Influencing Factors and Importance of Nurses' Caring Behaviors for Chronically Sick Elderly (노인 만성질환자 돌봄행위에 대한 간호사의 중요도 인지와 영향요인)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the importance of nurses' caring behaviors and to identify the factors influencing of nurses' caring behaviors. Methods: The participants were 404 nurses who were caring the chronically sick elderly in five H university hospitals. Data were collected through self-reported questionnaires on the importance of caring behaviors, nursing professional value and job satisfaction. Data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Scheffe-test, Pearson's correlation coefficient and stepwise multiple regression with SPSS/WIN 16.0. Results: The average score for importance of nurses' caring behaviors was 3.38 and the 'professional knowledge and skill' factor was the highest level. The mean score of nursing professional value was 7.53 and job satisfaction, 3.18. Importance of nurses' caring behaviors had a significant positive correlation with nursing professional value, job satisfaction, nurse's age and work experience among demographic variables. Two significant variables influencing importance of nurses' caring behaviors were nursing professional value and job satisfaction. But characteristics of nurses did not influence. Conclusion: The findings of this study indicate that importance of nurses' caring behaviors can be improved by intervening factors affecting this importance. Based on the findings of this study, further nursing practice and nursing research for nurses caring the sick elderly should be focused on their nursing professional value and job satisfaction.

A Study on the Professional Self-concept, Self Efficacy and Job Satisfaction of Hemodialysis Unit Nurses (투석실 간호사의 전문직 자아개념, 자기효능감과 직무만족도)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore the level of professional self-concept, self-efficacy and job satisfaction among nurses who work at hemodialysis units. Methods: With convenience sampling, 128 nurses working at hemodialysis settings in Chungcheong Province were participated in this study. Data were analyzed using SPSS/WIN 14.0 with descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, and Pearson correlation coefficient. Results: The mean scores were 2.68 for professional self-concept, 3.65 for self efficacy and 3.14 for job satisfaction. There were significant differences in professional self-concept according to age, religion, position and clinical experience. There was statistically significant difference in self-efficacy according to age. Also, there was statistically significant difference in job satisfaction according to age, marital status, hospital type, position, clinical experience, and the number of patients per nurse. Job satisfaction was positively correlated with professional self-concept and self-efficacy. Conclusion: These findings provided that interventions to enhance professional self-concept as well as the strategies to improve self-efficacy are very important.

Professional Self-concept and Job Satisfaction among Nurses Working in Long-term Care Hospitals (요양병원 간호사의 전문직 자아개념과 직무만족)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to identify the relationship between professional self-concept and job satisfaction of nurses working in long-term care hospitals and to consider strategies to improve these factors. Methods: Data were collected using structured questionnaires given to 135 nurses working at six long-term care hospitals in C City. The data were analyzed with SPSS 23.0 by descriptive statistics, Cronbach's α, t-test, one-way ANOVA, a Scheffé test, and with Pearson's correlation coefficient. Results: The average score for professional self-concept was 2.78 points (out of 4 points), and the average score for job satisfaction was 3.11 points (out of 5 points). Significant differences were found for professional self-concept according to age, marriage status, total work experience, number of patients per nurse, and position, while job satisfaction showed significant differences depending on age and the number of patients in the ward. Professional self-concept and job satisfaction showed a significant positive correlation (r=.46, p<.001). Conclusion: In long-term care hospitals, it is necessary to provide education programs about nursing practice, communication, and leadership to enhance the professional self-concept of nurses. With regard to job satisfaction for nurses, it is imperative to improve the work environment of long-term care hospitals.

A Comparative Study on Main Role, Professional Self Concept and Job Satisfaction of Public Health Nurses and Clinical Nurses (보건 간호사와 임상간호사의 주된 역할, 전문직 자아개념과 직무만족정도 비교)

  • This study was aimed at comparing and evaluating one main role, the professional self concept and job satisfaction of public health nurses and clinical nurses. Method: The data was collected from 72 nurses in 8 health centers and 86 nurses in 5 hospitals in Daegu city and Kyungpook province from May 5th to June 5th, 2001. This study was interviewed by trained social workers. The origin of questionnaires used in this study were PSCNI(Professional Self-Concept of Nurses Instrument) to measure the professional self concept of nurses and JDI(Job Descriptive Index) to measure the job satisfaction of nurses. The data was analyzed by SAS(version 6.12) and statistical methods used were Chi-square test, t-test, ANOVA(analysis of variables) and ANCOVA(analysis of covariate). Result: The findings of this study were as follows: 1. The most important domain in the main role of public health nurses were as counsellors, managers, mediators and evaluators. In clinical nurses, their main roles were, directors of nursing, researchers, spokesmans, and informers. 2. Public health nurses showed lower scores in the professional self concept of nurses than clinical nurses, what statistically significant tool was used to suggest this finding. 3. Public health nurses showed higher scores in job satisfaction than clinical nurses, but again, explain the tool used in these findings for give a rationals. 4. For public health nurses, general characteristics which affected professional self concept were age, educational level, and duration of job. In clinical nurses, the general characteristics which affected professional self concept were age, religion, marital status, and duration of job. 5. For public health nurses, there was no general characteristic which affected job satisfaction. In clinical nurses, the general characteristics which affected job satisfaction were age, religion, and duration of job. Conclusion: Nursing profession should give a training to competent nurses who can deliver high quality care to meet the needs of health consumers. The role of nurses has been expended and specialized as health conception has been changed in Korea.

The Effects of Sales Services and Organizational Member Relationships of Fashion Brand Salesperson on Job Performance and Job Satisfaction (패션브랜드 판매원의 판매서비스와 조직구성원 관계가 직무성과와 직무만족에 미치는 영향 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to reveal the effects of sales services and organizational member relationships of fashion brand salespersons on job performance and job satisfaction, as well as how job performance, job satisfaction, salesperson services, and organizational member relationships differ according to the sales career and job position. The data were collected by administering a questionnaire to fashion brand salespeople in Gwangju from September to October 2020. Using 235 responses, the data were analyzed with SPSS 27.0 for frequency analysis, reliability analysis, t-test, factor analysis, and regression analysis. The research results were as follows. First, the basic services of the salesperson comprised factors such as 'consideration and convenience', 'appearance and dress', and 'kindness and greeting', which are considered better variables to explain job performance than job satisfaction. Second, the salesperson's professional service consisted of 'fashion product knowledge', 'professional self-management', and 'store display technology' factors, which are good variables to predict job performance. Third, the relationship between the members of a salesperson's organization consists of factors such as 'headquarters relations', 'colleague relations', and 'emotional labor', which was better for explaining job satisfaction than job performance. Fourth, depending on the position, professional salespeople exhibited significantly higher values in job performance, basic and professional services of salespersons, and 'headquarters relations' factors, whereas there were no significant differences in job satisfaction, 'colleague relations' and 'emotional labor'. Lastly, the more sales career, the higher the job performance, and the basic services, professional services, and 'headquarters relations' factors of salespeople were also good.

A Study on the Relationship between Professional Self-concept and Job Satisfaction of Physical Therapists (물리치료사의 전문직 자아개념과 직무만족과의 관계 연구)

  • Purpose: We investigated the relationship between professional self-concept and the job satisfaction of physical therapists. Methods: The subjects of the study were 221 physical therapists who worked in medical institutions in Seoul city and Kyounggi do. A questionnaire developed by Arthur and adapted by Sohng and Noh was used for measuring the professional self-concept. A questionnaire developed by Kim and Son and adapted by Kim and Jeon was used for measuring the job satisfaction. Results: The levels of the professional self-concept of physical therapists was a mean of 3.51 points and the level of job satisfaction was a mean of 3.32. There was a statistically significant difference for the professional self-concept of physical therapists according to such general characteristics as age (F=6.38, p<0.05), career (F=4.56, p<0.05) and pay (F=15.94, p<0.05), and there was a significant difference of job satisfaction according to such general characteristics as age (F=15.94, p<0.05), career (F=13.65, p<0.05) and pay (F=12.96, p<0.05). The relationship between professional self-concept and job satisfaction showed a positive correlation (r=0.65, p<0.05). Conclusion: These findings show that modifications to the current program may improve the professional self-concept and job satisfaction of physical therapists.

Effect of Job Stress, Working Bullying, Self-Efficacy on the Professional Self-Concept of Intensive Care Unit Nurses (중환자실 간호사의 직무스트레스, 직장 내 괴롭힘, 자기효능감이 전문직 자아개념에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose : The aims of this study was to provide basic data to enhance the professional self-concept of nurses in intensive care unit and identify the relationship between job stress, working bullying, self-efficacy and professional self-concept and identify the factors influencing professional self-concept in intensive care unit nurses. Methods : This study was conducted from June to August, 2018 at five general hospitals over 500 beds. Structured questionnaire were completed by 120 nurses who had agreed to understand and participate in the study. The collected data were analyzed using the SPSS win 24.0 program. Results : Factors affecting the professional self-concept of the subjects were self-efficacy, working bullying, unsatisfaction and satisfaction of nursing job satisfaction, age. The explanatory power of these variables on professional self-concept was 55.1%. Conclusion : The self-efficacy, working bullying, nursing job satisfaction, and age of the intensive care unit nurses were identified as the major factors influencing the professional self-concept. Therefore, it is necessary to develop and apply an educational program to improve self-efficacy and nursing job satisfaction and reduce working bullying, which are influencing factors of professional self-concept of intensive care unit nurse.

Correlations between Professional Autonomy, Job Satisfaction, and Turnover Intention of Nurses Perceived by Nurses and Physicians: Focus on Medium-sized Hospitals (간호사와 의사가 지각하는 간호사의 전문직 자율성과 직무만족 및 이직의도와의 관계 : 중소병원을 대상으로)

  • Objectives: This study examined the degree of professional autonomy of nurses as perceived by nurses and doctors, as well as the relation between professional autonomy, job satisfaction, and turnover intention of nurses. Methods: A questionnaire survey was conducted with 292 nurses and 121 physicians working in 10 small- and medium-sized hospitals with located in G Metropolitan City. Results: The difference in the level of nurses' professional autonomy as perceived by nurses and physicians was found to be significantly higher in nurses than in physicians. Professional autonomy and job satisfaction were significantly and positively correlated; professional autonomy and turnover intention were significantly and negatively correlated; and job satisfaction and turnover intention were also significantly and negatively correlated. Conclusions: Various efforts to increase nurses' professional autonomy and the development of effective workforce management programs to prevent turnover should be actively conducted to address the problems of small- and medium-sized hospitals facing a shortage of nurses.

Factors influencing job satisfaction of clinical dental hygienists in schoolwork (학업을 병행하는 임상치과위생사의 직무만족도 영향 요인)

  • Objectives: This study was conducted to understand the influencing factors of job satisfaction of clinical dental hygienists in schoolwork, and use the basic data to enhance their job satisfaction. Methods: A self-reported questionnaire was filled out by 210 dental clinic hygienists from June 10 to August 30 of 2018. Data were analyzed using SPSS 22.0. Independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, Scheffe's post-hoc test, and Pearson correlation coefficient were reviewed, and a multiple regression analysis was conducted. Results: The scores of subjects' professional self-concept, self-esteem, job stress, and job satisfaction were 3.37, 3.80, 2.79, and 3.37, respectively. The influencing factors of job satisfaction of clinical dental hygienists in schoolwork included marital status, support in workplace, professional self-concept, and job stress, with 41.6% of the explanatory power. Conclusions: The stronger the professional self-concept, the lower the job-stress and higher the job satisfaction. The job satisfaction was also higher in the group in which the subjects were married and getting support in the workplace compared to the other group with no support in the workplace. Therefore, support systems and institutional support are required for clinical dental hygienists to be continuously educated in the workplace.

The Effects of Organizational Justice on Job Satisfaction, Professional Commitment and Organizational Commitment among Hospital Physicians (조직공정성이 종합병원 의사들의 직무만족, 전문직업몰입 및 조직몰입에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the impacts of distributive and procedural justice on job satisfaction, professional commitment and organizational commitment among hospital physicians. The sample of this study consisted of 185 physicians from 8 general hospitals located in Metropolitan area and Youngnam area in Korea. Data were collected using self-administered questionnaires with the response rate of 40.2% and analyzed using hierarchical regression technique. The results of this study showed that procedural justice had a direct impact on job satisfaction, professional commitment and organizational commitment among hospital physicians, whereas distributive justice had no significant impact. The results imply that hospital administrators should take measures to establish procedural justice to increase job satisfaction, professional commitment and organizational commitment among hospital physicians.
