The Mediating Effect of Protean Career Attitude on the Relationship Between Coaching Leadership and Career Satisfaction (코칭리더십과 경력만족 간의 관계에서 프로티언 경력태도의 매개효과)

  • The purpose of this study is as follows: First, this study investigates the effect of the supervisor's coaching leadership on the employee's protean career attitude. Second, we examine the effect of a protean career attitude on career satisfaction. Finally, we examine the mediating effect of protean career attitude on the relationship between supervisor's coaching leadership and career satisfaction. As a result of analyzing the data of 329 employees from pharmaceutical companies, the positive influence of coaching leadership on the protean career attitude was significant. The positive effect of the protean career attitude on career satisfaction was significant. The mediating effect of the protean career attitude on the relationship between coaching leadership and career satisfaction was significant. The findings of this study provide an understanding regarding the concept of career development, which has recently changed from an organization-centered to an individual-centered perspective. Also, this study has theoretical and practical implications for the field of human resource development in that it suggests the type of leadership as an antecedent of protean career attitudes.

Influence of Protean Career Attitude and Boundaryless Career Attitude on Job Satisfaction and Career Commitment in Daycare Teachers (보육교사의 프로틴 경력태도와 무경계 경력태도가 직무만족과 경력몰입에 미치는 영향)

  • Objective: The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of protean career attitudes and boundaryless career attitudes on job satisfaction and career commitment in daycare teachers. The subjects in this study were 269 inservice daycare teachers who worked in childcare centers in the metropolitan cities of Busan and Daegu. Methods: As for data collection, a survey was conducted for approximately four weeks from January 3 through 31, 2020, and correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis were calculated to analyze the collected data in order to address the research questions of the study. Results: The findings of the study were as follows: First, the protean career attitudes and boundaryless career attitudes of the daycare teachers had a positive correlation with their job satisfaction and career commitment. Second, whether the protean career attitudes and boundaryless career attitudes of the daycare teachers affected job satisfaction and career commitment was analyzed. The self-directedness and value orientation of the protean career attitudes of the daycare teachers and their boundaryless career attitudes exercised an influence on job satisfaction and career commitment. Conclusion/Implications: The findings of the study suggest that the protean career attitudes and boundaryless career attitudes of daycare teachers are crucial factors that have an impact on job satisfaction and career commitment.

  • Purpose - The present study bridges a significant gap in the literature by investigating the complex relationship between job crafting and protean career attitudes. It has been demonstrated that job crafting, which entails the proactive redesign of work roles, responsibilities, and relationships, empowers employees, and elevates. Research design, data, and methodology - This study employed a tailored search approach with specific terms linked to job crafting and protean career attitudes to ensure a thorough and focused analysis. The keywords include "Job crafting," "protean career attitudes," "career development," and related terms. This strategy uses an organized method to identify, screen, and choose appropriate studies. Result: This study synthesizes prior studies and identifies four critical links between the development of jobs and protean career attitudes. To begin with, task crafting, which entails job requirements and scope modifications, leads to protean career attitudes as employees match their roles to their skills and passions. Second, rational crafting, which is adjusting interactions with coworkers and superiors encourages flexible career attitudes. Conclusion - This study insists that organizations must consider the essential practical ramifications. Employers may improve employee growth, engagement, and talent retention by encouraging job customization, recognizing protean workers, cultivating a protean culture, investing in ongoing learning.

Relationship between Career Success Perception and Protean Career Management Behavior in Clinical Dental Hygienists

  • Background: Career success is the psychological achievement associated with an individual's work. Protean career management behavior is the behavior of managing individual careers in order to achieve individual career goals. The purpose of this study was to clarify the career success of dental hygienists as perceived by clinical dental hygienists and to compare the relationship between career success and protean career management behavior. Methods: Nationwide convenience samples of clinical dental hygienists were obtained; 354 people were surveyed online, and the data of 350 people were finally analyzed. The perception of career success of dental hygienists was assessed using a multiple response method. T-test, ANOVA, and χ2 tests were performed to investigate the differences and relationships between protean career management behavior and career success according to the general characteristics. Results: Career success was recognized by clinical dental hygienists as "income", "work proficiency", "patient consultation", "self-satisfaction", and "recognition by superiors" in order. There were significant differences in protean career management behavior according to general characteristics (p<0.05). Higher career management behavior was common in those higher in age, in married participants, in those with higher educational background, and in those with a higher career, better position, and more job change experience (p<0.05). Among the variables of career success perceived by clinical dental hygienists, "work proficiency" had a significant effect on "career management behavior" (p<0.05). "Work proficiency" and "recognition by superiors" were significant in "protean technological development behavior," and they also influenced actual behavior (p<0.05). Conclusion: The relationship between dental hygienists' career success and protean career management behavior was clarified. Dental hygienists performed career management behaviors to develop work ability and skills. In addition, the relationship between career management behavior and long-term employment was confirmed.

A Study on the Impact of Career Maturity on the Protean Career Attitude and the Subjective Career Success of College Students (대학생의 진로성숙도가 프로티언 경력태도와 주관적 경력성공에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was conducted in order to raise a question regarding limitations of career guidance as career guidance programs for university students are limited to career planning and preparation and fail to deal with career management after being employed. Accordingly, it investigated the effects of career maturity, which is mainly studied among university students, on protean career attitude and effects of protean career attitude on subjective career success. To that end, this study built a research model based on the effects of career maturity and protean career attitude on subjective career success of university students and analyzed data collected from 273 university students based on the research model. The result showed that career maturity of university students had positive effects on their protean career attitude. Especially, in career maturity, planning and independence had significant effects on protean career attitude. However, in career maturity attitude, attitude toward work had negative effects. Also, protean career attitude of university students had significant effects on subjective career success. This study aimed to explain the relationship between career of university students and relevant behaviors and perception by clarifying the structural relationship among planning, independence, attitude toward work, protean career attitude, and subjective career success. Based on the results of this study, it was suggested that career management theory should be newly introduced into career guidance program of university students.

  • Many empirical studies are conducted in regards to protean career or boundaryless career. The concept and the notion of protean career and boundaryless career has extended so far. Yet, the gap in the literature exists. Previous literature focused on the relationship among protean career, boundaryless career, and subjective career success, but examined little about the influence of protean career and boundaryless career on positive career attitude or future learning readiness. Therefore, this study explores the moderating effect of supporting policy of career development among protean career orientation, boundaryless career, positive career attitude, and future learning readiness. There was moderating effect of supporting policy of career development among the relationships of protean career orientation and future learning readiness; the relationships of boundaryless career and future learning readiness. The moderating effect of supporting policy of career development implies that the intention of career development in self-directed way and learning are related. In addition, The role of HRD/HRM department which takes initiatives in career development can affect the learning readiness for future among workers.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the mediating effects of Informal Learning Activity on the relationship between Cultural Contents Industry Workers' Protean Career Attitude and Career Commitment. The results of this study were as follows: First, Protean career attitude of cultural contents industry workers had positive effect on career commitment. Second, Informal learning activity of cultural contents industry workers had partial mediating effect on the relationship between protean career attitude and career commitment. Based upon these results, several suggestions were suggested to promote cultural contents industry workers' protean career attitude, career commitment, and informal learning activity.

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the meditating effect of self leadership on the relationship between protean career attitude and subjective career success of lifelong learning educators. Based upon the results, several theoretical and practical suggestions were made to enhance self leadership, protean career attitude and subjective career success of lifelong learning educators. A survey questionnaire for this study was composed of four parts, such as the measurement tool of Protean Career Attitude(Briscoe, Hall & Demuth, 2006), Self Leadership Scale(Houghton & Neck, 2002), Subjective Career Success(Career satisfaction Scale: Greenhaus, Parasuraman & Wormley, 1990; Job Satisfaction Scale: Mobley, Jarret, Marsh & Lim, 1994; Employability Inventory: Johnson, 2001) and demographics. The subjects in this study were lifelong learning educators in Incheon. The survey questionnaires from 450 respondents were gathered, and the data from 426 respondents were used for analysis. The results of this study were as follows: First, protean career attitude of the lifelong learning educators had direct effect on subjective career success positively. Second, protean career attitude of the lifelong learning educators had indirect effect on the subjective career success with the partial mediating effect of self-leadership. Finally, based upon the above results, some implications and limitations of this study were discussed.

The Moderated Mediating Effect of Organization Cultural unbalance on the relationship among the Protean Career Orientation, Continuous Learning Activity and Subjective Career Success (프로티언경력지향성, 지속학습활동, 주관적 경력성공의 관계에서 조직문화 불균형성의 조절된 매개효과)

  • This study was conducted to confirm whether organization culture unbalance plays a role as a moderating variable on the mediation process that protean career orientation influences subjective career success through continuous learning activity. To this end, a survey was carried out on 276 office workers with more than 5 years of work experience in large companies, and the data were analyzed using SPSS 25 and Process Macro v3.5. The results showed that continuous learning activity mediates the relationship of protean career orientation affecting subjective career success, but moderating effect of organizational culture unbalance and the moderated mediation effect were not statistically significant. However, statistical significance was found on the moderating effect of organizational culture unbalance on the mediation process, that 'self-direction', protean career orientation's sub-factor, affects subjective career success and its' sub-factor 'employability', and 'career satisfaction' through continuous learning activity. The significance and limitations of our findings are also discussed.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the mediating effect of job commitment and the moderating effect of job burnout on the relationship between the protean career orientation and subjective career success of hair designers. For this purpose, a survey was conducted on 163 employees working at a representative A brand hair salon in Korea, and statistical analysis was conducted using SPSS 21, and SPSS Process Macro v. 3.3. The results of this study are as follows: First, Protean career orientation affects job commitment to focus on oneself in all aspects related to their job, and as a result, it has a mediating effect on subjective career success that satisfies their career. Second, Through the interaction between protean career orientation and job burnout, the moderating effect on job commitment was confirmed. The significance of this study is to suggest a career success plan for hair salon workers with relatively high turnover rate in the service field by dealing with the understanding of the hair salon organizational culture and the lack of hair designer protean career orientation in terms of the mediating role of job commitment and job burnout in career success.
