  • The advantages of the Magnetic Fluid Linear Pump(MFLP) is that this device could Pump the non-conductive. non-magnetic liquid such as Insulin or blood because of the segregation structure of the magnetic fluid and pumping liquid. In this device. the sequential currents are needed to Produce pumping forces so that Pumping Forces and Pumping speed mainly depend on the current Patterns. The excessive forces at Pumping moment could cause the medical shock, and weak forces at intermediate moment could cause the back flow or the pumping liquid. So the ripples of the pumping forces need to be reduced for the medical application. In this research, the driving characteristics in the MFLP by operating current is analysed. The change of magnetic fluid surface according to the driving currents could be obtained be magneto-hydrodynamic analysis so that Pumping fortes could be computed by integration of the surface moving to the pumping direction at each moment. The actual MFLP with 13mm diameter was made and tested for experiments. The effects of driving current and frequency on the pumping forces and pumping speed were analyzed and compared with experimental measurements.

  • In the magnetic fluid linear pump, the pumping forces and pumping speed mainly depend on the current patterns. In this research, a new design to reduce the discontinuities of the pumping forces of the MFLP was studied. Continuous pumping of the newly designed MFLP by using AC current increases pumping efficiency and reduces the pumping force. Forming shapes of the magnetic fluid at the intermediate state were computed and compared to measurement. Since the back flow of the fluid is reduced remarkably, 4 yoke's AC driving is more efficient than 7 yoke's DC driving. The size, weight and pumping discontinuity are also reduced.

  • Fluid dynamics driven by pumping without valves (valveless pumping) shows interesting physics. Especially, the driving function to generate valveless pump mechanism is one of important factors. We consider a closed system of valveless pump which consists of flexible tube part and stiffer part. Fluid and structure (elastic tube) interaction motions are generated by the periodic compress-and-release actions on an asymmetric location of the elastic loop of tubing. In this work, we demonstrate how important the driving forcing function affects a net flow in the valveless circulatory system and investigate which parameter set of the system gives a more efficient net flow around the loop.

  • In order to explain the operating characteristics of LTMFP in a wide range of driving frequency, an analytical equation that takes into account the detailed behavior of the normal spot is necessary. In this paper, based on the phenomenon of magnetic diffusion of the superconductor we modified the theoretical equations for pumping action in LTMFP. The modified equations explained well the pumping actions under the different load magnets. These results are important to explain the pumping tendency of the LTMFP according to driving frequency.

  • Pneumatic total artificial heart[TAH] has been clinically applied for the purpose of permanent or temporary use followed by cardiac transplantation in the patients with end stage heart diseases. In spite of the good durability of the pneumatic TAH, thrombus formation, bleeding and infection resulted in death. The Tomasu heart, which is a type of pneumatic TAH, was used in this study. This model is a modified Jarvik heart and consists of atrial cuffs, outflow vascular grafts and thin-layer seamless diaphragm type of ventricles. Cardiac outputs of the left artificial heart were measured by Donovan`s mock circulation under variable conditions of driving parameters, and an experimental artificial heart implantation was performed in 4 calves to observe the changes of hemodynamic parameters in early postoperative period and hematologic and bio-chemical changes in a long-term survival case. In the mock circulation test, cardiac output of the heart was increased with the increase of the left atrial pressure and left driving pressure. Maximum cardiac output was obtained at the heart rate of 120 to 130/min and percent systole of 40 to 45Zo under the condition of a constant left driving pressure of 180mmHg and left atrial pressure of 10mmHg. During the first 24 hours of TAH pumping, driving pressure ranged from 178$\pm$5mmHg to 187$\pm$8mmHg for the left heart and from 58$\pm$6mmHg to 78$\pm$28mmHg for the right heart. The Mean arterial pressure significantly increased between 2 and 8 hours after the start of pumping. The survival time ranged from 27 hours to 46 days. The causes of death were respiratory failure in 2 cases, mechanical valve failure in one, and left ventricular outflow obstruction due to thrombus in a 46-day survival case. This study demonstrated that Tomasu artificial heart operated effectively during the first 24 hours of artificial heart pumping, but thrombus formation around the valve holding area was the main problem in long-term survival case.

  • This paper presents an efficient substrate-bias generator(SBG)for low-power, high-density DRAM's The proposed SBG can supply stable voltage with switching the supply voltage of driving circuit, and it can substitude the small capacitance for the large capacitance. The charge pumping circuit of the SBG suffere no VT loss and is to be applicable to low-voltage DRAM's. Also it can reduce the power consumption to make VBB because of it's high pumping efficiency. Using biasing voltage with positive temperature coefficient, VBB level detecting circuit can detect constant value of VBB against temperature variation. VBB level during VBB maintaining period varies 0.19% and the power dissipation during this period is 0.16mw. Charge pumping circuit can make VBB level up to -1.47V using VCC-1.5V, and do charge pumping operation one and half faster than the conventional ones. The temperature dependency of the VBB level detecting circuit is 0.34%. Therefore the proposed SBG is expected to supply a stable VBB with less power consumption when it is used in low power DRAM's.

  • A simulation study was carried to analyze the vehicle fuel consumption on component basis. Experiments was also carried out to identify the simulation results, under FTP-75 Hot Phase driving conditions. and arbitrary driving conditions. A good quantitative agreement was obtained. Based on the simulation, fuel energy was used in pumping loss(3.7%), electric power generation(0.7%), engine friction(12.7%), engine inertia(0.7%), torque converter loss(4.6%), drivetrain friction(0.6%), road-load(9.2%), and vehicle inertia(13.4%) under FTP-75 Hot Phase driving conditions. Using simulation program, the effects of capacity factor and idle speed on fuel consumption were estimated. A increment of capacity factor of torque converter resulted in fuel consumption improvement under FTP-75 Hot Phase driving conditions. Effect of a decrement of idle speed on fuel consumption was negligible under the identical driving conditions.

  • A cross-coupled charge pump with internal pumping capacitor, witch is advantages from a point of minimizing TFT-LCD driver IC module, is newly proposed in this paper. By using a NMOS and a PMOS diode connected to boosting node from VIN node, the pumping node is precharged to the same value each pumping node at start pumping operation. Since the lust-stage charge pump is designed differently from the other stage pumps, a back current of pumped charge from charge pumping node to input stage is prevented. As a pumping clock driver is located the font side of pumping capacitor, the driving capacity is improved by reducing a voltage drop of the pumping clock line from parasitic resistor. Finally, a layout area is decreased more compared with conventional cross-coupled charge pump by using a stack-MIM capacitors. A proposed charge pump for TFT-LCD driver IC is designed with $0.13{\mu}m$ triple-well DDI process, fabricated, and tested.

  • In this paper, novel CMOS charge pump having NMOS and PMOS transfer switches and a bulk-pumping circuit has been proposed. The NMOS and PMOS transfer switches allow the charge pump to improve the current-driving capability at the output. The bulk-pumping circuit effectively solves the bulk forward problem of the charge pump. To verify the effectiveness, the proposed charge pump was designed using a 80-nm CMOS process. The comparison results indicate that the proposed charge pump enhances the current-driving capability by more than 47% with pumping speed improved by 9%, as compared to conventional charge pumps having either NMOS or PMOS transfer switch. They also indicate that the charge pump reduces the worst-case forward bias of p-type bulk by more than 24%, effectively solving the forward current problem.
