Recent research has documented that there is a close relationship between problem posing and problem solving in arithmetic. However, most studies investigated the relationship between problem posing and problem solving only by means of standard problem situations. In order to overcome that shortcoming, a pilot study with Chinese fourth-graders was done to investigate this relationship using a non-standard, realistic problem situation. The results revealed a significant positive relationship between students' problem posing and solving abilities. Based on that pilot study, a more extensive and systematic ascertaining study was carried out to confirm the observed relationship between problem posing and problem solving among Chinese elementary school children. Results confirmed that there was indeed a close relationship between both skills.
The aims of this study are to develop a STEAM program focused on the appearances of birds' beaks and insectivorous plants and to identify its influence on elementary students' basic scientific process skills, creative problem solving ability and affective domain. For these objectives, the STEAM program was developed by reorganizing contents of the appearances of animals and plants in the units of 'Life of Animals' and 'Life of Plants' from 2009 revised national science curriculum for 3th and 4th grades. The developed STEAM program was applied to twenty nine 3th grade students of J elementary school located in S city. As a result of applying the STEAM program, the experimental group in this study showed significant improvements of the creative problem solving ability, scientific process skills and affective domain compared to the control group's scores. Therefore, development studies on STEAM programs integrated different science fields using animals and plants could be meaningful works to encourage elementary students' skills and interest.
Purpose: The study was done to evaluate the effects a Stress Management Program (SMP) on stress, problem solving skills, and quality of life for hospitalized patients with Schizophrenia. Methods: A mixed method design was used: a combination of a repeated-measure design with a non-equivalent control group and qualitative data collection. The participants were 40 patients with schizophrenia admitted in three psychiatric hospitals. The experimental group (n=20) received the SMP twice a week for a total of 8 weeks. Results: Study results revealed that the SMP was effective for stress (F=321.02, p<.001), problem solving ability (F=246.28, p<.001), and quality of life (F=63.35, p<.001) for hospitalized persons with schizophrenia. Conclusion: The results suggest that a SMP can be an effective strategy to reduce patients' hospitalization stress, and improve problem solving skills and quality of life. Therefore, it is recommended that mental health nurses use this stress management program in clinical practice to assist adaptation to hospitalization for persons with schizophrenia.
The aims of this study are to develop the STEAM program focused '3D printing for respiratory system' and to ascertain its influence on elementary student's science process skills, creative problem solving abilities and scientific interest. The developed STEAM program was applied to 5th grade students of O elementary school located in J city. As a result of applying the STEAM program, the experimental group of the STEAM program class improved significantly in creative problem solving abilities and scientific interest than the control group of the theoretical class. The result of learner satisfaction survey of the STEAM program was high. Meanwhile, there was no significant difference in science process skills between the two groups. Therefore, the STEAM program class with the theme of '3D printing for respiratory system' could be meaningful works to encourage students' interest as well as their creative problem solving ability and scientific interest. In future, continuous and systematic studies on STEAM programs focused on 'structure and function of our body' are needed for elementary students' cognitive and affective developments.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of an intravenous injection case-based clinical performance examination for improvement of problem-solving skill, nursing process application, nursing skill, and learning satisfaction. Method: This study's design was a randomized control group design. A total 93 students (experimental group, 49 control group, 44) who were junior nursing students in South Korea were included in this study. Data were collected from August 12th to 19th, 2010 and analyzed using SPSS 18.0. Result: The mean score of problem solving skills, intravenous injection skill, and learning satisfaction were significantly higher in the experimental group than the control group. However, the mean score of nursing process application was not significantly different between the two groups. Conclusion: These results indicate that the case-based clinical performance examination is effective for problem solving skill, nursing skill, and learning satisfaction. Therefore, it is recommended to adapt such teaching methods with integrated nursing practice education for various clinical skills development.
The purpose of this study is to investigate how to teach algorithms in mathematics class. Until recently, traditional school mathematics was primarily treated as drill and practice or memorizing of algorithmic skills. In an attempt to shift the focus and energies of mathematics teachers toward problem solving, conceptual understanding and the development of number sense, the recent reform recommendations do-emphasize algorithmic skills, in particular, paper-pencil algorithms. But the development of algorithmic thinking provides the foundation for student's mathematical power and confidence in their ability to do mathematics. Hence, for learning algorithms meaningfully, they should be taught with problem solving and conceptual understanding.
Objectives: This study aims to investigate and analyzed the priority of vocational core competency factors in dental hygienists in Gwangju. Methods: Expert survey was conducted and Analytic Hierarchy Process(AHP) was applied to evaluate the weighting factors. First, we established the vocational core competency defined in NCS as AHP analysis model. The vocational core competency has 10 categories and 34 sub-categories. Secondly, AHP survey was conducted by 195 dental hygienists in Gwangju. Finally, the weights representing relative importance of each factor were calculated by using AHP method. Results: The AHP analysis on 10 categories showed that the weighting of interpersonal skills(0.165) was higher than any other categories while that of numeracy(0.035) was at the bottom, and the analysis on sub-categories revealed that the most important factors in each categories included the teamwork skills(interpersonal skills), problem-solving capability(problem-solving skills), listening skills(communication skills), ethical community(professional ethics), ability to understand business(ability to understand organizational structure), applicable technical skills(technical skills), self-management skills(self-development capability), information processing capabilities(information capacity), ability to manage time(resource management capabilities) and basic math skills(numeracy). Conclusions: The results in this study can be used as basic data for the development of liberal arts curriculum for dental hygiene education.
Amonng many creative problem-solving methodologies, the TRIZ with practicality and applicability has been utilized a lot in practice and education. This research introduced the TRIZ course for engineering problem-solving training to engineering college students. Then, a survey about students' ability to solve engineering problems after the TRIZ course were analyzed statistically. Finally, problem-solving cases of industry in each team project were examined. It is proved that an understanding of the TRIZ should be confirmed on that can be applied and utilized and can be linked to well performing team projects. Therefore, it is determined that more active efforts are required for the development of TRIZ learing methods to improve the education system to help students improve comprehension for students in creative problem-solving skills.

The aim of software education is to increase students' Computational Thinking(CT) skills that they can compose problems and provide solutions which can be carried out effectively by information-processing systems. Furthermore, if problem solving situations can provide students with meaningful problem solving opportunities in authentic social contexts, then software education would be more valuable. This study pursued educational robot-based SW convergence education where 4th grade primary students have access to tangible outputs and can engage in authentic problem solving situations working with peers by using robots and programming. In addition, this study investigated the effectiveness of the classes in terms of computational thinking skills and social capabilities(collaborative skills and communication skills). The current study provides educational robot-based SW convergence education cases of a primary school and discusses the effectiveness of the classes in terms of students' computational thinking skills and social capabilities.
