Factors Affecting Psychological Burnout in Nurses Caring for Terminal Cancer Patients

  • Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the impacts of end-of-life care competency and ethical dilemmas on psychological burnout in nurses who care for terminal cancer patients. Methods: A cross-sectional study of 160 nurses who cared for terminal cancer patients was conducted. The participants were recruited from the hospice-palliative care wards, hematology or oncology wards, or intensive care units of three general hospitals in a single metropolitan area. Data were collected using a self-administered survey to assess end-oflife care competency, ethical dilemmas, psychological burnout, and general sociodemographic characteristics. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, the independent ttest, analysis of variance, Pearson correlation coefficients, and hierarchical linear regression analysis using SPSS for Windows (version 26.0). Results: Psychological burnout was significantly correlated with end-of-life care competency (r=-0.23, P=0.003) but not with ethical dilemmas. The results of the hierarchical linear regression analysis indicated that endof-life care competency (β=-0.280, P=0.010) and ethical dilemmas (β=0.275, P=0.037) were significant predictors of psychological burnout, after adjusting for age, religious status, clinical experience, and unit type. Conclusion: The current study's findings demonstrate that end-of-life care competency and ethical dilemmas are crucial factors that affect psychological burnout in nurses who care for terminal cancer patients. Substantive education programs must be developed to improve nurses' competencies in end-of-life care and ethical dilemmas to decrease psychological burnout.

  • Unlike in the past, standards for the quantity and quality of work expected from medical school faculty are continuously rising, causing changes and stress in various areas. This highlights the need for career development among medical school faculty for professional, personal, organizational, and societal reasons. The role of medical school faculty has become more diverse, leading to an increase in the types and levels of competencies required. Medical schools must support their faculty members with diverse identities in fully utilizing their capabilities to achieve the institution's mission. Furthermore, societal changes suggest that career development for medical school faculty will become even more crucial in the future. To achieve this, both individuals and organizations must make efforts and play appropriate roles. For this purpose, medical schools use a combination of promotion and tenure evaluations and faculty development programs, while individual faculty members follow a career path within the medical school environment. Medical school faculty must be able to meet the evolving demands at each stage of their careers. It is important for professors, who engage in career development, to have a clear sense of their identity and values, and to prioritize their career goals. Medical schools should also ensure that the implicit messages they convey align with the organization's explicit values. Finally, proactively preparing for future changes in society and generations is essential from a long-term perspective.

컨설턴트 역량과 프로젝트 관리자 역량이 컨설팅 성과를 매개로 경영성과 간의 구조적 관계분석 (Analyzing the impact of Consultant and Project Manager Competencies on Business Performance Mediated by Consulting Performance)

  • This empirical analysis investigates the impact of consultant competency and project manager (PM) competency on business performance. Two hundred and twenty four chief executive officers and executive members at small and medium sized firms in the manufacturing sector were surveyed, yielding several outcomes. First, consultant competency positively affects consulting performance. Second, consultant competency positively affects business performance. Third, PM competency does not have a significant influence on consulting performance. Fourth, PM competency does not have a significant impact on business performance. Fifth, consulting performance does not have a significant effect on business performance. Finally, regarding the mediation effect of consulting performance on the influence of consultant competency and PM competency on business performance, consulting performance had no significant impact. Thus, expertise and insight are crucial for a consulting business to enable the growth of professional consultants. Furthermore, this study is expected to enhance the consulting performance of small and medium sized manufacturing firms by providing useful data to consultants and project managers when carrying out consulting projects.

간호교육에서 PBL(Problem-Based Learning) 수업의 적용 효과 (The Effects of Application of PBL(Problem-Based Learning) Class on Nursing Education)

  • 본 연구는 문제중심학습(PBL) 수업을 2018년 2학기 '간호과정과 비판적사고' 교과목에 적용한 후, 비판적 사고성향, 문제해결능력과 전문직 자아개념에 대한 효과를 규명하기 위하여 단일군 전·후 설계를 활용한 원시실험 연구이다. G도에 소재한 간호대학생 59명을 대상으로 자가보고식 설문을 실시하였다. 문제중심학습(PBL) 수업은 전통식 강의 8주, 문제중심학습(PBL) 수업 4주로 진행하였다. 자료분석은 SPSS/WIN 23.0 프로그램을 이용하였으며 일반적 특성은 빈도와 백분율, 두군 간에 차이는 평균, 표준편차, Paired t-test를 시행하였다. 연구결과, 간호대학생의 비판적 사고성향은 문제중심학습(PBL) 수업 전(3.41±.40)보다 수업 후(3.71±.36)에 유의하게 증가하였다(t=4.39, p<.001). 문제해결능력은 문제중심학습(PBL) 수업 전(3.36±.38)보다 수업 후(3.70±.59)에 유의하게 증가하였다(t=3.97, p<.001). 전문직 자아개념은 문제중심학습(PBL) 수업 전(2.92±.28)보다 수업 후(3.22±.50)에 유의하게 증가하였다(t=4.84, p<.001). 따라서 문제중심학습(PBL)을 간호교육에 더욱 확대하여 적용한다면 간호대학생이 갖추어야 할 핵심역량을 높이는데 효과적일 것이라고 사료된다.

감각통합 중재를 사용하는 초임치료사의 교육요구도 및 역량에 대한 자기평가 (Educational Needs and Self-Assessment for Competency of Newly Employed Therapists Using Sensory Integration Intervention)

  • 목적 : 감각통합중재를 하는 초임 치료사를 대상으로 감각통합중재 역량의 중요도, 수행도, 교육 요구도를 조사 분석하고자 하였다. 연구방법 : 3년 이하의 감각통합 중재 경험이 있는 치료사 174명을 대상으로 일반적 특성과 감각통합중재 역량의 중요도, 수행도, 교육 요구도를 조사하였다. 교육요구도와 순위를 규명하기 위해 Borich 교육요구도 분석을 사용하였다. 결과 : 초임 치료사가 가장 중요하게 인식하면서 수행수준을 가장 낮게 인식하는 역량군은 '전문성'이었으며, 응답한 교육요구도와 Borich 분석에서도 '전문성'역량군의 요구도가 가장 높은 것으로 나타났다. 하위역량 모두에서 중요도와 수행도의 차이가 통계적으로 유의하게 나타났으며, Borich 분석에서 '전문성' 역량군 내의 하위영역 중 '평가기술'(5.56), '분석기술'(5.50), '작업치료 일반지식'(5.47)로 교육요구도의 순위가 도출되었다. 결론 : 감각통합중재를 사용하는 초임치료사는 전문성 역량군을 가장 중요하게 인식하면서도 자신의 수행수준이 낮다고 인식하였고, 해당 교육을 가장 필요로 하는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구는 이러한 연구결과를 바탕으로 초임치료사의 교육 요구도를 반영한 역량 강화를 위한 교육의 방향 설정하기 위한 기초자료를 제시하였다.

Stakeholders' Opinion on the Desired Characteristics of Nursing School Graduates and Factors Concerning Nursing Curriculum Development in Thailand

  • Effective higher educational management in undergraduate nursing programs is an important issue from the viewpoint of stakeholders. This qualitative research aimed to examine the characteristics of nursing students and curriculum development of undergraduate nursing education from the opinions of Boromarajonani College of Nursing Saraburi, Thailand stakeholders. The population included 4 groups: 1) the alumni who have graduated within the past 5 years and currently work in primary, secondary, and tertiary care units, 2) the supervisors and colleagues of the alumni, 3) nursing lecturers, and 4) the current nursing students. The respondents who are the alumni, nursing lecturers, and current nursing student were selected using a purposive sampling, for the supervisors and colleagues were selected using snowball techniques. Semi-structured interview questions were used for data collection. Group discussions were conducted until saturation on 55 key informants. The qualitative data was analyzed using content analysis. Results showed the viewpoints of stakeholders on the characteristics of future nurse graduates were comprised of four elements: knowledge that meets standards; essential skills for self-development and lifelong learning process; good morals and professional ethics in providing nursing care; and nurse competencies in teamwork, communication, language, research, management, IT, life skills, and global literacy. The viewpoints on the development of the nursing curriculum focus on four elements: the learner, teaching and learning, course content, and instructor tasks. For learners, the admission criteria should include a minimum not only of knowledge, but also positive attitude, science, and art skills, since the nursing profession is both a science and the art of caring. Teaching and learning elements should be authentic, including exposure to real situations, an integrated network, and activities that improve nursing care. Course content was comprised of an updated curriculum, humanized nursing care, student center, theory and practice with moral integration, case-based study, critical thinking, multidisciplinary work, and love for the nursing profession. Instructor tasks are to elicit student ideas, provide opportunities to learn, support infrastructure, support technology use, and extra-curricular activities to develop the competencies of nursing students. Recommendations were that the curriculum administration should review the selection process of student candidates and instructional management to achieve expected outcomes of nursing characteristics in the future. The nurse lecturer should provide authentic and integrated instruction, decrease lecturing, cultivate a lifelong learning process, and sustain the nursing characteristics.

과학영재의 자유탐구를 안내하는 연구단계별 질문목록 개발 (Development of a Question List in Accordance with Stage of Research, Which Guides Open Inquiry of Gifted Students in Science)

  • 자유탐구는 영재학습자를 위한 대표적인 교수학습 방법 중 하나이다. 그러나 자유탐구는 매우 복합적인 학습과정이기 때문에 이를 성공적으로 수행하기 위해 영재들은 다양한 영역에 걸친 복합적인 역량들을 개발해야 한다. 본 연구는 과학영재들이 자유탐구를 통해 보다 전문가 수준에 가까운 연구역량을 키우고, 차별화된 산출물을 내놓는 과정에서 비계로 활용할 수 있도록 연구단계별 질문목록을 개발하였다. 이를 위해 연구방법론, 학술적 글쓰기, 탐구와 관련된 학습 연구 등 자유탐구와 관련될 수 있는 다양한 분야의 문헌들을 검토하였다. 이를 바탕으로 자유탐구를 인지적, 초인지적, 사회문화적 과정으로 규정하여 질문목록의 개발발향을 설정하였다. 이어서 자유탐구의 목표를 상세화한 후에 연구의 단계를 범주화하는 모형을 개발하고, 각 연구단계별로 탐구의 성공적인 수행에 도움이 되는 주요 질문들을 개발하였다. 끝으로 본 질문목록을 활용하여 영재 학생의 자유탐구를 지도할 때 유의할 점들을 논의하였다.

애니메이션 문화예술교육을 위한 에듀케이터로서의 문화예술교육사 역량 연구 (A Study on Teaching Artists competencies as educator for animation arts and culture education)

  • 2018년 1급 문화예술교육사 시행을 앞두고 있는 시점에서 문화예술교육사에게 요구되는 자격 요건은 교육 콘텐츠 기획 및 교육 프로그램 개발과 운영 등 박물관의 에듀케이터 수준의 역량이다. 이는 기존의 문화예술교육에서 야기된 교육수요자의 학령에 따른 난이도 조절의 문제점과 중복된 교육 프로그램, 몇 몇 주제의 선호도에 따른 제작위주의 교과 과정 등의 문제점 해소 뿐 만 아니라, 최근 과학기술의 발달에 따른 새로운 융복합적 문화예술교육과정을 위한 역량의 문제이기도 하다. 이 논문에서는 단순히 어린이와 청소년들이 문화예술향유자로 성장하도록 지원하는 예술강사지원사업이라는 목표를 넘어서서 좀 더 전문적인 역량을 갖춘 에듀케이터로서 문화예술교육사의 의미와 역할을 정립하고자 한다. 1급 문화예술교육사 자격의 핵심요건인 문화예술교육 프로그램 기획의 경우 애니메이션 관련 콘텐츠에 대한 기초조사에서 큐레이팅, 교육 콘텐츠의 가능성 여부, 교육대상과 교육내용의 구성, 내용의 심미적 특성과 교육적 기능, 문화향유를 위한 감상과 체험 등 종합적인 전문성과 자질을 요구하고 있다. 따라서 문화예술교육사는 단순히 교육 프로그램을 개발하고 운영하는 기획자의 역할 뿐 만 아니라, 문화예술기관 이용자의 조력자이자 옹호자의 역할과 사회의 다양한 계층과의 소통과 협력, 상호간의 문화교류 등에 가치를 두는 창의적 프로그램의 설계와 운용 역량을 습득해야 한다.

Formation of Resilience in the Context of Volunteer Activities Using Information and Communications Technology

  • The article identifies and theoretically substantiates the trends of national resilience in the context of establishing the security of the country and its civilizational subjectivity. The strategy of development of the pedagogical university in the conditions of European integration into the European educational and scientific space based on certain characterological features of the personality of the volunteer in the context of allocation of personal resilience is developed. The analysis of both external and internal challenges and threats to the civilization of the country needs to be understood in the context of economic, socio-political, legal, military-political, spiritual-cultural, educational-scientific and network-information resilience. The concepts of "national resilience" and "national security" are quite close - at first glance, even identical. However, a deeper understanding clarifies the differences: national security is a state of protection of the country identity and its very existence, the realization of its national interests. In turn, resilience is a fairly effective strategy and a fundamental guarantee of national security. At the same time, it is extremely important to understand that both national security as a state and national resilience as a strategy are only means of achieving and developing a strong and humanistic civilizational subjectivity of the country. After all, such subjectivity opens for citizens the opportunity for development, dignified self-realization and a proper life. The restructuring of the volunteer's motivational sphere is due to the dominance of such leading motives, which are focused mainly on maintaining and restoring health, which leads to distorted meaningful life goals: isolation, alienation, passivity, inertia, reduced activity, limited communication, etc. The characteristics of relatively stable human behavior include several primary and secondary properties. The primary (relevant) properties include patience, trust, hope, faith, confidence, determination, perseverance, and love; the secondary - punctuality, neatness, obedience, honesty, loyalty, justice, diligence, thrift, accuracy, conscientiousness, obligation, etc. The restructuring of the volunteer's motivational sphere is due to the dominance of such leading motives, which are focused mainly on maintaining and restoring health, which leads to distorted meaningful life goals: isolation, alienation, passivity, inertia, reduced activity, limited communication, etc. The characteristics of relatively stable human behavior include several primary and secondary properties. Directly to the personal traits of resilience should be included methodological competencies, which include methodological knowledge, skills and abilities (ability to define ultimate and intermediate goals, plan, conduct and analyze knowledge, establish and implement interdisciplinary links with disciplines of medical-psychological-pedagogical cycles, etc.). All these competencies form the professional resilience of the volunteer.

과체중 및 비만임부를 위한 생활습관중재 프로그램의 효과 (Effect of Lifestyle Intervention Program for Overweight and Obesity Pregnant Women)

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to identify the effects of a lifestyle intervention program on weight gain, dietary habits, fatigue and pregnancy stress, blood pressure, and neonatal birth weight, using Cox's interaction model of client health behavior for overweight and obese women. Methods: This was a quasi-experimental research with a non-equivalent control group pre-post test design. A total of 52 patients who met the selection criteria, including 25 in the experimental group and 27 in the control group, were the subjects of the study; they comprised overweight and obese pregnant women who were receiving prenatal care at A and B women's hospital in J province. The lifestyle intervention program ran for 12 weeks in total and consisted of interactions involving affective support, health information, and professional/technical competencies. The data collection period was from February 1, 2017 to August 31, 2017. Results: This study showed differences in the appropriate weight gain rate (χ2=6.17, p=.013), suppression of an increase in fatigue (t=-2.32, p=.012), and an increase in pregnancy stress (t=-1.87, p=.034). Yet, no differences in physical activity, dietary habits change, blood pressure, and neonatal birth weight (p>.05) were found. Conclusion: The study findings indicate that this program could be an effective intervention for the control of appropriate weight gain, fatigue, and pregnancy stress. Therefore, a lifestyle intervention program based on Cox's interaction model of client health behavior could be an efficient strategy for a positive health outcome of overweight and obesity pregnant women.
