  • Fruit ripening represents a genetically synchronized system that involves developmental process unique to plant species, The phenomenon of ripening includes changes in color, texture, respiration rate, flavor, and aroma. Ripe fruits generally exhibit increased susceptibility to pathogen infection. However, fruits as a reproductive organ have their own protection mechanism against pathogens to maintain their integrity during seed maturation. In several nonclimacteric fruits, such as cherry, grape, and pepper, that do not have an ethylene burst during ripening, resistance against phytopathogens increases during ripening. Colletotrichum gloeosporioides is a causal agent of anthracnose disease in pepper plants (Capsicum annuum). We have established that C. gloeosporioides has susceptible and resistant interactions with pepper fruits during pre- and post-ripening stages, respectively. And we have interested in looking for a molecular mechanism that would explain the fungal resistance during ripening of nonclimacteric pepper fruit. In this presentation, a molecular characterization of the pepper esterase gene (PepEST) that is highly expressed in the resistant response will be demonstrated as an example of development and industrial applications of versatile-usable genes of plant.

  • The graying of population is not only a significant problem in developing countries, but also in a small country which is passing industrialization and urbanization. Industrialization and urbanization has raised a number of nuclear family. Moreover, changes in the environment and development in science such as a medical development and improving standard of health and hygiene have raised an average life expectancy. Considering these factors, average age of population is going up continue. Developed countries such as Europe, US and Japan have already experienced the graying and some countries have entered aged society. Korea is expected to be reached post-aged society in 7 years which is faster than developed countries that started aging society earlier than Korea. The purpose of this study is a analysis of resident's opinions and preference and using space of elders facilities and seeking a plan to construct the facilities through suggesting standard of use space. Firstly, this report will classify current situation of spacial organization on elder facilities focusing on major sectors and will compare in size. Moreover, standard of area distribution through an analyzing characteristics of each spacial organization. Secondly, The report will compare and analyze between space and main traffic line through classifying traffic lines between staffs and residents of elder facilities and understanding characteristics and problems of each traffic line. Lastly, this will study perception and preference on staffs at elders facilities and middle old aged people who are potential demander, and compare between these people.

A Study on the POE (Post Occupancy Evaluation) according to the Residential Environment of Mixed-use Apartment Complexes In Seoul

  • In this study, POE(Post Occupancy Evaluation) evaluation indexes were selected into six categories through the consideration of theories and prior research. Therefore, qualitative supply can be achieved through POE according to the aspect of residential environment after the quantitative supply of mixed-use apartment complex by the population concentration in Seoul due to industrialization and urbanization. As the evaluation elements, detailed survey contents were selected for livability, convenience, comfort, safety, economy, and sociality. Based on the survey contents, six elements were evaluated and analyzed using Data coding and Likert scale after surveying 12 complexes (Urban areas and non-urban areas) in Seoul. As a result of the study, six categories selected as the POE showed that importance of quality of life and safety was developed in high recognition according to high satisfaction with convenience and safety. Sociality showed the lowest satisfaction in the following order : livability, comfort, economy and sociality. Residents' sense of community, interaction with neighborhood, etc., showed low satisfaction, and it seems that it is necessary to improve and supplement the system for the development of mixed-use apartment complex in the future. The detailed characteristics of livability showed high satisfaction of the living room, the front door and the main room which are main uses of housing, and low satisfaction in storage size. The analysis of convenience is that convenient public transportation was the highest, and educational environment and additional facilities were the lowest, showing the advantages and disadvantages of location characteristics. As a result of the analysis of comfort, satisfaction with the landscape area was low and it seems that green space is needed for the development of mixed-use apartment complex in the future. Lastly, regarding the safety, the satisfaction of the access control, the location of security office, etc. were high, however separation of circulation was low. Therefore, it is necessary to clearly separate the circulation between the residence and other facilities in the mixed-use apartment complex.

  • The government-supported research institutes' system seems to face a turning point as the country's innovation system, shaped in the industrialization process, now reveals its own limitations. This makes the transformation of the innovation system unavoidable. Korea began to emerge as a leader in several technological areas including semiconductor, TFT-LCD, and handset, in a few cases even outpacing advanced countries. This has changed the very nature of the problems and questions to be resolved. This study analysed the structural limitations and challenges of government-supported research institutes focused ETRI. In a nutshell, The innovation system of government-supported research institutes seems to face a situation where the new innovation environment is conflicting and competing with the legacy of the past: governance, planning, budget, personnel, evaluation system. There are needs for change and thus tries to achieve a innovation system transition and build a new vision and management system including a new mode of working for post-catchup innovation.

  • According as the fashion at the latter half part of the 20th century is diversified and made into high-class gradually, it is demanding the individuality of each one. Especially, since the beginning of 1980s, fashion came to represent the restoration mood in a modern style because of the popularization of post-modernism. And with this, it came to result in the reappearance of minimalism which was one of anti-culture in 1960s. In this study, this researcher grasped the appearance background, concept and structural concept of minimalism, and tried to study the influence that he minimalism had on fashion in the flow of fashion over the first half period of the 20th century. Minimalism is the fine art trend of American characteristic which quicked by the meeting of European culture and American culture, according as the new avant-grade art of Europe moved to America after World War II Minimalism which appeared, refusing the mechanisation, industrialization and mass production of America and the falsehood of consciousness and sensitivity under existing system remained obscure by the pop art which is the commercial fine art of same period, but it came to expand the domain of work possibility of modern fine art, and it became the basis of appearance of post-modernism. Minimalism has 4 kinds of structural features which are nonside nature, repetitiousness and environment nature with 3 dimensional feature which is issue nature. Minimalism is appearing in the exfcellent and future-oriented fashon of Andre Kureju t the time of 1960 well. Then science revolution and minimalism aroused the mini-revolution, and they made the compact radio in electric home appliances and the miniskirt in fashion appear. The features of minimal fashion as Retro '60' which appeared in the decedent mood with the 21st century just before on are as follows: First, the are the pursuit of concise plastic line. Second, it is the use of high tech material Third, the miniaturization in size amy be enumerated. Minimal fashion will appear s the positive confrontation from of mankind as the optimistic viewpoint about feature in the situation hat environment was destroyed and the resources were exhausted.

Herbicidal Effect of 5-Aminolevulinic Acid, a Biodegradable Photodynamic Substance (생분해성 광활성 물질 5-aminolevulinic acid의 제초활성)

  • Laboratory and greenhouse experiments were conducted to determine the herbicidal effect of two types of ${\delta}$-aminolevulinic acid (ALA), microbiologically-produced ALA (Bio-ALA) and synthetically produced ALA (Synthetic-ALA), on plant growth and chlorophyll content of Chinese cabbage. ALA effect on early plant growth was greatly concentration dependant, showing significant inhibition at higher concentrations. Both pre- and post-emergence application of ALA exhibited significant degree of photodynamic phytotoxicity. Older plants with many leaves were more tolerant to ALA than younger plants, showing less injury. No significant difference in herbicidal activity of two types of ALA, Bio-ALA and Synthetic-ALA, on plant height and chlorophyll content of Chinese cabbage was observed. However, residual biological activity and physico-chemical properties of Synthetic-ALA were more stable than those of Bio-ALA. Our results suggest that ALA had herbicidal potential with both pre- and post-emergence application, and that the chemical may be a valuable mean of eco-friendly weed control based on natural microbial substance.

  • There might be still weakness in domestic R&D of DIY based modular smart phone and device to cope effectively with post smartphone era. Currently, it is essential for us to provide technology development and countermeasure way against subversive influence that development and commercial release of Google's modular smartphone can cause in such ecology. This paper focused to suggest binding assignment and technology prospect required in promoting industrialization related with IoT and deducing the global countermeasure ways through investigation and analysis about advanced technology and patents of modular smart phone and devices.   • Transgenic plant cell cultures for the production of biopharmaceuticals including monoclonal antibodies, recombinant proteins have been regarded as an alternative platform in addition to traditional microbial fermentation and mammalian cell cultures. Plant-made pharmaceuticals (PMPs) have several advantages such as safety, cost-effectiveness, scalability and possibility of complex post-translational modifications. Increasing demand for the quantity and diversity of pharmaceutical proteins may accelerate the industrialization of PMP technology. Up to date, there is no plant-made recombinant protein approved by USFDA (Food and Drug Administration) for human therapeutic uses due to the technological bottlenecks of low expression level and slight differences in glycosylation. Regarding expression levels, it is possible to improve the productivity by using stronger promoter and optimizing culture processes. In terms of glycosylation, humanization has been attempted in many ways to reduce immune responses and to enhance the efficacy as well as stability. In this review article, all these respects of transgenic plant cell cultures were summarized. In addition, we also discuss the general characteristics of plant cell suspension cultures related with bioreactor design and operation to achieve high productivity in large scale which could be a key to successful commercialization of PMPs.

  • The cities keep growing due to industrialization and the risk of disaster gets higher as the society gets sophisticated. The center of current disaster plan has spent more efforts on post processing of disaster and it is the current status that the plan for shelter that minimizes the life and property damage has not been established effectively. Especially, the whole area of Noksan Industrial Complex at Noksan-dong, Gangseo-gu, Busan Metropolitan City was designated as danger area of tsunami, but the shelter has not been selected. Thus, this paper is willing to select the shelter using AHP analysis and GIS method that is multi criteria decision making analysis after grasping the buildings that can be selected as the shelter.

  • The Israel-born Ron Arad is one of Britain's "superstar" designers, an it has been said that he is Britain's answer to Philippe Starck. Arad is a highly individualistic designer whose ideas stem from a mental process that has more in common with that of the fine artist than of the jobbing designer for industry. His imagination expresses itself in the form of things. By the early 1990s he had become internationally recognized for his "ready-made" work. His furniture and lighting designs required extremely costly labour-intensive techniques to produce. As his work was highly evocative, suggesting a post-industrial world in which the urban landscape was characterized by materials in a state of decay. More recently, through collaborations with Italian and German manufactures, his work has reached a new level of sophistication and finish, which differentiates it from the earlier designs. As Arad reputation as a designer of workshop-based furniture came to an end and the era of "democratic" Arad furniture came into being. By middle of the decade he had become one of the most-discussed designers of the day. The spirituality that emanates from all his work is a product of his particular vision of the creative process, far removed from the typical, stereotyped trends in the sphere of modern industrialization.
