A new ionic liquid functionalized magnetic silica nanoparticle was synthesized and characterized and tested as an adsorbent. The adsorbent was used for magnetic solid phase extraction on ICP-MS method. Simultaneous determination of precious metal Au has been addressed. The method is simple and fast and has been applied to standard water and surface water analysis. A new method for separation/analysis of trace precious metal Au by Magnetron Solid Phase Extraction (MSPE) combined with ICP-MS. The element to be tested is rapidly adsorbed on CoFe2O4@SiO2@[BMIM]PF6 composite nano-adsorbent and eluted with thiourea. The method has a preconcentration factor of 9.5-fold. This method has been successfully applied to the determination of gold in actual water samples. Hydrophobic Ionic Liquids (ILs) 1-butyl-3-methylimidazole hexafluorophosphate ([BMIM]PF6) coated CoFe2O4@SiO2 nanoparticles with core-shell structure to prepare magnetic solid phase extraction agent (CoFe2O4@SiO2@ILs) and establish a new method of MSPE coupled with inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry for separation/analysis of trace gold. The results showed that trace gold was adsorbed rapidly by CoFe2O4@SiO2@[BMIM]PF6 and eluanted by thiourea. Under the optimal conditions, preconcentration factor of the proposed method was 9.5-fold. The linear range, detection limit, correlation coefficient (R) and relative standard deviation (RSD) were found to be 0.01~1000.00 ng·mL-1, 0.001 ng·mL-1, 0.9990 and 3.4% (n = 11, c = 4.5 ng·mL-1). The CoFe2O4@SiO2 nanoparticles could be used repeatedly for 8 times. This proposed method has been successfully applied to the determination of trace gold in water samples.
Global warming is getting worse since a dramatic increase in greenhouse gas emissions recently. As a result, the necessity and implementation of carbon neutrality is required more urgently. To do this, among various new and renewable energies, attention in hydrogen arises. Hydrogen as a carbon-free power source is an abundant resource on Earth and is eco-friendly. Eventually, perfectly eco-friendly hydrogen can be obtained through electrolysis of water. However, the catalyst used in the oxygen evolution reaction is rare and expensive, and has a durability issue. Consequently, the development of a non-precious metal catalyst is necessary. In this review paper, we summarize and introduce Co- and Mo- based catalysts among recently announced oxygen evolution catalysts. This will help understand the design of catalyst to increase the activity and durability of non-precious metal catalysts.
Purpose: This study examined the corrosion level by alloy type and pH, and used the corrosion levels as the dental health data. The study utilized one Ni-Cr alloy for the full and removable partial denture metal frameworks and two Ni-Cr alloys for porcelain-fused-to-metal crown, among the non-beryllium dental casting non-precious Ni-Cr alloys. Methods: The alloy specimens were manufactured in $10cm^2$ and stored in the corrosive solution(pH 2.2-4.4) in the electrical water bath($37^{\circ}C$) for seven days. Afterwards, the metal ions were quantitatively analyzed using the ICP. Results: Of the three metal alloys, Bellabond-Plus$^{(R)}$alloy and SOLIBOND N$^{(R)}$alloy, with 22% or higher chrome chemical contents, had higher corrosion resistance than Jdium-100$^{(R)}$alloy with 20% chrome chemical content. In all three alloys, the corrosion of Ni was highest, and metal ion corrosion was higher in the pH 2.2 corrosive solution. Conclusion: Although Ni-Cr alloy was not very corrosive, a Ni-allergic patient should not have Ni-Cr alloy prosthesis. The Ni-Cr alloy for porcelain-fused-to-metal crown should be designed for the dental porcelain to cover the whole crown.
PURPOSE. The purpose of this study was to compare the fracture strength of the metal and the bond strength in metal-ceramic restorations produced by selective laser sintering (SLS) and by conventional casting (CAST). MATERIALS AND METHODS. Non-precious alloy (StarLoy C, DeguDent, Hanau, Germany) was used in CAST group and metal powder (SP2, EOS GmbH, Munich, Germany) in SLS group. Metal specimens in the form of sheets ($25.0{\times}3.0{\times}0.5mm$) were produced in accordance with ISO 9693:1999 standards (n=30). To measure the bond strength, ceramic was fired on a metal specimen and then three-point bending test was performed. In addition, the metal fracture strength was measured by continuing the application of the load. The values were statistically analyzed by performing independent t-tests (${\alpha}=.05$). RESULTS. The mean bond strength of the SLS group (50.60 MPa) was higher than that of the CAST group (46.29 MPa), but there was no statistically significant difference. The metal fracture strength of the SLS group (1087.2 MPa) was lower than that of the CAST group (2399.1 MPa), and this difference was statistically significant. CONCLUSION. In conclusion the balling phenomenon and the gap formation of the SLS process may increase the metal-ceramic bond strength.

Tantalum oxide thin filme has an amorphous structure and a high resistivity. Its stoichiometric structure was $Ta_2O_{5.3}$ and the transmission ratio was 80%. The high resistivity of $Ta_2O_{5.3}$ thin film electrolyte made an EC windows without electrical shottness, but the bleached/colored cur rent was very low because of the low ion conductivith. Upon adding moisture into the system, the $\Delta$T increased upto 25 %. proton concentration increase was the main cases to improve optical property. The influence of adding precious or transition metal film(~100 $\AA$ thickness) in $Ta_2O_5$layer on the color change performance was observed. The metal insertion layers had formed hydroxide and they behaved as a stable proton source. The transmission diffrnece and cycle life were greatly enhanced in the case of Ti inssertion. The $\Delta$T was 50% and the cycle life was 18, 000.
This study compared and analyzed changes to the mechanical characteristics to nonprecious metal alloy for porcelain fused to metal crowns when it's repetitively used without the addition of new alloy. Metal samples were made with the Verabond V nonprecious metal alloy. Those samples to measure tensile and yield strength were made in the standardized design(ISO 22674), those to measure bond strength in the $25mm{\times}3mm{\times}0.5mm$ format, and those to measure hardness in the $10mm{\times}10mm{\times}1mm$ format. A ceramic to measure bond strength was made at the center of the metal sample in the length of $8{\ss}{\AE}$ by using Noritaker Super Porcelain EX-3. Ten samples were prepared for one, three and five repetitions of casting each. The test results were as follows: 1. The more casting was repeated, the more significantly tensile strength dropped. 2. The more casting was repeated, the more significantly yield strength dropped. 3. Repetitive casting didn't cause significant changes to bond strength. 4. The Vickers hardness significantly fell with increasing repetitions of casting. There were no changes to bond strength observed with the increasing number of repeating casting. But tensile strength, yield strength, and Vickers hardness decreased. Those results indicate that repeated casting can affect durability and that careful attention should be paid by avoiding repetitive use or excessive increase of uses when no new alloy is added.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect retention element formed by metal surface treatment method on the bond strength of indirect composite resin and metal. The metal specimens were cast from Ni-Cr alloy($Rexillium^{(R)}$ III). They were divided into 5 groups by applied retention element: $50{\mu}m$ aluminium oxide sandblasting group, $250{\mu}m$ aluminium oxide sandblasting group, 0.2mm retention crystal group, 10% $H_{2}SO_{4}$ solution etching group, $110{\mu}m$$Rocatec^{TM}$ Plus system group. Total 50 metal specimens were veneered with Sinfony indirect composite resin system. Specimens were tested for shear bond strength on an Instron universal testing machine and fracture mode of fractured specimens were analyzed by SEM and EDS. 1. 0.2 mm retention crystals were most effective in improving the resin-metal shear bond strength (p<0.05). 2. Sandblasting by $250{\mu}m$ aluminium oxide were more effective than sandblasting by $50{\mu}m$ aluminium oxide in improving the resin-metal shear bond strength(p<0.05). 3. Fracture mode of resin-metal fractured surface were cohesive failure mode in 0.2mm retention crystal, mixed failure mode in sandblasted specimens, etched specimens and the specimens sandblasted with $110{\mu}m$$Rocatec^{TM}$ Plus system.

The difference of castability between sankin CB80 metal and C & B alloy was statistically significant (p < 0.01) and the difference of castability among the test groups, was statistically significant (p <0.01). 2. In the case of sankin C.B 80 metal, the difference of castability among the New alloy and first mixed alloy and second mixed alloy and old alloy was not significant statistically (p >0.05). 3. In the case of C & B alloy, the difference of castability among the New alloy and mixed alloys and old alloy, was not significant statistically (p >0.05). 4. The difference of hardness between sankin C & B alloy was not significant statistically (p >0.05), but the difference of hardness among the test groups was statistically significant (p <0.01). 5. In the case of Sankin C.B 80 metal, the difference of hardness among the new ally and mixed alloys and old alloy was not significant statistically (p >0.05). 6. In the case of C & B alloy, the difference of hardness between New alloy and mixed alloys was not significant statistically (p >0.05) but the difference of hardness among the old alloy and New alloy and mixed alloys was statistically significant (p <0.01).
Mobile phone has become one of the essential items in our daily life. In Korea, it is estimated that more than 20 million cell phones are discarded each year due to advancement in technology, thus creating disposal and environmental pollution. In order to conserve the resources, their proper recycling is essential as it contains both valuable and toxic metals. The economics of the recycling will depend on the amount and value of the metals. Therefore, it is necessary to determine the composition of the metals present in the different cell phones. In the present study, a report is presented on the variation of metal content per year of waste mobile phones. A review has been made for the mobile phones manufactured during the period 2000-2009 and metal content of the printed circuit boards (PCBs) by analyzing their metals. An example of the precious metal palladium and of the heavy metal lead shows the decreasing trend.
PURPOSE. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of two different metal conditioners for non-precious metal alloys for the bonding of porcelain to a cobalt-chromium (Co-Cr) alloy. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Disk-shaped specimens ($2.5{\times}10.0mm$) were cast with Co-Cr alloy and used as adherend materials. The bonding surfaces were polished with a 600-grid silicon carbide paper and airborne-particle abraded using $110{\mu}m$ alumina particles. Bonding specimens were fabricated by applying and firing either of the metal conditioners on the airborne-particle abraded surface, followed by firing porcelain into 5 mm in diameter and 3 mm in height. Specimens without metal conditioner were also fabricated. Shear bond strength for each group (n=8) were measured and compared (${\alpha}=.05$). Sectional view of bonding interface was observed by SEM. EDS analysis was performed to determine the chemical elements of metal conditioners and to determine the failure modes after shear test. RESULTS. There were significant differences among three groups, and two metal conditioner-applied groups showed significantly higher values compared to the non-metal conditioner group. The SEM observation of the sectional view at bonding interface revealed loose contact at porcelain-alloy surface for non-metal conditioner group, however, close contact at both alloy-metal conditioner and metal conditioner-porcelain interfaces for both metal conditioner-applied groups. All the specimens showed mixed failures. EDS analysis showed that one metal conditioner was Si-based material, and another was Ti-based material. Si-based metal conditioner showed higher bond strengths compared to the Ti-based metal conditioner, but exhibited more porous failure surface failure. CONCLUSION. Based on the results of this study, it can be stated that the application of metal conditioner is recommended for the bonding of porcelain to cobalt-chromium alloys.
