Paul Auster's The Locked Room, the third novel of The New York Trilogy, has been examined by many critics in terms of anti-detective fiction or postmodernism. However, this paper focuses upon how the author adopts and utilizes some key elements of the traditional detective novel and its literary tradition. Mystery storytelling is one of Auster's literary strategies and the theme of the double is another. For his novel Auster explores the theme of the double as in Poe's "William Wilson." In The Locked Room, the narrator "I" is described as a shadow of his childhood friend Fanshawe. After Fanshawe's disappearance "I" becomes a literary agent for his friend, and becomes a husband of his friend's wife and a father of his friend's child. Searching for information to write a biography of his friend, he realizes that his friend has always been living inside his skull condemned to a mystical solitude. When Fanshawe appears in the narrator's mind as an image of the door of a locked room, the locked room is also a metaphor for the closed consciousness of the narrator. In his strategy of mystery storytelling, Auster employs the quest of detective fiction as well as the irony of Oedipus the King, where the criminal pursued by the king turns out to be himself. The Locked Room starts with the mystery of Fanshawe's disappearance, and as the novel develops, the narrator pursues numerous clues about his biographical subject like a private eye. Ironically, however, he finds that the ghost of Fanshawe has always been with him and that this is inevitable. As the narrator resolves to quit his life as a double, he contrives to name a strange man Fanshawe as if he tries to turn his biographical subject into a fictional character in the same way Fanshawe has controlled the narrator like a character in Fanshawe's novel. Beaten by the fictional Fanshawe and recovering from a near-death experience, the narrator prepares for his final showdown with Fanshawe. The transcendence of his existence as a double is epitomized by his act to tear off the red notebook handed to him by Fanshawe, which confusingly delivers a message that a life is doomed to be a failure. The narrator's act to cut off Fanshawe's influence bespeaks his breaking out of his locked consciousness and a new start for his life with his own identity.

The purpose of this study is an empirical case study that focuses on bring about changes in clients through narrative therapy using scaffolding. Through this, the purpose was to find the preferred values and hopes of the future among the stories that the client's has lived in. As the research method, we proceed through unstructured interview and loose structures in qualitative research. On this premise, the counselor did not diagnose or explain the 'decentralized but influential' attitudes and problem. And there was no order in the conversation, and I didn't decide in advance how to react to it before the client made any expressions. This study has the following significance on a practical and academic level: First of all, counseling through scaffolding further enrich the curiosity, temperament, and wishes of the client. Second, the scaffolding provides a concrete picture of the relationship between a counselor and a client in narrative therapy. Third, the scaffolding made in therapeutic dialogue presents a 'learning tasks'. Fourth, counseling through scaffolding has an active meaning that it can develop the higher mental function of clients in charge. Finally, we presented an application of narrative therapy in Vygotsky's theory through analysis of empirical cases. Based on this information, this study did not simply intend to position the client as a research object in narrative therapy. It is meaningful that they have identified the factors necessary to become the subject of narrative therapy and the role of the counselor in the process. In addition, this study has implications in that it contributed to the expansion and substantialization of the research scope of narrative therapy in that it utilized the concept of scaffolding, which has not received much attention in the domestic research.

In the past, musicians followed strict patterns written by composers when playing classical music. However, since the development of postmodernism, which puts an emphasis on unique individualities and various ways of thinking, following the strict patterns of classical music unquestioningly became less significant. Classical music was thought to be difficult to follow and enjoy for most people. Thus, musicians have found ways to keep the dignity of classical music but added familiarity in order to popularize arias in operas. They created classical crossover music and this type of music enabled people to enjoy easy access to classical music. However, not many studies focus on arrangement methods of changing classical music into crossover music. The goal of this study is to research on arrangement methods of crossover music based on the findings from precedent researches on operas. This study focused on analyzing musical structure including chords, rhythms and compositions of musical instruments. According to the analysis, original classical songs and popera, which is a type of crossover music, share similarities in terms of rhythms and chords. However, there are differences when it comes to compositions of musical instruments. In case of a jazz version, it uses AfroCuban rhythm as well as Bolero rhythm which is a part of ballad and jazz acoustic instruments are mainly used. Also, in order to reduce the feeling of classical music and to differentiate the jazz version from the original version, a lot of tension is used in voicing. This study can be helpful for any researches related to arrangements of classical crossover music.

The purpose of this study is to discuss the elements and meanings of the performative scenography which has been revealed through the new directorial interpretation and deconstruction process of the musical 『All Shook Up』. The performative scenography characteristics after postmodernism aim to create individual active perceptions and various social meanings through audience's voluntary and particular emergence. To this end, the theoretical foundation of scenography was examined by periods in advance. Based on this, I attempted to establish performative scenography for synthesized scenic and media design through the reconstruction process for the 『All Shook Up Travelers』. As a result, I set up visual narrative based world of 『All Shook Up Travelers』 which was produced by text-based intense images for a direct medium in order to expand actors' inner narrative and established unique performative scenography of its own: 1. enhancing the adapted one's narratives for the actors' and audience's co-existence and detachment, 2. delivering its own independent meanings which have double meanings, 3. encouraging audience's critical and active perception experiences through collage and montage of media.

This paper aims to identify the characteristics implied in the process of change of Stephen Sondheim's musical style and to derive the structural communication tools that connect the creator and audience and the implications. The strategies that appear in Sondheim's musical works are the following. First, Sondheim's early musical works follow the principles of book musical and emphasize the integration faithful to the basic elements such as the rhythm and meaning of the lyrics. Second, in the era of early postmodernism, Sondheim attempts the principle of extreme deconstruction through the concept musical Company and pursues rational thought through fragmented dramatic flow. Third, while maintaining dramatic linearity to overcome the lack of immersion caused by extreme deconstruction, Sondheim realizes a more elaborate and formalized fusion style of the principles of integration and deconstruction through the choruses and the songs of the characters in Little Night Music and Sweeney Todd. Finally, Sondheim attempts multiple experiments to break down the boundaries of act and scene and to express new subject matters through his works such as Sunday Park with George and Into the Woods. In conclusion, Sondheim's fusion experiments and strategies are the process of finding a framework and a medium of communication to induce dramatic immersion of audience and at the same time create rational thinking about social problems to deliver the message of the creative work with the leading aesthetics of the modern musical's box-office success.
This study aims to understand archival art, which is spreading in the art world, and to look at records in a new way. Archival art refers to the act of creating and exhibiting art using records as a medium of expression. Archival art is attracting attention as a method of exhibition and creation of works, forming a trend in contemporary art. Archival art was born amid changes in art creation methods resulting from the rise of conceptual art, the development of media including photography and advancements in digital technology, and the influence of Foucault and Derrida's discourse on archives. The encounter between archives and art, which originated from photographic aesthetics in the 1920s, led to archival turn in contemporary art in the 1990s, thanks to the spread of conceptual art, digital technology, and postmodernism. Archival art not only subverts traditional art creation methods, but also includes criticism and deconstruction of social systems, including modern archives. Archival art rearranges and reorganizes records according to the artist's intention, and even accepts fiction rather than fact. The essence of records in archival art is not the reproduction of the past, but the expression of present needs. The way records are utilized in archival art shakes up the concept of records in archival science, calling for a new look at records as objects with not only legal and administrative value but also aesthetic value.
This International Geographical Symposium is to comemorate the 50th anniversary of the Korean Geographical Society. The Korean Geographical Society (KGS) which is the headquater of the geogaphical study will be play a main role to promote International Geographical Conference(IGC). And KGS hopes to prepare for the success of IGC and to examine the ability of the Korean Geographical Society for holding IGC in Seoul, in 2000. Above all, we expect to confirm what vision of the spatial structure our geographers have had for the last 50 years and in the position of the Korean Geographical Society, we present various studies on the spatial structure of the Unified Korea and through the discussion of the members we are going to lead our common interest to the key of reunification and motivate this studies more actively. We think that German geographers who have been studying the establishment of the spatial structure before and after the reunification of Germany will help in setting spatial structure of reunified Korea. In the second part of seminar, we will have a lecture on "Geography in the 21st Century; its Perspectives and Contribution". This lecture will prepose the trends of international geographical study and discipline, to Korean geographers and encourage them to realize what position we are in on the level of international geography and intensify their study. In the end of twentieth centuries, Korean geographers, who accessto postmodernism, hope to develope the unique subject matter and discipline regrardless of the 50 year-partition of the Korean Peninsula through the study of geobraphy. What can we suagest to geographers under the unique spatia1 structure of the divided peninsula\ulcorner How will our country develope in the future when DMZ, the last remains of cold war, vanishes and our reunified country becomes\ulcorner These subject matters will be issued in this International Geographic Conference. These issued subject matters and procedures of discussion will stimulate younger students to have interest in our unique geographic environment and to set up thier own method of study. In the third part of seminar, a special lecture on "Half-century of Korean Geography: It's Reflection and Perspective", the product and the subject of each part in geography will be discussed. Because this seminar is for the first time in 20 years after the 30th anniversary, the evaluation and the comment of each field in geography will be focused on because the achievement of each member's study is evaluted and refered to objectively. The newly developed field ewll be proposed, as well as the evaluation and the result of the Korean Geographical Society. The criticism and the proposal of the Korean Geographical Society will encourage the study of each member. And it will contribute to the development of the Korean Geographical Society. We hope all the issued papers to be published as atreatise and circulated to all members, university liberaries, each institution etc. There is no doubt our research and study will affect geographers and geography teachers to use this treatise. If possible, we will make public editions to distribute widely for students who study geography. It will help students to study geography encouragingly and to understand a correct structure and to commit themselves to promote the developed industrial country when they are playing a leading part in society. And we will contribute this issue to all the institutes such as the congress, each department of government, the political parties, the economic circles and private institutes, in order to make them understand our academic efforts and activities. Visual culture art education (VCAE) seems to be the new paradigm for art education after postmodernism. Getting beyond the traditional art education, VCAE has expanded its scope of interest to include the visual environment that surrounds our life, thus pushing the boundary of art education beyond the traditional fine arts to cover pop culture and visual art. VCAE shares the issues as well as a lot of elements of culture and art education and in fact serves as a major theoretic background for culture and art education, in that it pays attention to the sociocultural context of images and emphasizes visual literacy and constructionist learning. In this paper, I have reviewed the theoretical background and related issues of VCAE with a view to presenting a direction for animation education, which is gaining in importance coming into the Age of Digital Media. VCAE was born in the progressive cultural atmosphere from the 1970s and thereafter, and its gist consists in figuring out visual artifacts and their action in order to improve individual and social life. Yet, VCAE continues with its development according to the changing aspects of visual culture, and currently, it is expanding its scope of interest to cover the esthetic, experiential education in visual culture and construction of meaning through digital story-telling. In the visual environment of the Digital Age, animation is establishing itself as the center of the visual culture, being a form that goes beyond an art genre or technology to realize images throughout the visual culture. Also, VCAE, which has so far emphasized visual communication and critical reading of culture, would need to reflect the new aspects of the visual culture in digital animation across the entire gamut from experiencing to understanding and appreciating art education. In this paper, I emphasize on Cross-Curricula, social reconstruction, the expansion of animation education, interests in animation as a digital media, and animation literacy. A study of animation education from the perspective of VCAE will not only provide a theoretical basis for establishing animation education, but also enrich the content of VCAE, traditionally focused on critical text reading, and promote its contemporary and futuristic orientation.
The Framework Act on the Management of Disasters and Safety 2004(FAMDS) currently underpins Korean civil protection system, and under this FAMDS, Korean civil protection establishes a three-tiered government structure for dealing with crises and disasters: central government, provincial & metropolitan government, and local government tiers. In particular, the concept of Integrated Emergency Management(IEM) emphasizes that emergency response organizations should work and act together to respond to crises and disasters effectively, based on the coordination and cooperation model, not the command and control model. In tune with this trend, civil protection matters are, first, dealt with by local responders at the local level without direct involvement of central or federal government in the UK or USA. In other words, central government intervention is usually implemented in the UK and the USA, only when the scale or complexity of a civil protection issue is so vast, and thus requires a degree of central government coordination and support, resting on the severity and impact of the event. In contrast, it appears that civil protection mechanism in Korea has adopted a rigid centralized system within the command and control model, and for this reason, central government can easily interfere with regional or local command and control arrangements; there is a high level of central government decision-making remote from a local area. The principle of subsidiarity tends to be ignored. Under these circumstances, it is questionable whether such top-down arrangements of civil protection in Korea can manage uncertainty, unfamiliarity and unexpectedness in the age of Risk Society and Post-modern society, where interactive complexity is increasingly growing. In this context, the study argues that Korean civil protection system should move towards the decentralized model, based on coordination and cooperation between responding organizations, loosening the command and control structure, as with the UK or the USA emergency management arrangements. For this argument, the study basically explores mechanisms of civil protection arrangements in Korea under current legislation, and then finally attempts to make theoretical suggestions for the future of the Korean civil protection system.
As a type of mass media, cartoon has been changed by political, economic, and social cultural influences. Certainly, sports cartoon also has been influenced by them. Ever since Park Ki Jung's cartoon came out, which was assumed as the first sports cartoon in Korea, sports cartoons had been used as a means of vicarious satisfaction until 1980s. Sometimes they reflected the phases of the era that struggled to overcome poverty, and adversity followed by war. Sometimes they showed people's suppressed feelings against their society. However, in modern society, the perspective of readers changes in various ways because of the influence by postmodernism. They put more weight on individualism rather than on group, they consider individual tastes very important since personal tastes and diversity has been one of significant factors. For these reasons, sport cartoons were no more what they had used to be. By 1990s, sports cartoons had attracted readers' attention again by presenting distinctive characters, and describing fancy sports skills in cartoons trying to escape from cliche story plots such as stories about rivals, competitions, winners-losers composition, and characters' diligence. Moreover, some sports cartoons contained professional contents focusing on expert sport knowledges, and deepen information of sports. From the point of cultural industries view, these tendencies are heavily affected on sportainment industry which stands out as an emerging industry recently. The ultimate purpose of sportainment industries is making a profit by providing entertainment and amusement for their readers beyond sports games. This study focused on influences that the transition of sports cartoons affects sportainment through concrete cases in context of cultural industries since 90s. The study will analyze the concept of sportainment industries, and discuss the process of sports cartoons' transition. Once sports cartoons keep trying to challenge, and make a progress with aggressive changes, it would give great influences not only to sportainment industries but also to other kinds of pop cultural industries.
