Method for Designing Adaptive UI Based on User's Context in the Environment Including Mobile Device and Public Display Device (모바일 장치와 공용 디스플레이 장치를 포함하는 환경에서 사용자의 특성에 기반한 Adaptive UI 설계 방안)

  • The one of the most meaningful change in the recent ubiquitous environment is the omnipresence of public digital display device for providing ubiquitous information. It is the important issue to provide publicity as well as adaptive information to each user in the field of the public digital display device. This research proposes the idea ensuring fast response speed by the selection of user preference function. The preference function is selected by statistics using Zipf distribution in the system comprising mobile device and digital display device based on NFC (Near Field Communication). The idea is proved by CPM-GOMS model and the improvement of user response can be achieved.

A Study on Public Library Users' Perceptions and Behavior Changes after Using the Theme Display Service (공공도서관의 테마전시 이용에 따른 이용자의 도서관 인식 및 이용행태 변화 연구)

  • We investigated the user behavior of the theme display provided by the public libraries as an active information service. Specifically, we wanted to study the library patrons' library use behavior and perception. There were in-depth interviews with seven librarians and eight patrons to develop a set of research questions and the questionnaire. We conducted the survey with 232 patrons then the statistical analysis. The analysis result revealed that the theme display helped the patrons' wider use of the library resources and also positively affected patrons' perception on the librarians as well as the evaluation of the library services. Based on the findings, we recommended the active incorporation of the theme display within the limitation of the libraries' facility and patrons' interests.

Interactive lens through smartphones for supporting level-of-detailed views in a public display

  • In this paper, we propose a new approach to providing interactive and collaborative lens among multi-users for supporting level-of-detailed views using smartphones in a public display. In order to provide smartphone-based lens capability, the locations of smartphones are effectively detected and tracked using Kinect, which provides RGB data and depth data (RGB-D). In particular, human skeleton information is extracted from the Kinect 3D depth data to calculate the smartphone location more efficiently and correctly with respect to the public display and to support head tracking for easy target selection and adaptive view generation. The suggested interactive and collaborative lens using smartphones not only can explore local spaces of the shared display but also can provide various kinds of activities such as LOD viewing and collaborative interaction. Implementation results are given to show the advantage and effectiveness of the proposed approach.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the information display at Yong In University through the use of field observations and surveys to improve the facility that adheres to the user's comfort and accessibility. The study has found that the arrangement of importance of subjects that are more relevant to the intended audience and the placement of the information kiosk at places where people would stay for longer durations have higher chances of absorbing the information provided in the kiosk. Though the study has been investigated in a limited setting of Yong In University, the broader implications of this study can be extend to public spaces that also provide information kiosks.

  • Korea's traffic congestion costs including other social costs due to accidents, environmental pollution and increased demand is increasing every year. In this regard, direction of government policy was geared toward suppression of vehicle demand and activation of public transportation, which is determined to be the best solution with limited supply of infrastructure such as road facilities. This study aims to implement public transport bus-only Head-Up Display (hereafter called HUD) technology which displays public transport information required for a bus driver on the front glass of a bus. The public transport bus-only HUD not only prevents gaze dispersion of bus drivers but also helps to reduce the heavy workload of bus drivers by providing information required for driving. Ultimately, the final research purpose is a reduction of bus traffic accidents by 50% caused by negligence in keeping eyes forward or sideways.

  • In this paper, we propose a real-time bus arrival notification system using deep learning to guarantee movement rights for the visually impaired. In modern society, by using location information of public transportation, users can quickly obtain information about public transportation and use public transportation easily. However, since the existing public transportation information system is a visual system, the visually impaired cannot use it. In Korea, various laws have been amended since the 'Act on the Promotion of Transportation for the Vulnerable' was enacted in June 2012 as the Act on the Movement Rights of the Blind, but the visually impaired are experiencing inconvenience in using public transportation. In particular, from the standpoint of the visually impaired, it is impossible to determine whether the bus is coming soon, is coming now, or has already arrived with the current system. In this paper, we use deep learning technology to learn bus numbers and identify upcoming bus numbers. Finally, we propose a method to notify the visually impaired by voice that the bus is coming by using TTS technology.

Realtime Digital Information Display System based on Web Server (웹 서버 연동의 실시간 디지털 정보 디스플레이 시스템)

  • In this paper, we designed and implemented realtime DID(digital information display) system based on web server that displayed multimedia contents. The contents are weather, news information on the internet web sites and public relations or advertisements data on local systems. The DID system has client/server architecture that the server send to client that schedule informations and multimedia contents received form web server and the client displayed the contents though scheduled information. Therefore the systems overcome network fault for the mean time. Also, the system has realtime services of web page filtering function that extract the partial information of specific web pages.
