's a=0.5708. That of So-yang(少陽) scale is a=0.5708. That of Tae-eum(太陰) scale is a =0.5922. That of So-eum(少陰) scale is a=0.6319. 2. There is a significant difference between each group through variation analysis of four scales. 3. The process of standardization is based on the average value and standard deviation with respect to age and sex difference of each criteria 4. This study suggests a source of standardization of Sasang Constitution Classification by providing norms in which the differences of age, sex, and number of items are taken into deep consideration. QSCC Ⅱ, therefore, can be applied to every age(the 10's to the 60's) and sex groups. 5. The recalculation of the raw-score to standard value (T-score) shows that the diagnostic discriminability (Hit-ratio: 70.08%) of QSCC Ⅱ brings about 37% improvement than proportional chance criteria (33.33%). Especially, Hit-ratios of Tae-eum In(74.5%) and So-eum In(70.8%) are higher than that of So-yang In(60.0%). 6. QSCC has discriminability only to male informants. Compared with QSCC, however, QSCC II has relatively efficient discriminability both to male and female informants. 7. These results would be a demonstration of the fact that the QSCC II could be used as a tool for sasang constitution classification.
