  • Quantum-dot cellular automata (QCA) consists of nano-scale cells and demands very low power consumption so that it is one of the alternative technologies that can overcome the limits of scaling CMOS technologies. Typical BCD-EXCESS 3 code converters using QCA have not considered the scalability so that the architectures are not suitable for a large scale circuit design. Thus, we design a BCD-EXCESS 3 code converter with scalability using QCADesigner and verify the effectiveness by simulation. Our structure have reduced 32 gates and 7% of garbage space rate compare with typical URG BCD-EXCESS 3 code converter. Also, 1 clock is only needed for circuit expansion of our structure though typical QCA BCD-EXCESS 3 code converter demands 7 clocks.

  • Quantum cellular automata (QCA) are one of the alternative technologies that can overcome the limits of complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) scaling. It consists of nano-scale cells and demands very low power consumption. Various circuits on QCA have been researched until these days, and in the middle of the researches, exclusive-OR (XOR) gates are used as error detection and recover. Typical XOR logic gates have a lack of scalable, many clock zones and crossover designs so that they are difficult to implement. In order to overcome these disadvantages, this paper proposes XOR design using majority gate reduced clock zone. The proposed design is compared and analysed to previous designs and is verified the performance.

  • Quantum-dot Cellular Automata (QCA) is one of the most promising next generation nano-electronic devices which will inherit the throne of CMOS which is the domineering implementation technology of large scale low power digital systems. In late 1990s, the basic operations of the QCA cell were already demonstrated on a hardware implementation. Also, design tools and simulators were developed. Nevertheless, its design technology is not quite ready for ultra large scale designs. This paper proposes a new approach which enables the QCA designs to inherit the verification methodologies and tools of CMOS designs, as well. First, a set of disciplinary rules strictly restrict the cell arrangement not to deviate from the predefined structures but to guarantee the deterministic digital behaviors. After the gate and interconnect structures of the QCA design are identified, the signal integrity requirements including the input path balancing of majority gates, and the prevention of the noise amplification are checked. And then the digital logic is extracted and stored in the OpenAccess common engineering database which provides a connection to a large pool of CMOS design verification tools. Towards validating the proposed approach, we designed a 2-bit QCA adder. The digital logic is extracted, translated into the Verilog net list, and then simulated using a commercial software.

  • Liposomes and proteoliposomes, artificial membranes, can interact with many solutes, such as drugs, peptides and proteins. Immobilization of (proteo)liposomes as supramolecular aggregates on gold surfaces have potential applications in nanotechnology and biosensors. We demonstrate a quartz crystal analyzer (QCA) method to monitor the construction of multi layers of unilamellar liposomes based on avidin-biotin binding on gold surface using quartz crystal microbalance(QCM). Thus, QCA provides an on line and efficient method to detect the protein membranes construction and have applications to biosensing system.

  • Quantum-dot cellular automata (QCA) is one of the few alternative computing platforms that has the potential to be a promising technology because of higher speed, smaller size, and lower power consumption in comparison with CMOS technology. This letter proposes an optimized full comparator for implementation in QCA. The proposed design is compared with previous works in terms of complexity, area, and delay. In comparison with the best previous full comparator, our design has 64% and 85% improvement in cell count and area, respectively. Also, it is implemented with only one clock cycle. The obtained results show that our full comparator is more efficient in terms of cell count, complexity, area, and delay compared to the previous designs. Therefore, this structure can be simply used in designing QCA-based circuits.

  • CMOS used in digital circuit design technology has reached the limit of integration due to quantum tunneling. Quantum-dot cellular automata (QCA), which can replace this, has many advantages such as low power consumption and fast switching speed, so many digital circuits of CMOS have been proposed based on QCA. Among them, the multiplexer is a basic circuit used in various circuits such as D-flip-flops and resistors, and has been studied a lot. However, the existing multiplexer has a disadvantage that space efficiency is not good. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a new multilayered multiplexer using cell interaction and D-latch using it. The multiplexer and D-latch proposed in this paper have improved area, cell count, and delay time, and have excellent connectivity and scalability when designing large circuits. All proposed structures are simulated using QCADesigner to verify operation.

  • Quantum-dot cellular automata(QCA) is a computing model designed to be similar to cellular automata, and an alternative technology for next generation using high performance and low power consumption. QCA is undergoing various studies with recent experimental results, and it is one of the paradigms of transistors that can solve device density and interconnection problems as nano-unit materials. An XOR gate is a gate that operates so that the result is true when either one of the logic is true. The proposed XOR gate consists of five layers. The first layer consists of OR gates, the third and fifth layers consist of AND gates, and the second and fourth layers are designed as passages in the middle. The half adder consists of an XOR gate and an AND gate. The proposed half adder is designed by adding two cells to the proposed XOR gate. The proposed half adder consists of fewer cells, total area, and clock than the conventional half adder.

  • Quantum Cellular Automata(QCA) is one of the proposed techniques as an alternative solution to the fundamental limitations of CMOS. QCA has recently been extensively studied along with experimental results, and is attracting attention as a nano-scale size and low power consumption. Although the XOR gates proposed in the previous paper can be designed using the minimum area and the number of cells, there is a disadvantage that the number of added cells is increased due to the stability and the accuracy of the result. In this paper, we propose a gate that supplement for the drawbacks of existing XOR gates. The XOR gate of this paper reduces the number of cells by arranging AND gate and OR gate with square structure and propose a half-adder by adding two cells that serve as simple inverters using the proposed XOR gate. Also This paper use QCADesginer for input and result accuracy. Therefore, the proposed half-adder is composed of fewer cells and total area compared to the conventional half-adder, which is effective when used in a large circuit or when a half - adder is needed in a small area.

  • Quantum-dot cellular automata(QCA) is an alternative technology for implementing various computation, high performance, and low power consumption digital circuits at nano scale. In this paper, we propose a new universal gate in QCA. By using the universal gate, we propose a novel XOR gate which is reduced time/hardware complexity. The universal gate can be used to construct all other basic logic gates. Meanwhile, the proposed universal gate is designed by basic cells and a rotated cell. The rotated cell of the proposed universal gate is located at the central of 3-input majority gate structure. In this paper, we propose an XOR gate using three universal gates, although more than five 3-input majority gates are used to design an XOR gate using the 3-input majority gate. The proposed XOR gate is superior to the conventional XOR gate in terms of the total area and the consumed clock because the number of gates are reduced.

  • The crystallization of NaF driven by adding ethanol was monitored using quartz crystal analyzer (QCA). Adding ethanol to NaF solution reduced the solubility of NaF and consequently led to nucleation and growth of NaF crystals. To investigate the crystallization behavior of NaF, a gold electrode of QCA was modified by anchoring with 2-mercaptoethylamine hydrochloride based on a self-assembly method. Frequency of QCA varied with the amount of NaF adsorbed on the self-assembled layer of 2-mercaptoethylamine hydrochloride, and thereby the process of NaF crystallization could be analyzed indirectly by monitoring the frequency change of QCA. To change the extent of supersaruration of NaF, the amount of ethanol added to the solution was varied from 1 to 5 ml. Then, the effect of the extent of the supersaturation on the crystallization was examined by analyzing the frequency changes of QCA coated with 2-mercaptoethylamine hydrochloride. It was shown that the QCA technique could be well applied for the characterization and analysis of the crystallization behavior of NaF.
