Generally, the assembly system relied on conveyor lines is efficient for mass production. But it is not efficient when the product types are often varying and their lot sizes are small. Especially, it is much inefficient for the assembly lines for the electronic products whose types are varying very often. This paper suggests the design of U-shaped assembly lines to replace the existing conveyor systems. The assembly line for the mini-cassette production is dealt with as a case study. The proposed procedure was successfully applied for the design of U-shaped lines. The developed method resulted in the improvement of the productivity such as the decrease of the man power and the cycle time, and the increase of the line utility.
The recent machine tools are requested so high-quality processing and productivity increasing. Therefore it is so necessary to develop technology for high-speed and high-precision. This thesis touches on the development of high speed and intellectual line center. At first, the line center is necessary that strong structure, compact structure an light weight design for high-speed processing and transfer. So. It is necessary that examination of new materials and structures for light-weight and control devices for precision processing. So. it si going to make mention of the process of 1st model production for the above-mentioned base on test model production and evaluation.

This paper presents a decomposition method to evaluate the performance measures of transfer line with unreliable machine and finite buffers. The proposed method is to decompose the transfer fine into a set of two machine lines for analysis. Nonhomogeneous lines are considered. In such fines, the machines may take the different lengths of time performing operations on parts. A simple transformation is employed in order to replace the line by a homogeneous line. The approximate transformation enables one to determine parameters of performance such as production rate and average buffer levels, and it also shows better applications for a large class of systems.
Tailored-welded blanks are used for forming of automobile structural and skin components. Its main objective is to achieve weight and production cost reduction in manufacturing of the components. For successful application of tailored-welded blanks design of initial welded blanks and prediction of welding line movement are critical. Here the utilization of the backward tracing scheme of the finite element method shows to be desirable in design of initial welded blanks for net-shape production and in prediction of the welding line movement. First the design of initial blank in forming of welded thick sheet with isotropy is tried and it appears successful in obtaining a net-shape stamping product. Based in the first approach the backward tracing scheme is applied to anisotropic tailored blank. The welding line movement is also discussed.

This article describes the basic engineering concepts to be considered in the application of an induction heating furnace in the hot-dip galvanizing line. Experience in the Dongkuk project in Pohang, has shown that this arrangement has many advantages over the conventional method of using a combustion-gas heated furnace. Investment and operating costs are lower, the line length is much shorter, line operation is more convenient, air pollution is reduced, and the coated strip at of top-quality. As these benefits become well known, it is anticipated that the concept of induction heating will be more widely used in both new and revamped process lines. Induction heating is suitable for the production of Commercial Quality hot galvanized coils. More research is required to extend the present concept to the production of higher forming grades such as Drawing, Deep Drawing and Extra Deep Drawing Quality steels. A combination of induction heating and combustion-gas heating may lead to the way to the processing of these qualities of strip.
In mixed model assembly lines, products are assembled seqeuntially that have different combination of options specified by customers. In just in time (JIT) environment, production smoothing becomes an important issue for sub-lines which supply the necessary parts to each workstation of the assembly line. Another important issue is to avoid line stopping caused by work overload in workstations. To find a sequence which minimizes the costs associated with line stoppage and the option parts inventory level, a nonlinear mixed integer programming is formulated. Recognizing the limit of the Branch and Bound technique in large sized problems, a heuristic solution procedure is proposed. The performance of the heuristic is compared with the Branch and Bound technique through randomly generated test problems. The computational results indicate that on the average the heuristic solutions deviate approximately 3.6% from the optimal solutions.
The objective of this study is to analyze the effects of increase in the oyster hatchery on fishermen's income. The results of the analysis are as follows : \circled1 The necessary quantities of oyster seed are 18,000 thousand hanging line. The 29.4%, of that has been applied by ana-seed collection and 29.1% of that has been applied by proseed collection. The demage of oyster aquaculture business is estimated about 35 billion won or 83 billion won. \circled2 The production cost per hanging line of the oyster hatchery is 1,974 won. And if it is sold by 2,500 won, return on investment will be 31.9%. Therefore profitability of the oyster hatchery is very good. \circled3 There are four important determinant variables of profitability to the oyster hatchery. In the order of their effects, it is operation number, seed price, production cost, and quantity of production. \circled4 If differences of price between the artificial hardening oyster seed and the natural hardening oyster seed are more less 1,430 won, the former is better. \circled5 The necessarily quantities of the oyster hatchery are estimated 160 units in the scale of 10,000 hanging line production to one operation. \circled6 The effect of increasing income of fishermen are estimated about 85.3 billion won or 124.5 billion won from increase in the oyster hatchery.
A mixed model production line is a production line where a variety of product models are produced. In U-shaped production lines (called U-lines) used in just-in-time production system, the strategy of mixing product models is often used to provide various types of products to customers in time. Line balancing and model sequencing problems are important for an efficient use of mixed model U-lines. Although the two problems are tightly interrelated with each other, prior researches have considered them separately or sequentially. This paper presents a new method using a coevolutionary algorithm that can solve the two problems at the same time. To promote diversity and search efficiency, in this paper the evolutionary system is based on the localized interactions within and between populations. Methods of selecting environmental individuals and evaluating fitness are developed. Efficient genetic representations and operator schemes are also provided. When designing the schemes, we take into account the features specific to the problems. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm is superior to existing approaches.
