c-Jun N-Terminal Kinase Signaling Inhibitors Under Development

  • Targeting protein kinases has been active area in drug discovery. The c-Jun N-terminal kinases(JNKs) have also been target for development of novel therapy in various diseases, since the roles of JNK signaling in pathological conditions were revealed in studies using jnk-deficient mice. Small molecule inhibitors and peptide inhibitors are identified for therapeutic intervention of JNK signaling pathway. SP-600125, an anthrapyrazole small molecule inhibitor for JNK with high potency and selectivity has been widely used for dissecting JNK signaling pathway. CC-401 is the first JNK inhibitor that went into clinical trial for inflammation and leukemia. Inhibitor for mixed lineage kinase (MLK), CEP-1347 also negatively regulates JNK signaling, and tried for potential use in Parkinson's disease. Cell-permeable peptide inhibitor D-JNKI-1 is being developed for the treatment of hearing loss. The current status of these JNK inhibitors and safety issue is discussed in the minireview.

A Study on Utilization of Rural Amenity Resources and Village Planning Applying Rural Amenity Design Competition (농촌어메니티 환경설계 공모전을 통한 어메니티자원활용 및 마을계획에 관한 연구)

  • Recently, many of rural villages are pursuing rural tourism to attract citizens and increase nonfarm income. A key of rural village plan utilizing rural amenity resources is to make sustainable villages considering regional character and potential for development that will work for the residents. In this study, we analyzed Rural Amenity Design Competition winning works which will be possible solutions to make proper plans for rural village and applied these contents to study areas. Three villages were selected as study areas and more than two types of amenity utilization were settled for planning direction for each village to have specialized and unique plan. Through Rural Amenity Design Competition which is being held annually, we will be able to get more data throughout rural area and verify trend of rural village planning. By selecting theme of the competition reflects needs of the time, more detailed and original ideas on amenity village planning can be drawn and this will contribute to proper and stable village planning.

DEVELOPMENT OF DIGITAL ASSEMBLY CELL FOR LASER WELDING OF SIDE PANELS

  • This paper is concerned with development of digital assembly cell. Automotive industries, try to find out new welding technologies to replace the existing spot welding which is not appropriate anymore. Because of many advantages like good accessibility, welding quality and fast welding speed, laser welding seems the most appropriate solution for automobile manufactures. To apply this technology to welding of car body, experiments must be conducted according to material, geometry and layer in welding area. Based on the data of these experiments, the laser welding process and the quality of stitches are identified. And then, the comparison between the requirements of welding and the potential of equipments allows selecting the best equipments. By using the digital manufacturing, the configurations of laser welding cell are carried out. After all, the optimal laser welding cell is chosen by the evaluation of alternative cells with technical and organizational criteria.

  • The purpose of this paper is to present some main economic factors which influence Gaza Seaport. Without direct access to the international market, the Palestinian economy will continue its dependence on Israeli economy mainly in employment, transport facilitation, and international trade. The greatest potential for Palestinian economic growth lies in trade. The port is important for creating new job opportunities, and for enhancing exporting capabilities, which are the most essential elements for development of the Palestinian economy. Israeli policies and procedures incur Palestinian exporters additional transportation costs when delivering their products to Israeli Ports or when transit these products to neighboring countries through Israeli controlled area. The public profit for the port is greater than the private profit. Therefore, constructing the port will have a great effect on the Palestinian economy. There are many challenges facing the port, some of them are the political stability, the economies of scale, and Israeli security measures and procedures.

  • Autonomy of unmanned systems is important because the unmanned system with high level of autonomy is able to perform desired tasks in unstructured environments without continuous human guidance. Evaluation of their autonomy is vital to realize the autonomous operation ability of unmanned system. Compared to the methods of evaluating the level of autonomy(LOA) for an unmanned ground vehicle(UGV) and unmanned aerial vehicle(UAV), the method of expressing the LOA of unmanned maritime system(UMS) is not established yet. Since UMS has a unique characteristics in terms of operational area, mission complexity and required technologies, compared to the UGV and UAV, it is required to establish for expressing the LOA for UMS. This paper reviews the current approaches to assess the LOA of unmanned system and proposes potential metrics for UMS in order to determine the autonomy levels of UMS.

Strategic Considerations for Development of Gunsan(Saemangum) Port in terms of China (중국효과에 따른 새만금항만의 전략적 발전가능성 모색)

  • China's rapid growth of economy and developing logistics facilities such as sea and air ports can give the good effects to increase the trade and logistics cargo volumes within Pan Yellow Sea Economic Bloc which consists of Korea, China, Japan and Russia. These phenomenon also stimulate the development of the West Coastal Integrated Belt in South Korea. In the past 20th century, South Korea's advanced and developed areas were located on the Kyeong-Bu Axis, the straight line of Seoul and Busan. However, due to the china's effect, this axis is moving into the West Coast area between Incheon (Seoul) and Mokpo, which is closely located to China. In this aspect, sea ports located in West Coast of Korea have shown the steep increase in container and non-container cargo volumes. With regard to the changing environments in sea ports, this paper's aim is to investigate the developing potential of Gunsan (Saemangum) area located on mid of West Coast. As results, targeted area have shown the potential in terms of port network, supply chain management and transferring location for container cargoes. Moreover, for implementing the suitable roles, construction of New Saemangun port, closely located in Gunsan port, is needed to overcome the limitations of Gunsan port.

A study on the development of long time exposure $SO_2$ sampler (장기 노출 $SO_2$ 간이 샘플러 개발에 관한 연구)

  • The concentrations of $SO_2$ and $SO_3$ were measured to estimate a new developed long time exposure $SO_2$ sampler at Onsan industrial area considering the meteorological factors from June to October, 1992. The mean concentration of $SO_3$ by $PbO_2$ method was 0.924 mg $SO_3 / 10cm^2$ $PbO_2$/day and their high values were shown in the center of the industrial area, which show potential pollution due to the increase of industrial activities and micrometeorological factors in and around the sites. As a result of statistical correlation between $SO_2$ concentration by new sampling method and $SO_3$ concentration by $PbO_2$ method in July and August, 1992, correlation coefficients were high (r=0.87, 0.91) and shown more than 0.83 value in the high concentration data set, which was arbitrarily divided into 7~10${\mu}l$$SO_2$ concentration in an attempt to further investigate these relationships. Therefore, use of new developed long time exposure TEX>$SO_2$ sampler is good for TEX>$SO_2$ measurement and valuable for estimation of air quality in the urban and industrial area.   • Cities of China have been expanding rapidly during the last 10 years and the living environment of urban population developed highly making little difference with the developed nations. However, in the case of rural area, situation is totally different from the urban area. There are some cases where the quality of life in rural areas is retreating compared to the past. Agrarian cultures of the past are remained in the rural area with only older generations and no younger generations. The difference between the rural and the urban and the movement to the cities are increasing in a rapid speed. This led to the recognition of potential danger that lies on the agricultural societies which can demolish the economic development's sustainability. Therefore, in this study, basic information about the current Chinese elderly's house circumstances and to build new houses suited for the older generations will be provided. This can not only enhance the quality of the elder citizen's life, but also can be a meaningful research for the ideal construction of future Chinese agriculture.

Estimating Optimal Probability Distributions of Daily Potential Photovoltaic Power Generation for Development of Rural Green-Village by Solar Energy - with Area of Seosan Weather Station - (농촌그린빌리지 조성을 위한 일별 잠재적 태양광발전량의 적정확률분포형 추정 - 서산지역을 중심으로 -)

  • Photovoltaic power generation is currently being recognized as one of the most popular sources for renewable resources over the country. Although it is also being adapted to rural area for may reasons, it is important to estimate the magnitudes of power outputs with reliable statistical methodologies, while applying historical daily solar energy data, for correct feasibility analysis. In this study, one of the well-known statistical methodologies is employed to define the appropriate probability distributions for monthly power outputs for the selected rural area, county of Seo-san, province of Chungnam. The results imply that the assumption of normal distributions for several months may lead to incorrect decision-making and therefore lead to the unreliable feasibility analysis. Generalized beta and triangular distributions were found to be superior to normal distribution, when describing monthly probability distributions for daily photovoltaic power. Based on the appropriate distributions resulted from this study, Monte Carlo simulation technique was also applied to provide additional flexible information for the relevant decision makers. This study found out new finding that the probability distributions should be considered to make planning of the photovoltaic power system in rural village unit, in order to give reasonable economic analysis to the decision makers.

A Study of Important Perception on the Main Tourist Resource of closed Mine Area in Jeong-Seon - The Case of the Perception of Professionals and Local Residents - (정선 폐광지역 주요 관광자원 중요도 평가 연구 - 전문가와 지역주민 평가를 중심으로 -)

  • This study was initiated by the fact that Kangwon Land and large sized resorts was failed the financial benefit to the local residents. This research analyzed the best important tourist resource among the main tourist resource by perception interviewing local residents and related professionals. This study shows that the leisure resource was most important resource field in Jeong-Seon. So more attention to the leisure resources and investment them. Among natural attraction resources 'Hwa-Ahm cave and Hwa-Ahm mineral water' is estimated to have most potential for the strategic financial support. In leisure sector 'High One resort' is judged to be more important attraction resource by professionals but a case of local residents 'Dong-gang Rafting' and 'Rail Bike' were estimated more important resources rather than 'High One resort;. Lastly, in cultural resources, although the importance is a bit behind natural attraction and leisure resources, 'Jeong-Seon 5th day market' and 'Araree village' should be the core linking other related cultural resources. In order to activate tour industry and development of Jeong-Seon area, it is necessary to find identify of regional owned attraction resources and to build tourist attraction infra structure by selecting core bases of existing major attraction points and linking other various resources to those core bases.
