  • Variable sampling rate(VSR) scheme varies the sampling rate for the current sample depending on the previous value of the control statistic. In this paper, we propose EWMA control charts with variable parameter(VP) scheme, which allows both the sample rate(the sample size or the sampling interval) and the weight to vary. We investigate the effectiveness of the VP scheme relative to the fixed parameter(FP) scheme and the VSR scheme in EWMA control charts. It is shown that using the VP scheme gives some improvements to the ability in detecting small and moderate shifts in the process normal mean.

  • Situations where sample size is not constant are common when monitoring a process with Poisson count data. In this paper, we propose a generalized likelihood ratio(GLR) control chart to detect shifts in the Poisson rate when the sample size varies. The performance of the proposed GLR chart is compared with the performance of several cumulative sum(CUSUM) type charts. It is shown that the overall performance of the GLR chart is comparable with CUSUM type charts and is significantly better in cases where the actual value of the shift is different from the pre-specified value in CUSUM type charts.

  • Modern processes often monitor more than one quality characteristic that are referred to as multivariate statistical process control (MSPC) procedures. The MSPC is the most rapidly developing sector of statistical process control and increases interest in the simultaneous inspection of several related quality characteristics. Most multivariate detection procedures based on a multi-normality assumptions are independent, but there are many processes that assume non-normality and correlation. Many multivariate control charts have a lack of related joint distribution. Copulas are tool to construct multivariate modelling and formalizing the dependence structure between random variables and applied in several fields. From copula literature review, there are a few copula to apply in MSPC that have multivariate control charts, and represent a successful tool to identify an out-of-control process. This paper presents various types of copulas modelling for the multivariate control chart. The performance measures of the control chart are the average run length (ARL) and the average number of observations to signal (ANOS). Furthermore, a Monte Carlo simulation is shown when the observations were from an exponential distribution.

  • To decrease of deviations from target specifications and excessive variability around targe, we exclusively designed statistical process control system involving general manager and expert tool for cigarette manufacturing process. This system is a unique programming environment for the development of total process control software including various control charts according to data type and process capability analysis. Also this system includes the statistical analysis module to analyze defective causes immediately when inferior products are made and the module to offer regular reports. This system is customized considering the manufacture environment based on the opinions of workers.

  • Conventional SPC assumes that observations are independent. Often in industrial practice, however, observations are not independent. A common approach to building control charts for autocorrelated data is to apply conventional SPC to the residuals from a time series model of the process or is to apply conventional SPC to the weighted or unweighted subgroup means. In this paper, we propose a robust CUSUM control scheme for the detection of level change, without model identification or subgrouping of autocorrelated data. The proposed CUSUM chart and other conventional control charts are compared by a Monte Carlo simulation. It is shown that the proposed CUSUM chart is more effective than conventional CUSUM chart when the process is autocorrelated.

  • Statistical Process Control (SPC) is a set of methodologies for signaling the presence of undesired sources of variation in manufacturing processes. Expert System in SPC can serve as a valuable tool to automate the analysis and interpretation of control charts. In this paper we put forward a method of successful application of Expert System to SPC in manufacturing process.

  • Because of the equivalence between control chart procedures and hypothesis testing, we propose to use likelihood ratio test (LRT) statistic $Z_i^2$ as the multivariate control statistic for simultaneous monitoring means of the multivariate normal process. Properties and comparisons of the proposed control charts are explored and conducted for matched fixed sampling interval (FSI) and variable sampling interval (VSI) with two sampling interval charts. The result of numerical comparisons shows that EWMA chart with two sampling interval procedure is more efficient than the corresponding FSI chart for small or moderate changes. When large shift of the process has occurred, we also found that Shewhart chart is more efficient than EWMA chart.

  • Batch processes are a significant class of processes in the process industry and play an important role in the production of high quality speciality materials. Examples include the production of semiconductors, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and biochemicals. With on-line sensors connected to most batch processes, massive amounts of data are being collected routinely during the batch on easily measured process variables such as temperatures, pressures, and flowrates. In this paper, multivariate SPC charts for on-line monitoring of the progress of new batches are developed which utilize the information in the on-line measurements in real-time. We propose the formation of statistical model which describes the normal operation of a batch at each time interval during the batch operation. An on-line monitoring scheme based on the proposed method can handle both cross-correlation among process variables at any one time and auto-correlation over time. And the control limits for the monitoring charts are established from sound statistical framework unlike previous researches which use the external reference distribution. The proposed charts perform real-time, on-line monitoring to ensure that the batch is progressing in a manner that will lead to a high-quality product or to detect and indicate faults that can be corrected prior to completion of the batch. This approach is capable of tracking the progress of new batch runs, identifying the time periods in which the fault occurred and detecting underlying cause.

  • This paper proposes a method of designing one-sided cumulative scored control charts to control the process mean with a normally distributed quality characteristic. The average run length(ARL) is obtained from the average sample number of sequential probability ratio test(SPRT) on trinomial distribution. Using the analogy between cumulative scored control chart and SPRT for trinomial observations, a procedure is presented to determine three control chart parameters; lower and u, pp.r scoring boundaries and action limit. The parameters are determined by minimizing the ARL when the process is out of control with prespecified ARL when the process is in control.

  • $C_p$ and other process capability indices are used extensively in industry, However, They are inadequate and widely misused. In a practical application, process average ${\mu}$ is almost always drifted by various assignable causes in process. And control charts will not detect these shifts in process average. In this study, incorporating these undetected shifts, a new capability analysis method is introduced.
