  • In this study, a mathematical model fur analyzing the shift characteristics is proposed. The proposed model comprises power transmission system and vehicle system, which are coupled. And On-road car test is carried out in order to extract model parameters. Tile model is composed of a detailed powertrain, an engine/AT housing, a simplified suspension system. tires and a vehicle body model. On the test, the vehicle accelerations and pitch ratio are measured by using accelerometers and gyro sensor. The other data, for example speeds, a throttle position and a brake signal, are taken from sensors which already exist in the vehicle. Using natural frequency and characteristic equation, vehicle model parameters are extracted from experimental data.

  • In this paper, an engine-CVT integrated control algorithm is suggested by considering the inertia torque and the CVT ratio change response lag in acceleration. In order to compensate for drive torque time delay due to CVT response lag, two algorithms are presented: (1) an optimal engine torque compensation algorithm, and (2) an optimal engine speed compensation algorithm. Simulation results show that the optimal engine speed compensation algorithm gives better engine operation around the optimal operation point compared to the optimal torque compensation while showing nearly the same acceleration response. The performance of the proposed engine-CVT integrated control algorithms are compared with those of conventional CVT control, and It is found that optimal engine operation can be achieved by using integrated control during acceleration, and improved fuel economy can be expected while also satisfying the driver's demands.

  • This study has been carried out to investigate the microstructure of austempered high carbon cast steel with the variation of silicon and heat treatment conditions. The results show that an lower ausferritic structure is formed at the low austemepring temperature ($250{\sim}300^{\circ}C$) and an upper ausferritic structure is formed at the high austemepring temperature ($350{\sim}400^{\circ}C$). As an austempering temperature increased, the retained austenite volume fraction increased, however hardness decreased. Also, as a silicon content increased, the precipitation of cementite was suppressed, therefore 2nd reaction of autempering transformation was delayed.

  • This paper described on the motion of hybrid tractor trajectory for powertrain system. The dynamics behavior used to the tractor according to the characteristics of the road surface using $Daful^@$ analysis. The tractor industry is facing to a big problem about rising gas price and exhaust gas environment. Because it was possible overcoming the past drawback, hybrid vehicle had been decided as the best technical way since it has started operating the internal combustion engine with the electric power as the motive power. The vehicle structures have designed the model of a major power transmission factor. The simulation realized in this paper that motion of tractor being turned by torque and force of each joints. Driving characteristics, especially in recent years, IVHS (Intelligent Vehicle Tractor / System) technology, while receiving a lot of attention because of the tractor and the need to pursue high function is emerging as a more and more.

  • The present study proposes a modified temperature-dependent non-Newtonian viscosity model and investigates the flow characteristics and heat transfer enhancement of the viscoelastic non-Newtonian fluid in a 2:1 rectangular duct. The combined effects of temperature dependent viscosity, buoyancy, and secondary flow caused by the second normal stress difference are considered. Calculated Nusselt numbers by the modified temperature-dependent viscosity model give good agreement with the experimental results. The heat transfer enhancement of viscoelastic fluid in a rectangular duct is highly dependent on the secondary flow caused by the magnitude of second normal stress difference.

  • Modern vehicle has a lot of ECU(Electronic Control Unit) products to control many parts such as engine, transmission, brake, body and so on. ECU quality is one of important factors related to vehicle quality and driver's safety. Based on Bath-tub curve which presents failure rate during product lifetime, we designed and applied Accelerated Run-in Test into manufacturing line by simulating stress amount to ECU and developing the required software and efficient test equipment for mass production. This test makes ECU products stressed through electrical and thermal stresses under excessive driving condition, which induce potential initial failure of components in the ECU during production. The outcome until these days proved that Acceleration Run-in Test have reduced initial failure rates and increased quality of ECU products in the field outstandingly.

  • The wear of the contact in the tappet accounts for the greatest portion of entire friction loss of an engine, leading to the occurrence of abnormal wear. The coated specimens for earn-tappet wear test were producted by using PVD-Sputtering coating method. It examined the friction characteristics occurring between the earn and the tappet by using the dedicated wear tester and found that the friction torque value was reduced through comparison testing with the existing part when the low friction coating was applied. So application of the low friction coating to actual vehicles will reduce the fuel economy and occurrence of noise-vibration.

  • Future powertrain technologies will be developed focused on applications of eco-friendly technology for internal combustion engine, electric vehicle and Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle. But it is expected that these cutting edge technologies will not be applied immediately due to lack of infrastructure, technical and economical reasons. Therefore, numerous developments of internal combustion engine will be carried out for the time being. There have been many turbo engine developments undergoing to maximize the engine performance using turbo charger system in accordance with global trend-green technology and downsizing of engine which coincides with HMC's future development strategy. This study reviews the development process and result of plastic intake manifold module which is firstly developed for turbo engine. CAE simulation and experiments were implanted to evaluate design validity.

  • A diesel forklift truck under 3-ton class has disadvantages in the vibration transmission path. Because the weight ratio of body structure to powertrain which is source of excitation force is lower th an a mid-class forklift. In addition, the torsional and bending vibration mode frequencies of body structure are within the engine excitation frequency range, then high idle vibration generated by resonance. In this paper vehicle body structure design and optimization technique considering idle vibration reduction are presented. Design sensitivity analysis is applied to search the sensitive of design parameters in body structure. The design parameters such as thickness and pillar cross section were optimized to increase the torsional and bending vibration mode frequencies.

  • In this paper, validation of Driver Steering Model has been conducted. The comparison between the simulation model and vehicle test results shows that the model is very feasible for describing combined human driver and actual vehicle dynamic behaviors. The 3D vehicle model is consisted of 6-DOF sprung mass and 4-quarter car model for vehicle body dynamics. Powertrain model including differential gear and Pacejka tire model are applied. The driver steering model is also validated with vehicle test result. The driver steering model is based on angle and displacement error from the desired path, recognized by driver.
