Purpose: This study was conducted to investigate the differences in the characteristics of anger expression, positive thinking, gratitude, and trait anger, and factors affecting trait anger in college majors. Methods: The participants were 339 college students and recruited from two universities in P and D cities. Data were analyzed with descriptive analysis, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and stepwise regression analysis using the SPSS/WIN 20.0 program. Results: There were significant differences in anger-in, anger-control, positive thinking, gratitude, and trait anger according to college majors. Moreover, anger-out was a significant factor of trait anger in all college majors. Positive thinking was a significant factor of trait anger in all college majors but natural sciences college. In terms of art, music and physical education college. Three subscales of anger expression and positive thinking were significant factors of trait anger in art music and physical education colleges majors. Conclusion: The finding of this study suggests strategies for promoting appropriate anger expression techniques and enhancing positive thinking of college students in order to decrease trait anger.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate factors affecting trait anger level in undergraduate students. Methods: The participants consisted of 315 undergraduate students at the universities in the P and D cities. Data were collected with a structured questionnaire and analyzed using descriptive analysis, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficients, and multiple stepwise regression with the SPSS/Win 20.0 program. Results: The low trait anger group showed lower levels of anger-out, anger-in and depression compared to the high trait anger group. The anger-control and positive thinking were higher in the low trait anger group than that of high trait anger group. The result of multiple stepwise regression showed that both depression and anger-out were predictors in trait anger in the both groups. In the low trait anger group, anger-control, anger-in, depression, and anger-out were significant factors of trait anger, which accounted for 31% of the total variance. High trait anger level was affected by depression, anger-out and positive thinking, which explained 40% of trait anger. Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that anger management program for undergraduate students should consider trait anger level as well as approaches with customized strategies according to trait anger level.
Purpose: This study examined how interpersonal relationship abilities in the elderly affected anger control abilities, as well as the mediating effects of generativity in the relationships between interpersonal relationships, anger control abilities, and self-integration. Research design, data and methodology: The study consisted of randomly selected 300 elderly people currently residing in welfare centers for the elderly, senior citizens colleges, social welfare facilities and other centers in the Seoul or Gyeonggi area. SPSS 23.0 was utilized for this study. Results: Through this research, the effect of interpersonal relationships on anger control ability and self-integration was observed. Not only that, the effects of interpersonal relationship abilities on anger control and self-integration and the mediating role of generativity, was also closely examined. Conclusion: Anger control ability was found to have a direct positive effect on interpersonal relationship abilities. Anger control ability had a direct and positively correlated effect on self-integration. Additionally, ability to control anger was found to have a positive effect on generativity, and generativity was found to have a positive effect on interpersonal relationship ability, but it was not statistically significant. Anger control ability had a positive effect on generativity, and generativity had a positive effect on self-integration.
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship among anger expression mode, depression and aggression in vocational high school students and to preview a method to help adolescents who have the tendency of anger, depression or aggression tendency in community mental health situation. Method: In order to get the data by self-reporting questionnaire, 372 subjects were selected from Oct. 1, 2006 to Dec. 18, 2006. The instruments for this study were Spielberger's Anger Expression Scale, Beck's Depression Scale, and Buss & Durkee's Aggression Scale. The dada was analyzed by percentage, mean, standard deviation, t-test, one-way ANOVA, and Pearson's correlation coefficient using the SPSS 12.0 program. Result: There were significantly positive correlations between anger-in and depression, and between anger-in and aggression. Also there were significantly positive correlations between anger-out and depression, and between anger-out and aggression. There was a significantly positive correlation between depression and aggression. Conclusion: It is necessary to develop a strategy to decrease depression and aggression, and to increase positive anger expression mode for vocational high school students.
The purpose of this study was to find out the relations between 6th graders' negative cognitive process and anger experience and aggressiveness. To achieve the goal, it conducted a test to examine children's negative cognitive process, anger experience, aggressiveness targeting 100 children of 6th grade in C elementary school, Gyeonggj province. Then it conducted SPSS 12.0 statistical program to get the results of correlation analysis and regression analysis. The outcomes were as follows. First, there was a meaningfully positive relation between a negative cognitive process and anger experience. In other words, children having more negative cognitive process seemed to experience the feelings of anger more often, this presented the important role of cognition while getting into a temper Second, it reported a positive relation between anger experience and aggressiveness. Children who have experienced anger more often showed more violent behaviors, especially there were more significant positive relations between trait-anger and aggressiveness compared to state-anger and aggressiveness. This could explain some possibilities that children with high level of trait-anger might outrage more often than others by recognizing the situations as anger stimulants. Third, when conducting a regression analysis, a negative cognitive process made an effect on anger experience which affected aggressiveness. However, it did not show a negative cognitive process making a direct effect on aggressiveness. This is considered that children could experience an anger while evaluating an event or object in a negative way based on individual belief, and emotional linguistic behavioral aggressiveness would be formalized as they express the sparked fury either internally or externally. In conclusion, this study proved that there were close relations between children's negative cognitive process and anger experience and aggressiveness. A negative cognitive process affects anger experience, and anger experience affects aggressiveness afterwards. A negative cognitive process affects aggressiveness through anger experience indirectly, and especially trait-anger among anger experience is the main factor to influence on aggressiveness. With consideration of these results, it is believed that mediation is important key to moderate the negative cognition and trait-anger in order to diminish children's aggressive behaviors. This study has a meaning to provide searching for manifold mediating methods between negative cognition and trait anger, with a fundamental resource.
Purpose: This study was to identify the relationship between perceived stress, anger expression, and level of depression in cancer patients. Method: A cross-sectional descriptive study design was used. Data was collected by uestionnaires from 185 in- and out-patients who were diagnosed with cancer at 3 university hospitals and the National Cancer Center using Spielberger et al.’s Anger Expression Scale, Cohen, Kamarch & Mermelstein's Perceived Stress, and Derogatise's SCL-90. The data was analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation coefficient, and stepwise multiple regression with SAS/PC. Result: The perceived stress in cancer patients indicated a significant positive correlation to anger-in(r=.288, p=.000), anger-out(r=.232, p=.001), and depression(r=.68, p=.000), but no significant correlation to anger-control. The anger-in of cancer patients showed a significant positive relationship to anger-out(r=.53, p=.000), and depression(r=.383, p=.000), but no significant correlation to anger-control. Anger-out showed a significantly negative correlation to anger-control (r=-.248, p=.001) and a positive correlation to depression (r=.240, p=.001). The most significant predictor which influenced depression in cancer patients was perceived stress, followed by anger-in and hobby, and these factors explained their depression with a variance of 54%. Conclusion: These results suggested that cancer patients with a high degree of perceived stress are likely to be high in anger-out and anger-in. Perceived stress and anger-in are major factors which affect depression in cancer patients.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the relationship between health promoting behaviors and state anger and modes of anger expression in elderly women. Method: In this descriptive correlational study, the participants were 143 elderly women who lived in D city. Data were collected from September to December, 2004. Personal interviews with a structured questionnaire were used. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA and Pearson correlation coefficients with SPSS Win 11.0 program. Results: The score for health promoting behavior in the elderly women was above the mean score, The dimension with the highest score was nutrition and the dimension with the lowest score was exercise. A significant negative correlation was found between health promoting behaviors and state anger, anger-in(suppression of anger) and anger-out(expression of anger) in elderly women. But there was a significant positive correlation between health promoting behaviors and anger discussion. Conclusion: State anger, anger-out, anger-in as negative variable and anger discussion as a Positive variable were identified. These results suggest that anger should be considered as an important factor when nurses develop educational programs to enhance health promoting behavior in elderly women.
Purpose: This study was to identify the relationships of trait anger, mode of anger expression, and perceived stress to mental health status in middle aged women. Method: The subjects were 157 middle aged women from 40s to 60s who lived in Seoul. Data was collected by questionnaire surveys using the convenience sampling. The instruments used for this study were Spielberger's trait anger scale and anger expression scale, Cohen, Kamarck, and Mermelstein's perceived stress and Derogatis's SCL-90-R. The collected data was analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation coefficient, and Stepwise multiple regression with SAS/PC. Result: The trait anger of middle aged women indicated a significantly positive correlation to perceived stress(r=.180, p=.023) and mental health status(r.=021, p=.014). Anger-in(r=.237, p<.05), and perceived stress(p=.461, p<.01) showed significantly positive correlation to mental health status. The most significant predictor influencing health status of middle aged women was perceived stress, and anger-in and the variance explained was 27%. Conclusion: These results suggested that middle aged women with high degree of trait anger is likely to be high in stress perception. Perceived stress and anger-in are major factors influencing mental health status.
This study examined the mediating effects of irrational beliefs on the relationships of middle school students' autonomy of psychological growth environment and behavioral anger responses(impulsive reaction, verbal aggression, physical confrontation and indirect expression). A sample of 346 first and second year students of middle school participated in the autonomy of psychological growth environment scale, the irrational beliefs scale and behavioral anger responses scale. Pearson's correlation analysis and regression analysis were performed. The results showed that: ⑴ The relations among autonomy of psychological growth environment, irrational beliefs and behavioral anger responses were significant. The autonomy of psychological growth environment had negative correlations with irrational beliefs and behavioral anger responses. Irrational beliefs produced positive correlations with behavioral anger responses. There were positive correlations among the subtypes of behavioral anger responses. ⑵ There were mediating effects of irrational beliefs between autonomy of psychological growth environment and behavioral anger responses. The effects of autonomy of psychological growth environment on impulsive reaction, physical confrontation and indirect expression were fully mediated by irrational beliefs. However, the effect of autonomy of psychological growth environment on verbal aggression was partially mediated by irrational beliefs. This study demonstrated that irrational beliefs mediate the relationship between autonomy of psychological growth environment and behavioral anger responses.
The purpose of this study was identify the level of stress, anger and anger expression in the clinical setting and identify the relation ships between anger and stress of nursing students in the clinical setting. A convenient sample of 213 junior college of nursing students was used for the study. The data were analyzed by descriptive statistics and Pearson Correlation Coefficients. The results of this study were summarized as follows : 1. The average stress score in the clinical setting of subjects was 3.87. The higher level of stress in the clinical setting was 4.10 in domain of nurses, 4.10 in domain of human relationships, 4.07 in domain of report and 3.89 in domain of relationship between nursing theory and practice. 2. The average state-anger score of subjects was 1.54. 3. The average anger-out score of anger expression mode was 1.66 and 2.36 in anger-in. 4. The state-anger was found significantly related to stress of nursing students in the clinical setting (r=0.256 p<0.001). In the relationship between state- anger and stress in the clinical setting, environment, patient relationship, between nursing theory and practice, nurses, report, orientation were significantly positive correlation . 5. The anger-out of anger expression mode was not found significantly related to stress of nursing students in the clinical setting. 6. The anger-in of anger expression mode was found significantly related to stress of nursing students in the clinical setting (r=0.205 p<0.01). In the relationship between anger-in of anger expression mode and stress in the clinical setting, environment, patient, nurses, human relationships, conference were significantly positive correlation.
