  • Purpose: This study conducted an empirical study to estimate the loss aversion rate of individual investors in the Seoul condominium market. Research design, data and methodology: A survey was conducted with Seoul residents ranging from 30's to 60's with various backgrounds. Descriptive statistical analysis and a paired sample t-test were conducted using SPSS 27.0 statistical package. Results: The results of the t-test showed that Seoul residents are indeed more sensitive to loss than gains, as pointed out in various researches related to behavioral economics. Also, the loss aversion rate associated with KRW 50 million risk was found to be 2.14. Finally, the same question was asked with KRW 100 million risk, doubled associated risk of previous question, using the same scenario, and it's been verified that the loss aversion rate increases as the associated risk or stake increases. The loss aversion rate with double risk is 2.26 which is about 5% higher than the one with KRW 50 million risk. Conclusions: This study can help many groups of people in society who need to establish rewards and punishment policies within any organization. In particular, incorporating human cognitive biases, such as loss aversion can help the South Korean government shape more effective reward and punishment policies when building rewards and punishments using taxes.

  • Voters' negative evaluations of government performance lower their trust in government, which functions as the reward and punishment for the government. Trust in government thus serves to promote political accountability of the representative government. However, voters build their confidence toward the party government where the ruling party is responsible for the performance. Considering this partisan nature, we empirically examine that the influence of voters' performance evaluations on governmental trust is conditional on their party identifications. While higher perceptions of political/social conflict and increasing negative evaluations of government policies and economic performance are associated with the lower level of confidence in government, the relationship is contrasted between different party identifiers. For supporters of the ruling party in 2020, the negative evaluations of government performance are not likely to reduce trust in government a lot. On the contrary, those who identify with the main opposition party show the most prominent effect of negative evaluations on their distrust in government. This study demonstrates that trust in government is affected by voters' partisan preferences, not entirely by evaluations of government performance. Such a distortion of the reward and sanction function of governmental trust might lead to the weakening of the accountability mechanism in representative democracy.

  • In this paper, we proposed an image retrieval system with a simple and effective relevance feedback, called RAP(Reward and Punishment) algorithm. First, color and texture features were extracted from the images. Next, the extracted feature values were used for image retrieval in various forms. We applied the relevance feedback to the initial retrieved images from the image retrieval system, and compared its result with that of the conventional system. In the experiment using the test image database of 16 class 512 images, the proposed system showed the better retrieval performance of about 10∼l7 % than that of the conventional INRIA system in each relevance feedback step.

Methods: One hundred twenty healthy mothers (above 20 ys) who has a child (7-11 ys) participated after informed consent. The temperament of the children was analyzed by the Junior Temperament and Character Inventory 7-11 (JTCI 7-11) by their mothers. The temperament of the mothers was analyzed by the Temperament and Character Inventory-Revised Short (TCI-RS) and the parenting attitude of the mothers was analyzed by the Parenting Attitude Test (PAT). The relations between mother and child temperament and parenting attitude were assessed using the Pearson correlation coefficient. Results: There were some significant correlations between maternal temperaments and child's temperaments and maternal parenting attitude. Maternal temperament and parenting attitude: Novelty seeking (NS) of mother had low positive correlations with punishment, high expectation and inconsistency. Harm avoidance (HA) had low positive correlations with high involvement and high expectation, and had weak negative correlations with supportive expression and rational explanation. Reward dependence (RD) had low positive correlation with rational explanation. Persistence (P) had low positive correlations with supportive expression, rational explanation and superintendence, and weak negative correlation with high expectation. Child's temperament and parenting attitude: NS of child had low positive correlations with achievement press, high involvement, punishment, high expectation and inconsistency. Low positive correlations were found in many sets such as HA and high expectation, RD and supportive expression and rational explanation, P and supportive expression and rational explanation. • The purpose of this study was to analyze the environment of poverty children as reported by the children on a questionnaire. The conception of the environment was divided into the physical environment and the sociopsychological environment. The dimensions of the physical environment included household, cultural, and play conditions. The sociopsychological environment included structural (family values, family relationships, and the reinforcement system) and process variables(affect, care, and communication). For the purpose of this survey was administered to 122 children living in a poverty area and 102 children living in a middle-high income area. Statistics used for data analysis were frequency, distribution, percentile, mean and one-way ANOVA. Major findings showed that (1) The physical environment as reported by the poverty children was meager compared with that of children in the middle-high income area: the households were more overcrowded, and cultural conditions, play materials, and space was more limited. (2) The Structural conditions of the sociopsychological environment as perceived by poverty children were more material and physical than that of children in the middle-high income area: family values were oriented more toward materialism: family relationships were more negative and distant: and the reinforcement system was based more on material reward and physical punishment. (3) Process variables were perceived by poverty children as more laissez-faire and rigid; the parents neglected their children and communicated unilaterally more than the middle-high income parents. (4) Poverty children's perception of the causes of poverty and wealth were perceived as personal and social factors.

  • This study conducted a comparative analysis on ordinances on landscape composition by local governments, which are a part of the policy to activate landscape composition, by examining the cases of Korea and Japan. For the purpose of specialized landscape compositions according to the own characteristics of Korean local governments, this study suggests factors to consider on the enactment of ordinance on landscape composition as follows. First, in order to compose landscape with an unique figure of the local government, it is required to collect and analyze informations about the local landscape, to provide consistent programs of education and publicity related to the landscape composition and to encourage the involvement of local citizens and reward it. Second, the construction of the ordinance needs to build a plan of landscape composition for each district focused on the landscape composition, to introduce a system which enables self-designation of an ordinance, to establish a detailed guidance, to assign the duty to keep the guidance and regulate punishment in case of a violation of the guidance. It could be done by completing the common or basic elements on the construction of the ordinance on landscape composition.

  • The aim of this study was to find out the possibilities of humanistic education through text analysis of the picture books of Korean fairy tales dealing with poverty and to discuss the educational implications. For this, the two researchers drew the literal roles of poverty and property in the common narrative structure of seven subject books and discussed the humanistic educational implications. The results are as follows. Firstly, the poverty of a main character was related to good personalities rather than negative personalities such as indolent disposition and formed affirmative values. Secondly, divine existence or animal helpers offered property to the good man in a unrealistic manner so that it emphasized the meaning of reward on their good nature. Thirdly, the bad character of wicked men following the good men was focussed on and their greed for property was the evidence of their wickedness. Most of them were punished because of the wicked motive so that it apparently highlighted the lesson of the good triumphing over the evil by the binary opposition structure. Fourthly, all the fairy tales made the characters treated based on the each personality: punishment or reward. However, the reward was usually property so that the property itself was depicted as a kind of blessings. Based on those findings, some humanistic educational implications were discussed.
