The New International Division of Labor:Re-evaluation (신국제노동분업의 재평가)

  • As an exit to solve the economic depression of the development countries in the early twentieth century, the 'old international division of labor' developed. The economic crisis(i.e., under-consumption crisis) was due to the absence of the mode of regulation compatible with the extensive regime of accumulation(i.e., "Fordist" regime). The crisis was solved by the state intervention through the creation on institutions in order to increase the level of consumption. Until the late 1960s when "high Fordism" reached(i.e., a harmonious relation between the monopoly mode of regulation and the intensive accumulation of capital), the developed core countries enjoyed a remarkable economic growth. The external market was not a necessity for the economic growth because there were increases in labor productivity and proportional increases in real wages and thus increases in consumption level. In the 1970s, however, the core faced with economic crisis again. Due to the breakdown of the postwar "Fordist" regime of capital accumulation and the post 1973 world depression, the core needed the Third World as a solution for their internal and international economic crisis. Thus the 'new international division of labor'(NIDL) arose. The "Fordist" method of production(i.e., the divisions of production process) led to the territorial division of labor and to the detailed division of labor. The aim of the NIDL is to exploit reserve armies of labor on a world scale and thus to reduce production costs. According to the NIDL model, the Third World countries have been developing by the core countries' investment on mainly labor-intensive industries and thus have been playing an important role in the global economy. And the NIDL theorists argue that multinational corporations have increasingly invested in the Third World nations and contributed to the economic growth in those regions. Tables presented in the paper show that the global trend since the 1970s does not follow the argument exactly as the NIDL theorists predicted. On the contrary, the core countries focus on developing technology, adopting the automation of production process, and trading within the core countries rather than on investing in the periopheral countries. The continuing investment of multinational corporations into the periphery is not because of cheap labor force but because of the market potentials in the regions. Majority of corporations of the core tries to reduce production costs by investing in technological development more intensively and also by changing regional strategies (i.E., investment from metropolitan areas to medium - or small - size cities, focusing on agglomeration economy, boosting regional diversification, etc.) within their own countries. A Study on the Suitability Analysis of Welding Robot System for Replacement of Manual Welding in Ship Manufacturing Process (선박 제조 공정 분야에서 수용접 대체를 위한 용접 로봇 시스템 도입의 적합성 분석 연구)

  • Welding work is a production work method widely used throughout the industry, and various types of welding technologies exist. In addition, many methods are being studied to automate these welding operations using robots, but in the ship manufacturing field, welding such as painting, cutting, and grinding is also the most common operation, but the manual operation ratio is higher than in other industries. Such a high manual labor ratio in the field of ship manufacturing not only causes quality problems and production delays according to the skill of workers, but also causes problems in the supply and demand of manpower. Therefore, this paper analyzed the reason why the automation rate is low in welding work at ship manufacturing sites compared to other industries, and analyzed the production process and field environment for small and medium-sized ship manufacturing companies that repeatedly manufactured with a small quantity production method. Based on the analysis results, it is intended to propose a robot system that can easily move between workplaces and secure uniform welding quality and productivity by collaborating simple welding tasks with humans. Finally, the simulation environment is constructed and analyzed to secure the suitability of robot system application to current production site environment, work process, and productivity, rather than to develop and apply the proposed robot system. Through such pre-simulation and robot system suitability analysis, it is expected to reduce trial and error that may occur in actual field installation and operation, and to improve the possibility of robot application and positive perception of robot system at ship manufacturing sites.

  • As manufacturing items have changed in various ways, changes in the mass production of small-scale small-scale production of multiple varieties have become commonplace. As a result, the method of the manufacturing site has also changed, and the "smart factory," which emphasizes the production efficiency aspect using automation lines and big data of factories, is in the spotlight according to the global market economy. The introduction performance of smart factories has a positive effect in terms of production efficiency and is drawing a steep upward curve. In addition to the positive aspects, the aspect that needs to be supplemented in the future is the support and cooperation of specialized smart equipment suppliers, but education on standardized smart factories and the relocation of existing manpower, education, evaluation, and creative production that robots cannot replace Various support measures are also needed for activities. In addition, continuous management and systematic education are required to enter the upper stage. Through the case of companies that have built smart factories, it is intended to emphasize the need for proper use of manpower and support management for settlement and maintenance after introduction and continuous on-the-job training through the comparison of productivity before and after introduction to ensure the effect continues.

  • Recently, various career paths draw young workers from twenty to forty to the metro city in Korea. The korea's agriculture sector has decrease in population and productivity which result a threat for it to become an aging society. Also, our country has a difficulty in a tough competition with other countries through agricultural market-opening such as WTO and FTA. In this paper, we introduce a technology using open-source project including Raspberry that easily accessible and applicable to an agricultural industry. In other words, as we build a device monitoring the production environment, everyone can use agricultural sector through an IoT technology, solve the problem with a labor shortage through production process automation, check the condition of the agricultural environment in real time, enhance the quality of the agricultural product by corresponding a certain condition, and improve the competitiveness through a competitive price comparing to the worldwide farm product. Also, we find a way to use data to the other business through data collection and analysis in a process of using the IoT.

Development of the Altari Radish Pre-Processing System for Kimchi Production (IV) - Automation and Evaluation of the Prototype Machine - (김치생산용 알타리무 전처리가공시스템 개발 (IV) - 시작기의 자동화와 평가 -)

  • An Altari radish pre-processing system, which feasible to process automatically such operations as leaf and root tail cutting and root peeling, for kimchi production was accomplished based on the foregone serial studies. In this study, the performances of the developed prototype machine, considered as a commercializing level, were analyzed and evaluated. The prototype machine attached Tiny PLC automatic control system was performed the sequent function as the rate of successful peeling was more than 98% for the Altari radish less than 70 mm diameter of a radish. The operating efficiency of this was 9 see/each, 128 kg/h, and it means as much as $5{\sim}6$ times that of a woman labor's. The sanitation and taste of the mechanized-processed Altari radish kimchi was almost same as that of the handmade. And they were suitable for manufactory of kimchi as the both short term ripening and storing kimchi. Developed machinery with one peeling device and two peeling devices that compared with hand processing, it was analyzed that the break-even yearly working days were 28 days and 19 days, and the break-even yearly processing amount were 28,700 kg, 32,400 kg, respectively.

  • As the automation of ship production system proliferates, it is unavoidable to move the real machinery, facility, application software, and virtual environment from the heterogeneous data environment to the integrated one. However, it is a prevailing situation that each component operates under the different environment, due to the inability of interchanging the data in a structured manner between the components. The issue is obstacles to improvement of the application system. To facilitate seamless exchange of data among the manufacturing systems, STEP, PDML, and XML has been tried by other studies. This study has investigated how XML data can be applied to exchange the data among the ship production system components. XML data is applied to the forming shop in shipyard to overcome the present difficulties on sharing and exchanging of the information. An example of forming information is represented by XML to demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed approach. In addition, an application of XML information applicable to virtual factory and electronic work order sheet is included.

  • Between 1980 and 1997 the Korean textile and clothing industry (KTCI) experienced the transformation of export-led accumulation regime rooted in domestically-derived price competitiveness into the combination between foreign mass production involving the geographical extension of productive forces and quality strategy based on upgrading technology and automation involved in the domestic market for high quality and price products. This restructuring of the KTCI is rooted at the crisis in the export-led growth regime implemented unity 1980 due to the rapid increase in wage levels by the ‘great labour movement’occurred in 1987. In particular, increased wage and collective bargaining realized through labour empowerment led to the crisis in the conjoin between mass production and mass export based on long working hours and low wage structure. The aim of this paper is to explore the transformation of development modes between 1980 and 1997 that can help us in understanding the fundamental reasons for the restructuring of the KTCI. To this end, the paper identifiles the changing accumulation regimes between 1980 and 1997 mediated by wage-labour relations, inter-firm relations and state-film relations, which are insitutional forms of the modes of regulation.

  • Nowadays, the majority of the manufacturing plant equipment tend to be transformed with automation system than traditional manual equipment. Production manager to make the process decision-making, not accustomed to manage and take advantage of professional decision-making technique. So rather than using the system proposed, it is common to undergo sporadic measures through the external intermediary. In this paper, whether possible delivery to match the delivery through the issue and decision-making system of the data input to be generated in the manufacturing process, review the supply information of the material used in the process, a plurality of input / output device We have proposed an input module that utilizes the Android Application and ATmega2560. As a result, easily cope with the improvement and change of process information of the work efficiency of the production business of the manufacturing process, and reduced plant data missing tasks, and management improvement to the improvement of the delivery compliance and product satisfaction by improving productivity we try to contribute to.

  • Meeting the growing demand deadlines, reducing the production cost and upgrading the quality control measurements are the reasons why the automotive part manufacturers are venturing into automation. Attaining these objectives is impossible with human inspection for many reasons. Accordingly, the introduction of inspection system purposely for door hinge bracket inspection is presented in this study as an alternative for human inspection. This proposal is designed to meet the demands, features and specifications of door hinge bracket manufacturing companies in striving for increased throughput of better quality. To improve demerits of this manual operation, inspection system is introduced. As the inspection algorithm, template matching algorithm is applied to distinguish the articles of good quality and the poorly made articles. Through the verification test of the inspection process algorithm and the similarity metric matching algorithm, the detection accuracy was 98%, and it was applied to the production site to contribute to the improvement of the productivity due to the decrease of the defective product.

Influence of Vibration on Freezing and Fermentation of Watery Kimchi (진동이 물김치의 동결과 발효에 미치는 영향)

  • Vibration at frequency of 20 Hz and 0.18 g of acceleration was applied to 600 g watery kimchi contained in a glass jar of 1 L at subfreezing temperature (-3 and $-6^{\circ}C$) and $10^{\circ}C$ in order to see its effect on freezing and fermentation behaviors, respectively. The vibration at the subfreezing temperature delayed the freezing process and contributed to maintaining small ice crystal slurry in subsequent frozen storage. The vibration at $10^{\circ}C$ accelerated the acid and carbon dioxide production from the watery kimchi, which may be beneficial in shortening ripening time and attaining fresh cool taste.
