Educational Articulation Between Kindergarten and Primary School : Perceptions of Teachers and Mothers (유·초 연계교육에 대한 교사와 학부모의 신념, 지식 및 실제 간의 차이)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate whether there are any differences among kindergarten teachers', primary school teachers', and children's mothers's perceptions-belief, knowledge, practice-about the educational articulation between kindergarten and primary school. The results of this study were as follows; First, there were differences among kindergarten teachers, primary school teachers, and mothers about the belief of articulation content. Second, in the knowledge of educational articulation, kindergarten teachers's understandings of the counterpart's curriculum were higher than that of primary school teachers's. Third, in the practice of educational articulation, kindergarten teachers and mothers were focused language and mathematics learning for educational articulation. But primary school teachers were focused school adjustment.

Reflections on the Primary School Mathematics Curriculum in the Netherlands - Focused on Number and Operations Strand - (네덜란드의 초등 수학 교육과정에 대한 개관 - 자연수와 연산 영역을 중심으로 -)

  • The study aims to get real picture of primary mathematics education based on RME in the Netherlands focusing on number and operations strand by reflecting and analyzing the documents in relation to the primary school mathematics curriculum. In order to attain these purposes, the present paper describes the core goals for mathematics education, Dutch Pluspunt textbook series for the primary school, and a learning-teaching trajectory by TAL project which are determinants of the Dutch primary school mathematics curriculum. Under these reflections on the documents, it is analyzed what is the characteristics of number and operations strand in the Nether-lands as follows: counting numbers, contextualization, positioning, structuring, progressive algoritmization based on levels, estimation and insightful use of a calculator. Finally, discussing Points for improving our primary mathematics curriculum and textbook series development are described.

A Research on the Successful Introduction Strategy for SW Education in K-12 focusing on the Perceptions of K-12 Students and Teachers on SW Education (초·중등학교에서 성공적인 SW교육 정착을 위한 방안 모색 - 초중등 학생 및 교사의 SW교육에 대한 인식을 중점으로 -)

  • In this study, the perceptions on SW education of K-12 students and teachers were surveyed and analyzed. At the primary school level, there was no significant difference in SW attitude based on school location. However, at the secondary level, students from metropolitan areas showed significantly higher SW attitude scores. In the case of gender, male students showed higher SW attitude scores both in primary and secondary schools. With regard to attitude differences based on prior experience of SW education, students with prior experience showed higher attitude scores in SW education in both primary and secondary schools. The awareness survey among teachers showed that both primary and secondary school teachers showed positive responses to SW education. For the successful induction of the SW education at K-12, four factors (participants, curriculum, teaching-learning method, and support from inside and outside of school) were highlighted.

Primary school teacher recognition for distance learning due to COVID-19 - Focusing on science classes - (COVID-19 상황에서 온라인 비대면 수업에 대한 초등교사의 인식 - 과학교과를 중심으로 -)

  • The crisis of the COVID-19 pandemic has caused significant changes in education systems worldwide, including in Korea. Due to COVID-19's social distancing policies, the education system was suddenly switched to distance learning, resulting in many problems in primary schools without preparation. The purpose of this study was to investigate a teacher's awareness of science education techniques, responses to issues in science classes, including inquiry activities, advantages and disadvantages, and roles after experiencing distance learning. Survey and focus interviews were conducted for primary school teachers who had previously participated in distance learning, such as online content classes and real-time interactive classes. The study findings showed three conclusions: 1) Primary school teachers conducted one-way and interactive lectures in online classes. It is vital to improve a teacher's digital literacy to improve other teaching methods such as investigation and discussion in online classes. 2) Primary school teachers acknowledged the challenges of field feedback, inquiry item preparations, and safety in inquiry activities of science classes, by providing individual experimental packages and videos and using online discussion and feedback among teacher - student and student - student interactions. 3) Primary school teachers recognized that various types of classes using IT devices and individualized learning were possible as advantages of distance learning. As for disadvantages, it was acknowledged that inquiry activities, cooperative learning, immediate feedback, and interaction among students were challenging. Furthermore, learning gaps were wider in distance learning.

Educational Needs of Drinking Prevention for Primary School Students (초등학생의 음주예방교육 요구)

  • Purpose: To provide basic data for developing problematic drinking prevention problem through the investigation of the educational needs on drinking of primary students. Method: Subjects were 630 fourth, fifth, and sixth grades in 5 primary schools in Seoul. Data were collected from November to December 2000 by using structured questionnaire. Result: 1) Among the students under inquiry, 41.2% answered the had educational need about drinking. Educational need about drinking was significantly higher in the students with higher mothers educational level than those of with lower ones. 2) With regard to the appropriate class in providing education, 37.3% selected normal class education. 47.3% of the respondents said experiments would be the most effective education method. 61.8% of the students picked school nurses as the most appropriate person in carrying out the education. As for the most effective media for education, 40.3% chose video/television. The most concerning topic was academic achievement with 51.9% of the surveyed. As for the rate of preference in methods of drinking prevention education, Significant differences were shown in the class, teaching method, instructor, media, memory of education and concerning topic according to the gender. Conclusion: The results of the finding suggest that the various programs of drinking prevention education for the primary students should be developed with consider the difference of preference by the grade and the gender.

Evaluation of Bilingual Mathematics Learning of Mongolian Students in China

  • This paper is devoted to evaluate the effect of bilingual mathematics learning of Mongolian students in the primary school of Inner Mongolia. The study used tests and examined 305 Mongolian students' math achievement from Mongolian school and 277 Mongolian students from Mongolian and Han mixed school, at the same time 301 students from Guangxi regular primary school for comparison. Multivariate statistical analysis shows that there is no significant difference between these students. The results showed that the implementation of bilingual mathematics education in Inner Mongolia have achieved the desired effect. The reasons leading to the observed results are analyzed. There is a long history of bilingual education in Inner Mongolia, so the bilingual education system is complete, and the bilingual teaching resources are relatively abundant, especially the mathematics term translation between Mongolian and Chinese is standardized and unified.

  • The purpose of the study was to investigate attitudes toward to, values and expectations of environmental education of Korean students and teachers and to provide basic data and reference materials needed to development of environmental education curricula for primary and secondary schools. A review of the related literature, a series of conferences with teachers and specialists in environmental education and environmental sciences. and questionnaire survey were methods employed in this study. Survey question were developed to explore attitude and responses of primary and secondary school students and teachers on various types of issues and problems of environmental education at personal level as well as on their future prospects attitudes values and expectations with which had been dealt in this study were categorized into personal feeling on environmental issues and problems at both national and regional levels issues and problems of current environmental education pre service and in service training of teachers for environmental education instruction and so on. The sample population for the survey was selected by using the stratified cluster and random sampling techniques with respect to regional area, school level, sex and grade, The subjects used in this study were 1,633 students and 385 teachers of primary and secondary schools across the country. The results of the survey were summed up and recommendations to be considered in the revision of sixth national curricula for primary and secondary schools were also suggested.

The Effects of BLS Training on CPR Attitudes of Primary School Students (기본 심폐소생술 교육이 초등학생의 심폐소생술 태도에 미치는 효과)

  • Purpose: In order to elucidate the effects of BLS (Basic Life Support) education for primary students, we analyzed data collected using a questionnaire on attitude toward CPR. Methods: Students were divided into two groups, the experimental group with BLS education and the control group without BLS education. Data was collected after BLS education for the experimental group. While they were learning BLS, the control group completed the questionnaire. Results: There were significant statistical differences in the total score of students' attitudes. The students in the experimental group indicated a more positive attitude toward CPR than the others. Conclusion: This study showed that BLS education had a positive influence on elementary students' attitudes toward CPR. We expect that the result will contribute to the spread of CPR and the reduction of mortality.

The Status and Attitudes on Drug Abuse in Primary School Students (초등학교 학생의 약물남용에 대한 실태와 태도)

  • The purpose of this study was to find out the status of and attitudes on drug abuse in primary school students, to provide basic data for preventing the youth from their drug abuse and contributing to improve their health. 36.0% of the students had an experience of the education to prevent from drug abuse, the students wanted to have an education on drug abuse in primary school, 71% of the subjects preferred to school nurses as the education about drug abuse, and 2.9% of the students show their intention to use drug when their friends recommend to take drug. For the experience of drinking, there was a significant difference to the degree of satisfaction at their school($x^2$=23.29, p=.001), their association with father's smoking ($x^2$=13.16, p=.001), and mother's ($x^2$=5.60, p=.018) smoking. The experience of drinking showed no significant differences according to the grade and the experience of prevention education on drug abuse. Attitudes on drug abuse according to the general characteristics showed significant differences according to the grade (t=4.10, p=.007), the degree of satisfaction at the school(t=8.86, p=.000), their association with any father's drinking(t=3.18, p=.002) and mother's(t=5.23, p=.000), father's smoking(t=3.21, p=.001) and mother's(t=31.87, p=.000), the state of drug use during the pain(t=7.18, p=.000).

The Suggestions for the Minimization of Safety Accidents in the Primary Science Experiments (초등학교 과학 실험에서의 안전사고 최소화 방안)

  • This study examined the dangerous elements in primary science textbooks and had some suggestions for the minimization of safety accidents in the science class experiments. The research results are as follows: 1) The rate of accident in the primary science experiments was not high, but potential for the outbreak of safety accidents was always present. 2) it is necessary to include safety contents on science textbooks. The survey revealed that only 18 percent of safety education materials include on science textbooks. 3) It will be desirable for science experiment lessons to include safety education materials for safety experiments. This could also help the students develop the right recognition and attitude regarding safety. 4) There was lack of safety devices those were required to be kept at science labs. The survey showed that about 20 percent of the schools had the experimental clothing. 5) Safety training is often conducted in an overly simplified manner, and no special time is allocated to it. In conclusion, to improve the problems pertaining to school safety accident, courses on safety training are essential as textbooks and teachers. Constant and systematic instructions on safety should be done in order to prevent potential safety accidents.
