This paper proposes a multi-level product modeling framework for long-term lifecycle products. The framework can help engineers to define product models and relate them to physical instances. The framework is defined in three levels; data, design model, modeling language. The data level represents real-world products, The model level describes design models of real-world products. The modeling language level defines concepts and relationships to describe product design models. The concepts and relationships in the modeling language level enable engineers to express the semantics of product models in an engineering-friendly way. The interactions between these three levels are explained to show how the framework can manage long-term lifecycle product information. A prototype system is provided for further understanding of the framework.

The process of generating basic modeling data in product design and production design is very important and it takes a lot of time to produce. To overcome these shortcomings, 3D scanning technology is emerging that can easily acquire modeling data. In this paper, we propose a technique to convert the image data from the image data to the modeling data after shooting the objects in the space, and generate the basic modeling data applicable to the product design. It also suggests ways to redirect and utilize the basic modeling data of the product.

Product modeling technology for graphics is rapidly developing. And 3D data application and usability are increasing.modeling of product design is a very important factor in constructing. 3D modeling in product design takes a lot of production time. Recently, the reverse design method is very useful because of application of 3D data and shortening of production time. In this study, first, 3D point cloud and mesh data are generated using photographs based on image data. The second is to modify the design and the third is to make the prototype with the 3D printer. This product design and production process suggests the utilization and possibility of image data, the shortening of 3D modeling production time and efficient processes. Also, the product design process proposes a model of a new product development system to adapt to the production environment.

A design process is difficult to describe comprehensively because a design problem has a multi-disciplinary nature and the design itself evolves as solutions are attempted by the designer. The process of design has been investigated in this paper with the purpose of characterizing the role that a system of this kind may have. In defining the system, an approach has been used that privileges the relationships with the existing CAD tools based on data exchange standards in course of definition today. Integrated design environment normally consists of a centralized data model a data management system and a set of CAD tools. In this study, all further investigations are directed towards the data management system, as one of the main components of the proposed environment. Moreover, product modeling, as a prerequisite for the data management core, is taken into special consideration.
Data sharing is a major challenge to implement CALS. STEP is the international standard for the product model data exchange among heterogeneous systems and plays a key role in CALS. Advances in computer networks are rapidly changing the product development processes. The network oriented modeling system premises to integrate design activities across the enterprise. To achieve goals of CALS 3-dimensional concurrent modeling that complies international standard is required since integrity and common perception of product data can be assured. This paper presents 3-dimensional concurrent geometric modeling on high speed network using STEP and methodologies.
To deliver new products to market in a due time, companies often develop their products with numerous partners distributed around the world. Internet technologies can provide a cheap and efficient basis of collaborative product development among distributed partners. This paper provides a framework and its product database model that can support consistent product data during collaborative product development. This framework consists of four components for representing consistent product structure: the product configuration, assembly structure, multiple representations and engineering changes. A product database model realizing the framework is designed and implemented as a system that supports collaborative works in the areas of product design and technical publication. The system enables participating designers and technical publishers to complete their tasks with shared and consistent product data. It also manages the propagation of engineering changes among different representations for individual participants. The Web technologies introduced in this system enable participants to easily access and operate shared product data in a standardized and distributed computing environment.
Data in one Product Model for shipbuilding is inevitably referenced and manipulated during each phase of design or production activities, and data or manipulation status naturally varies from the original with the advance of each activities. For Object-Oriented approach, it is hard to identify classes dealing with those variations, and even if once a product model is developed, it might be getting much harder to modify it to cope with a new additional phase of activities. This paper proposes an Instance-Oriented Modeling Method, temporarily named “Concept-Relationship Modeling Approach”, which handles Data structure and Behavior independently of each other in order to resolve the difficulties above.
Nowadays, there are many efforts to integrate CAD/CAM and other systems. The key of integration is engineering database implementation through the product data definition. In this paper, we suggest the product data definition and their properties for electronic consumer product throughout the requirement analysis for engineering database. Electronic consumer products include electric/electronic parts. as well as mechanical part which mainly compose of machinery. The paper is composed of three parts: the first is analysis about engineering data base. the second is understanding of product data structure and properties. and the last is modeling of product data including static and dynamic characteristics.
Present study introduces an implementation of product data management (PDM) that can be applied to the design of ship propulsion system. The PDM system is developed based on both object oriented software development environment and Open Scene Graph (OSG) library while the system architecture is modeled by the unified modeling language (UML). Suggested PDM system also integrates the modeling & simulation components required to estimate the performance of ship propulsion system as the product information is represented based on the 3-dimensional digital mock-up (DMU). Finally, functions of the implemented PDM system that is integrated with the M&S softwares are illustrated in order to suggest a practical guidance for the efficient design of ship propulsion system.
Given the huge number of data produced by its users, SNS is a great source of customer insights. Since viral trends in SNS reflect customers' direct feedback, companies can draw out highly meaningful business insights when such data is effectively analyzed and managed. However, while the importance of understanding SNS big data keeps growing, the methods for analyzing atypical data such as SNS postings for business insights over product has not been well studied. This study aims to demonstrate the way to exploit topic modeling method to support marketing strategy generation and therefore leverage business process. First, we conducted topic modeling analysis for twitter data of Apple and Samsung smartphones. Then we comparatively examined the analysis results to draw meaningful market insights about each smartphone product. Finally, we draw out a strategic marketing recommendation for each smartphone brand based on the findings.
