The Estimating of Port Preference according to Customer′s Segmentation (고객 세분화에 따른 항만 선호도 비교분석)

  • In this paper, we estimate the difference of port preference and attributed importance by diving subjects of the survey into internal and external shipping companies considered as the main customers of port. From the results of conjoint analysis, it is found that there are differences in preference between domestic shipping companies and foreign ones. The difference in port preference shows; foreign shipping companies mark Shanghai port in the first place in the preference of transshipment port, while domestic shipping companies prefer Busan port. Similar results are applied to preference of rolling port. The result of the survey means it is necessary to group shipping company, when port is analyzed, because the port preference is subject to wether internal or external shipping companies. Also, it implies target marketing strategies should continuously be needed in order to maintain Busan port's preference gaining advantage over other ports and major target would be shipping companies.

  • This study was to analyze the visual preference of the port landscapes for North port in Busan. Preference related variables came from Semantic Differential(SD) method and then were conducted by the factor analysis. Multiple regression was done for the relationship between the preference and factors. The result found 4 factors, including dynamics, stability, pleasantness and healthiness. Much importance was placed on dynamics among them. Therefore, building port landscapes and their image attracting viewers should consider dynamics in terms of port landscape plan and user attraction development for visual quality management.

Estimating Container Traffic of New Incheon Outer-South Port Using Stated Preference Methodology (명시선호(Stated Preference) 방법에 의한 인천남외항 컨테이너 물동량 추정)

  • Traditional traffic forecast has employed regression analysis or time-series analysis based on past trends of explanatory variables. However, not existing but planned port facilities do not have historical data for traffic estimation. Consequently, arbitrary traffic allocation has been subject to researcher's intuition. In this paper, container throughput at New Incheon Outer-South Port will be estimated using stated preference(SP) and sample enumeration methodology on the basis of survey data about the choice behaviors of port users in a theoretical situation. In the SP survey, shippers, freight forwarders and carriers were required to answer a choice between two alternative ports: Busan and Incheon. Although total 27 scenarios of questionnaires were constructed with 3 levels of 3 explanatory variables, each interviewee was asked to answer for just 9 scenarios chosen at random. A binary choice logit model was applied to the survey data. The elasticity of travel time is estimated to be very high, implying that building New Incheon Outer-South Port could be effective in relieving the congestion of the Kyungin corridor. The analysis result shows that increasing service level at Incheon Port would bring in the substantial diversion of container cargo in the Capital region to Incheon Port from Busan Port.

항만 경관의 시각적 선호도 분석

An Examination of Location Choice for Free Trade Zone in Busan: the Preference Discrimination Score Approach (부산자유무역지역 입지선정 검증 -선호판별점수접근-)

  • The purpose of this paper is to introduce the new way of location choice for free trade zone in Busan area by using Obata and Ishii(2003) model of preference discrimination score. And also, this paper investigates the result of Choi, Bong-ho(200l) that deals with the choice of tariff free area in Busan area. Empirical main results are as follows: First, the North Port(Sinsundae)and the New Busan Port are efficient. Final winer of location choice for free trade zone is the North Port(Sinsundae). Second, the ranking result of this paper for 10 potential sites of free trade zone shows the almost similar to that of Choi, Bong-ho(200l). Policy planner for location choice of free trade zone should introduce the preference discrimination score method by Obata and Ishii(2003), because this method shows the very positive empirical results like questionaire method by expert groups and common people in Busan which should cause the much time and much money.

  • The number of calling ports has been decreased and the degree of inter- and intra-port competition has been increased, which is caused by the market trends that shipping liners have and operate their own terminals, strategic M & A frequency occurs among shipping liners, and container vessel size is increasing. The trends also cause shipping liners to change the evaluation factors for decision to call a particular port such as port preference, potential for growth, port competitiveness, etc. Since the decision of liners greatly influences the policies for port and terminal development, it is worth having interest in the evaluation factors. Therefore, this work intended to evaluate 8 major ports (Port of Singapore, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Busan, Rotterdam, Kaoshing, and Tokyo) with regard to liners' evaluation factors (calling port preference, potential for growth and port competitiveness) and to classify ports by similarity of evaluation factors with the methodologies of ANOVA analysis and Duncan test. The result shows implication for liners' viewpoint to evaluate major ports in the world.

Study on Analysis of Difference in Preference of Stakeholders in Port Gyeongin Using Conjoint Analysis (컨조인트 분석을 활용한 경인항 이해관계자의 선호도 차이분석에 관한 연구)

  • Port Gyeongin was developed as a multi-functional port equipped with container and general port facilities and could be linked with nearby tourist attractions. However, it has experienced difficulties from the limitation of being a small port, duplicating functions, and lacking an interlink with nearby ports. Nonetheless, resident companies that need logistics facilities in Port Gyeongin or nearby ports process specific import and export goods such as wood, steel, and industrial products through Port Gyeongin because of the characteristics of the port. From this perspective, it is critical to establish a measure to promote Port Gyeongin through utility analysis of the stakeholders in Port Gyeongin. In this regard, the purpose of this study was to analyze the preference of stakeholders in Port Gyeongin using conjoint analysis and propose a difference in the preference of the stakeholders. Study results show that the terminal group, shippers, and tenant companies considered the berthing capacity, incentive scale, and port logistics cost as the most critical matters, respectively. The stakeholders in Port Gyeongin should recognize the difference in critical matters, and be equipped with shipper discovery and institutional arrangement according to the characteristics of Port Gyeongin such as cooperation with related institutions and inter-collaboration between operating companies to promote Port Gyeongin.

  • Recently, the development construction of New Masan Container Terminal (1-1 Phase) with private investment would be set for opening in the 2011 year in Masan Port, Korea However, as new container terminals of the Pusan New Port and 'the New Ulsan Container Terminal neighboring Masan Port will be also planned to open around the time, the strategy establishment for Masan Port is required for a keen competition among these ports. To provide it with strategic points, we applied SP model used for customers' behavior method to analyze customer's preference changes with the shifts of the ports' conditions for customers.

  • .Ports are usually designed as a dead en port. With an increasing tendency of ship size, the problems such as maneuvering difficulty, turning basin, tugboat fee, etc. are getting to be pointed out. For solving such problem, the conversion of the idea fro dead end port to one-way through port is encourage. To examine the advantage of one-way through port, a quantitative and systematic analyzing procedure is needed. For this, this paper evaluated the preference on the three way of departture using the fuzzy measure and integral model.

  • The main purpose of this study is to design the port marketing strategies for strengthening the competitive power of container terminal. So far many attempts have been made to analyze the international competitiveness of the terminal. Six factors hypothesized by this study come from previous research analyses about customers preference for port selection. Those are Cost Centrality and Intermediacy Free trade port Inland transportation connections Political and Economic institution and Port facilities. this study analyzes the most important factors about hob port and transhipment port separately through questionnaire analysis about users(shipper shipping company and freight forwarder) influencing on port selection.
