Pre-service Early Childhood Teachers' Improvement of Perception on Teaching Professionalism through Early Childhood Teaching Practice Experience (교육실습을 통한 예비 유아교사들의 <수업전문성>에 대한 인식 및 변화 탐색 연구)

  • Objective: The objective of this study was to explore the perception and its improvement of pre-service teachers regarding teaching professionalism. The subjects of this study were 41 university students who experiencing early childhood teaching practice and 41 their cooperating teachers. Methods: In order to examine perception and its improvement on teaching professionalism, teaching professionalism scale for pre-service early childhood teachers (TPSECT) that was 33 items was administrated. Data were analysed paired t-test and contents analysis. Results: First, early childhood teaching practice experience affected positive effects on the four subordinate areas of teaching professionalism: , , , and improved perception of teaching professionalism. Second, student teachers were developing teaching professionalism, in a course of early childhood teaching practice which consisted of performing teaching real children in the field, evaluating and feedback of cooperating teacher, self-reflection and re-instruction. Conclusion/Implications: For improving pre-service teachers' professionalism, except a teaching practice subject, it is necessary to open various subjects that provide practical experiences, such as, teaching real children, observing actual class. This suggests that more experiential and practical in-service education program will be demanded.

Factor Analysis of Core Values of Professionalism in Physical Therapy (물리치료 전문직관의 핵심가치에 대한 요인분석)

  • The purpose of this study was to identify construct validity and reliability of instrument for professionalism in physical therapy using developed by American Physical Therapy Association for 470 physical therapists. The corrected data was analysed using confirmatory factor analysis and internal consistency. Model of professionalism was adequate (p<.05) and consisted of 7 factors. Standardized coefficients of construct factor were followed by the integrity (${\beta}$=.93), professional duty (${\beta}$=.92), and compassion/caring (${\beta}$=.86). There were significant difference in professionalism by career(p<.05) but not significant difference by sex(p>.05). Also, the internal consistency for sub-factor of professionalism demonstrated adequate reliability of the measure (Cronbach ${\alpha}$=.80~.96). Because instrument for professionalism in physical therapy have a validity and reliability, it is useful for measuring professionalism in physical therapists.

Factors Influencing Professionalism in Male and Female Student Nurses (간호대학생의 성별에 따른 간호전문직관의 차이와 영향 요인)

  • Purpose: Nursing is regarded as a female-dominated profession. However, the number of Korean males entering the field of nursing is increasing. This study examines which of the following factors influence professionalism in male and female student nurses: area of nursing, gender identity, gender stereotypes, satisfaction with the field, emotional intelligence, and interpersonal relationships. Method: In total, 133 male and 293 female student nurses were selected from four Korean provinces between July 2013 and February 2014 to participate in this study. The data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, t-tests, ${\chi}^2$-tests of independence, and multiple regression analyses using SPSS/Win 20 software. Results: In males, 47.4% of variance in nursing professionalism was accounted for by grades, interpersonal relationships, gender stereotypes, and satisfaction with the field. In females, 41.9% of variance in nursing professionalism was accounted for by satisfaction with the field, interpersonal relationships, area of nursing, age, emotional intelligence and grades. Common factors that influenced both genders included satisfaction with the field, interpersonal relationships and grades. Conclusion: Although males and females revealed no significant differences in overall mean scores of nursing professionalism, several factors influencing nursing professionalism did differ by gender. Therefore, gender-specific nursing educational and training programs may be necessary to promote professionalism among student nurses.

The Influence of Nursing Image, Job Value on Nursing Professionalism of First Year Nursing Students (간호학과 신입생의 간호사이미지, 직업가치관이 간호전문직관에 미치는 영향)

  • This study examined the influence of nurse image, job value on the nursing professionalism of first year nursing students. Data were collected from May 7 to May 14, 2018 for 306 first year nursing students. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS 22.0. The average degree of nursing image at 4.12, job value score of 3.12, and nursing professionalism score of 3.98. Nursing professionalism was positively correlated with the nursing image(r=.823, p<.001) and job value(r=.492, p<.001). The significant variables explaining nursing image(${\beta}=.760$, p=.000) and job value(${\beta}=.134$, p=.000) These factors explained 69% of nursing professionalism. It is necessary to provide education that consider the nursing image, job value of nursing students to help them establish an acceptable view of nursing professionalism.

Awareness of Professionalism and Job Stress in Child-Care Teachers of Children with Special Needs (장애아 보육교사의 전문성 인식과 직무스트레스의 관계)

  • This study defined awareness of professionalism and job stress in 353 child-care teachers of children with special needs and analyzed the relative contribution of professional awareness to job stress. Teachers showed high awareness of 'ethics' and 'enthusiasm enhancing professionalism', and this awareness correlated highly with professionalism in the 'specialized knowledge and skills' sub-factors. Teachers showed high levels of stress in the 'general duty' and the 'guidance of children with special needs' categories, and this correlated highly with stress caused by 'child-care center management.' The results of canonical correlation analysis indicated that of professionalism sub-factors only the awareness of 'social services' contributed positively to job stress.

Affecting Factors of Nursing Professionalism Perceived by Nursing Students (간호대학생의 간호전문직관에 미치는 영향 요인)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate nursing professionalism and affecting factors of nursing professionalism in freshman nursing students. Methods: Pre and post-test study design was used to compare the differences of sutdy variables at the completion of a fundamental nursing course. A convenience sample of 164 were recruited. The date were collected from September 1st to December 1st in 2012. Results: The mean scores of the nursing professionalism were significantly increased from a pre-test (3.73) to post-test (3.93). The mean scores of the self-esteem were significantly increased from a pre-test (3.05) to post-test (3.13). Self-esteem and satisfaction with nursing were factors that affect nursing professionalism. Conclusion: Attention should be given to nursing education to cultivate nursing professionalism by improving self-esteem and satisfaction with nursing in nursing students.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the structural relationship among professionalism of sport instructors, job burnout and turnover intention. Independent variable was professionalism of sport instructors, mediating variable was job burnout. Finally, dependent variable was turnover intention. The data were collected from 253 sport instructors of elementary school by the convenience sampling method. This study used IBM SPSS Ver. 20.0 and AMOS 18.0 for frequency analysis, reliability, correlation analysis, confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation model. After confirming the test of goodness of fit of a model, individual hypotheses was verified. The results were as follows; First, Professionalism had a significant influence on job burnout. Second, Job burnout had a significant influence on turnover intention. Third, Professionalism did not have a significant influence on turnover intention.

Difference on Identification of Gifted Students by Level of Perception of Teacher's Professionalism in Gifted Education (영재관찰추천 과정에서 담임교사의 영재교육전문성 인식 수준에 따른 영재판별의 차이)

  • This research looked into the recognitions of a teacher's discernment & recommendations of gifted elementary students targeting 184 elementary school teachers in Seoul district and compared and contrasted their awareness in order to confirm whether there existed a difference in the discernment of gifted elementary students according to their awareness level of professionalism in gifted and talented education. The research results are as follows: There appeared a significant difference in teachers' recognitions level of professionalism in gifted education according to their experience relevant to a gifted elementary student. The teachers, in the process of observations & nominations of gifted elementary students, pointed out creativity, learning motive and attitude as the highest judging standard and also regard such elements as discerning criteria of gifted students. In the process of observations & nominations of gifted elementary students, it was found that teachers' recognitions of importance of discerning criteria of gifted elementary students in relation to parents or fellow teachers' recommendations appeared relatively lower than their recognitions of importance in relation to learning ability, creativity, learning motive and attitude. The research results showed that a group of teachers, who have a high recognitions level of the professionalism in gifted education in the process of observations & nominations of gifted students, perceive the realm of creativity, learning motive, and attitude as more important. This suggests the necessity of elevating teachers' awareness level of professionalism in gifted and talented education in order to discern high-quality gifted students in the process observations & nominations of gifted elementary students putting emphasis on the realm of creativity, learning motive, and attitude.

Influence of Infant Teacher's Professionalism on Teacher-infant Interaction and Job Satisfaction (영아교사의 전문성 인식이 교사-영아 상호작용 및 직무만족도에 미치는 영향)

  • Objective: Teacher's professionalism means the ability to apply the knowledge, skills and attitudes related to child care effectively to carry out the child care process. Depending on the professionalism of the teacher, the teacher-infant interaction may be affected and the job satisfaction may be different. The purpose of this study was to investigate the level of perceived level of infant teachers' professionalism and to investigate the effect of professionalism of infant teachers on teacher-infant interaction and teacher's job satisfaction. In addition, through this study, it is aimed to help the infant teachers themselves to measure their own abilities and qualities and to develop individual growth by recognizing the importance of infant teacher's professionalism in the daycare center. Methods: For this study, a questionnaire survey was conducted on 329 infant teachers who were in charge of the ages between 0 and 2 years. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS / WIN 24.0 program. First, the mean and standard deviation of the subfactors of the infant teachers were determined in order to know the level of professionalism, teacher-infant interaction, In order to investigate the relationship between the variables, we conducted a Pearson correlation analysis. Finally, Multiple regression analysis was conducted to examine the effects of the teacher's professionalism on teacher-infant interaction and subfactors, and teacher job satisfaction and subfactors. Results: Teacher professionalism was found to have a positive effect on teacher-infant interaction, and caring interaction and teacher-parent-community relations were found to affect teacher-infant interaction. In addition, teacher professionalism had a positive effect on job satisfaction, and child development, curriculum, and teacher-parent-community relations were found to affect job satisfaction. Conclusion/Implications: Influence of teacher-infant interaction and teacher job satisfaction is different according to subfactors of teacher's professionalism. In particular, this suggests that it is necessary to consider ways to selectively raise the level of teacher professionalism according to the situation of infant teachers in each region.

Effects of ego-resilience, nursing professionalism and empathy on clinical competency of general hospital nurses (종합병원 간호사의 자아탄력성, 간호전문직관 및 공감능력이 임상수행능력에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the effects of ego-resilience, nursing professionalism and empathy on clinical competency and to suggest strategies for improving the clinical competency of general hospital nurses. Methods: Data collection was performed from Jan. 18th, 2019 to Feb. 14th. A total of 194 nurses from four general hospitals participated in this study. The collected data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Kruskal-Wallis test, Scheffe test, Pearson's correlation and stepwise multiple regression analysis using SPSS 23.0. Results: The factors affecting the clinical competency of general hospital nurses included ego-resilience (β=.28, p<.001), nursing professionalism (β=.20, p=.011), empathic concern (β=.19, p=.003), working department (β=-.17, p=.008), total clinical career (β=.15, p=.011), and number of beds (β=.13, p=.033). These factors accounted for 33.0% of the clinical competency (p<.001). Conclusion: It is important to find ways to improve the level of empathy of general hospital nurses and there is a need to include education programs or practical interventions to strengthen empathy at the clinical level.
