  • The goal of this study is to investigate the current status of implementation of convergence education in elementary, middle, and high schools. A survey was conducted on 871 in-service teachers nationwide, and frequency analysis was conducted by school level. Key findings are as follows: first, 449 (51.5%) are found to practice convergence education. Second, the reason for implementing convergence education is the voluntary effort of teachers and the educational necessity for the future society. Third, it was found that convergence education is being implemented centered on science, arts, and social studies as a link between subjects in regular curriculum hours. Fourth, 270 (64%) of teachers who implemented convergence education in response to COVID-19 performed online convergence education, and experienced difficulties in creating class materials and communicating with students. Fifth, the excessive work of teachers, insufficient support for teacher training and research group activities, and lack of various convergence education programs are suggested as reasons for not implementing convergence education. This study hopes to provide implications for policy and implementation for revitalizing convergence education.

  • The Korean National Commission for Unesco has helped Korean Unesco Associated Schools undertake environmental studies within the framework of education for international understanding, cooperation and peace from 1991 - 1993. The environmental studies enjoyed participation by nine Associated Schools among 35 throughout the country, with each school on a different theme each year. Environmental studies by the Unesco Associated Schools are differentiated from those by the former continues to work on environmental or Provincial Boards of Education. The former continues to work on environmental education, longer than 1 - 2 years, and they can also capitalize on the international networks of the ASP, which may be instrumental to understanding the worldwide nature of the environmental issues these days. This paper contains a breif explanation of the cases of environmental studies by level of education from primary to teacher education level. It is argued that through the study, the students of Unesco Associated Schools well recognize the seriousness of environmental problems facing mankind and will have positive attitudes and values towards the preservation of our environment. It is also argued that the studies result in a variety of useful teaching/learning methods for environmental education: students visit to polluted areas. survey, composition of works with environmental themes such as posters, poems, organization of discussion by the students on environmental problems, exhibition, international correspondence, etc. The studies also have produced various helpful reaching/learning materials : photos, slides, scrapbooks of articles on environmental issues from newspapers, etc. However, several problems also emerged through the studies. A few of them are described here ; First, focus on the extra-curricula activity rather than regular curricula results in the neglect of the knowledge base of environmental education. Second, only a part of the all 35 Associated Schools have participated in the project. Third, primary and first secondary students have difficulty in using foreign language which is vital for international activities.

  • The 7th national curriculum requires the paradigmatic shift in education from teacher-centered to student-centered instruction. But, teachers beliefs on instruction have not been changed during implementing of the mathematics textbooks based on the curriculum. More exactly speaking, they are changed very slowly. Therefore, some beliefs they should establish in order for them to implement it were discussed: Perspectives of students' intelligent ability, learning goal for the every lesson, the passibility of teaching contents involved in the national curriculum, the size of classroom, and students' achievements.

  • In 1904, Albrecht first used the term "hamartoma" to refer to a congenital abnormal mixing of the normal components of an organ and is applied also to tumors found in many organs other than the lung. Though the term "hamartoma" of the lung have been used with the connection to the presence of cartilage, tumors that do not contain cartilagenous compont is also considered hamartoma. The authors experienced one case of endobronchial hamartoma. The patient, a 42-year-old woman, a teacher in a primary school, was admitted to our hospital with frequent attacks of hemoptysis. Bronchogram on the left disclosed abrupt blocking of bronchial filling at the bifurcation between postero-basal and lateral basal segmental bronchial substantiating a mass in the bronchial lumen. Left lower lobectomy was performed. The answer of pathology was benign endobronchial hamartoma. Postoperative course was uneventful. Discharged on 19th postoperative day.

  • In modern theory, creativity is an aim of mathematics education not only for the gifted but also fur the general students. The assertion that we must cultivate the creativity for the gifted students and drill the mechanical activity for the general students are unreasonable. Freudenthal has advocated the reinvention method, a pedagogical principle in mathematics education, which would promote the creativity. In this method, the pupils start with a meaningful context, not ready-made concepts, and invent informative method through which he could arrive at the formative concepts progressively. In many face the reinvention method is contrary to the traditional method. In traditional method, which was named as 'concretization method' by Freudenthal, the pupils start with ready-made concepts, and applicate this concepts to various instances through which he could arrive at the understanding progressively. Freudenthal believed that the mathematical creativity could not be cultivated through the concretization method in which the teacher transmit a ready-made concept to the pupils. In the article, we close examined the reinvention method, and presented a context of delivery route which is a illustration of reinvention method. Through that context, the principle of pascal's triangle is reinvented progressively.

  • The purpose of this study is to find out what mathematical situation means, how to pose a meaningful situation and how situation-centered teaching could be done. The obtained informations will help learners to improve their math abilities. A survey was done to investigate teachers' perception on teaching-learning in mathematics by elementary teachers. The result showed that students had to find solutions of the textbook problems accurately in the math classes, calculated many problems for the class time and disliked mathematics. We define mathematical situation. It is artificially scene that emphasize the process of learners doing mathematizing from physical world to identical world. When teacher poses and expresses mathematical situation, learners know mathematical concepts through the process of mathematizing in the mathematical situation. Mathematical situation contains many concepts and happens in real life. Learners act with real things or models in the mathematical situation. Mathematical situation can be posed by 5 steps(learners' environment investigation step, mathematical knowledge investigation step, mathematical situation development step, adaption step and reflection step). Situation-centered teaching enhances mathematical connections, arises learners' interest and develops the ability of doing mathematics. Therefore teachers have to reform textbook based on connections of mathematics, other subject and real life, math curriculum, learners' level, learners' experience, learners' interest and so on.

  • Education emphasizes problem-solving skills based on convergent thinking power in an era of rising uncertainty and rapid progress. This paper proactively designed e-Learning team teaching convergence liberal arts courses for prospective teachers by these social needs. It analyzed the empirical effects on the operation of the subjects to foster future talent who can converge and apply knowledge in various fields. The curriculum consisted of professors of mathematics, practical Arts, computer, and education, and was operated to convey convergent knowledge of information technology and humanities, and consisted of 15 liberal arts courses at J University. Besides, textbooks and teaching materials were also developed by the faculty. As a result of the primary research, prospective teachers who took the course generally showed high satisfaction with the class, especially for the faculty. The students' overall convergent thinking ability has increased to a statistically significant level (p<.01), and the students' major has been found to be irrelevant. On the other hand, it can be seen that communication, content convergence, and caring factors, excluding creativity factor, have all risen to a significant level.

  • The amount of wood waste from furniture production is increasing. Wood waste is diverse and ranges from wood-splitting residues to leftovers from furniture production. Wood waste occurs in companies, household-based industries, and other forms of business where waste accumulates; therefore, an environmental and ethical policy is needed. The aim of this study was to identify products created using wood waste and describe government regulations related to environmental policies. We analyzed the management of wood waste for use as a new product so that it is useful, does not become waste, and complies with policies related to environmental ethics. A case study design using qualitative methods was used. This research focused on managing wood waste in Jepara's furniture and crafts industry for the 2010-2021 period, using 23 sources from primary, secondary, and other supporting documents. Data were collected through observation or gathering information related to research needs, conducting closed-door interviews with research sources, documenting data to strengthen research findings, and using online questionnaires to corroborate information related to wood waste management. This article presents wood waste products designed with optimized environmental ethics and awareness of environmental laws in wood-based industries.
