  • This study examined the conception types of high school students, chemistry teachers, and pre-service teachers about the salt bridge in Daniel cell by a questionnaire and follow-up interviews. High school chemistry II textbooks were analyzed for finding the cause of the understanding difficulties of the teachers and students. Pre-service teachers' thoughts examined for the problems of pre-service teacher programs. From the analysis, it was found that teachers only thought that the role of salt bridge is for ion movement of two solutions involving electrodes. But they didn't have the conception that salt bridge has a roll of connection a circuit. This result was similar to students' and pre-service teachers' results. It was possible that insufficient and different explanations of the textbooks were attributed the teachers' and students' conceptual difficulties.

  • In this study, pre-service teachers who would be mathematics teachers of secondary school wrote the journal about learning mathematics. Journal writing helped pre-service teachers' math learning. Pre-service teachers could think mathematics reflectively, inquire it, represent their affectivity, plan the self-directed learning, and have the records of learning. They considered the educational issues as instructional methods, organization and management of instruction, assessment, and attitude of teacher. As well, they thought that journal writing was important in learning mathematics and how they would apply their students. Journal writing was meaningful to pre-service teacher education in cognitive and situative aspects.

  • This study aims to investigate reflections of secondary pre-service mathematics teachers and their changes through practicing as assistant teacher in mathematics classrooms. For the purpose of this study, research questions are addressed on the reflections and their changes. During the 2015 Spring semester, secondary pre-service mathematics teachers took a course related to working as assistant teachers in regular mathematics lessons in a middle school. This study selected cases of two pre-service teachers. The data such as reports on their practices and final meeting report with teachers were collected during the semester. The results showed that the secondary pre-service mathematics teachers reflected teachers, students, mathematics contents, and themselves in their reports. In addition, each participant showed different contents of reflections. This difference implied that secondary pre-service mathematics teachers could have different reflections according to the types of lessons that they participated in.

  • The purposes of this study were to investigate pre-service mathematics teachers' perceptions of the role of cooperating teachers and teacher interactions during teaching practicum. Thirty-four pre-service mathematics teachers who finished student teaching participated in the study. The researcher collected data from various sources such as a questionnaire, interviews, and written documents. According to the results of the study, more than 50 percent of the participants showed negative responses to all of the questionnaire items on teaching activities or guidance of cooperating teachers. Cooperating teachers mainly played a role in the stage of reflection of student teacher's teaching practice, and they provided specific feedback and guidance of teaching and learning methods and contents. Cooperating teachers played roles as (mathematics) teacher educators, classroom observers, and co-teachers, but their roles as teacher educators or co-teachers should be more stressed for pre-service mathematics teachers' professional development.

  • In this study, we proposed a pre-service teacher training program that assists efficiently the conceptual comprehension and teaching skill development of computer science education. The program is integrated with Protype Theory and Example Theory based on cognitive psychology. And also the real teaching activities based on Unplugged Learning are provided for conceptual comprehension of computer science education as well as for learning computer science. This program was applied to 31 pre-service teachers for one semester. The results show that this program is very effective for pre-service teacher training of computer science education.

  • The purposes of the study were to analyze pre-service mathematics teachers' MKT and to examine the perceptions of MKT to find implications for the improvement of pre-service mathematics teacher education program in the aspect of teachers' content knowledge. Twenty-six pre-service mathematics teachers participated in the survey to examine the perceptions of MKT and they also finished two MKT tasks which focused on a specific area of middle school geometry. According to the survey results, the participants thought that they have enough knowledge in all categories of MKT except KCT-2 and they appreciated the importance of MKT education in pre-service mathematics teacher education program. However, the participants showed difficulties in MKT task items which required SCK, KCS, KCT, especially, the proportions of those who showed appropriate knowledge on the items required SCK and KCT was less than 50%. These results show disagreement between the perceptions of pre-service mathematics teachers' MKT and practice of MKT.

  • This study analyzed the perception of prospective elementary school teachers in relation to using the history of Korean mathematics. The results of this study showed that the pre-service teachers realized using the history of Korean mathematics more importantly than the history of mathematics. They thought that the contents of the history of Korean mathematics should be increased in mathematics education and pre-service teacher education. The participation experience in teacher education about the history of Korean mathematics had a positive effect on the perception of pre-service teachers. Finally, this paper asserted that teacher education is the key to the teacher perception on and using of the history of Korean mathematics.

  • This study conducted a survey to examine the knowledge formation and utilization of computer among beginning teachers of secondary school mathematics. We found that beginning teachers who had more experiences of taking computer utilization classes at teacher education institutes showed more interest in computer and saw the necessity and effectiveness of computer usage for teaching students. Teachers chose GSP the most among computer utilization knowledge learned in pre-service teachers program, and GSP is used the most in mathematics classes. However, they answered that computer is not so much available in class due to lack of hours and the relevant resources. Lastly, beginning teachers answered that the computer knowledge learned in in-service teacher program was more useful than that in pre-service. Thus, the professional development in utilizing computer should be improved through diversifying teacher training contents for beginning teachers as well as for pre-service teachers in teacher education institutes.
