Changes in the Number of Applicants and Mean Score and Applicants' Responses on the Test Items of 'Science Inquiry' of the CSAT (대학수학능력시험 '과학 탐구'의 응시자 수와 평균 점수 변화 및 문항에 대한 학생 반응)

  • This study investigated the trends in the number of applicants and mean score and applicants' responses on the test items of 'science inquiry' of the College Scholastic Ability Test(CSAT) implemented for 3 years$(1999\;{\sim}2001)$. The results of this study were as follows: The percentage of applicants of science track for 1995 CSAT were 43.13%, but reduced to 29.5% for 2001 CSAT. And unlike other tracks, the percentage of male applicants, ranking above average, of science track was 65.58%, which is about twofold of female applicants(34.42%). The mean score of 'Science inquiry' was 58.6 in 1999, and 69.5 in 2001. And the score of the applicants, ranking above average, of humanity and social science course and science course, were 85.8 and 90.7 respectfully in 2001 CSAT. These high mean scores were caused by the policy of "easy CSAT" so called. Most of test items were developed to have difficulty 60-79% or above 80%. This easy CSAT provoked intense dispute about the discriminating power of CSAT. The mean score of male applicants was higher than that of female. But the difference decreases every year. Applicants were generally very good at solving tests focusing on process skills only but poor at solving tests related to physics or calling for two or more science concepts. Thus special measures to cope with the decrease in applicants, especially female applicants, for science track should be provided. To increase discriminating power of CSAT, it is recommended to develop test items with wider range of difficulty and to reduce test items which are focussing process skills and can be solved without any special science concepts. And special consideration should be given to teaching the content area with poor achievement and high actual difficulty compared to the expected.

  • 전자상거래는 구매자와 판매자 모두에게 많은 이점을 제공할 수 있어 최근 이에 관한 연구들이 많이 진행되고 있다. 특히 중소제조업체의 경우, 전자상거래라는 경영환경의 변화는 새로운 기회로 다가오고 있어, 상대적으로 기술력이 취약한 중소제조업체의 전자상거래를 지원하기 위한 요소 기술들의 개발 필요성이 점차 부각되고 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 중소 금형제조업체의 판매과정을 사이버 공간에서 수행할 수 있는 전자상거래 기술을 개발하였다. 일반적으로 변화하는 경영환경에서는 생산과 관련된 계획과 통제가 보다 더 신속하고 정확하게 이루어져야 한다. 즉 전자상거래 환경에서의 제조업체는 구매자가 요구한 제품의 생산과 납기일을 맞추어 줄 수 있는지의 여부를 실시간으로 응답할 수 있어야 한다. 나아가서 인터넷을 통해 접수된 주문들은 해당 제조업체의 생산능력을 초과할 수 있는데 이 때에는 접수된 주문들 중에서 자사의 이익을 극대화할 수 있는 주문집합을 선별하여 접수여부를 결정해야 한다. 이와 같이 전자상거래 환경하에서의 제조업체는 생산과 관련된 정보를 신속하게 전달 받아 주문접수여부에 관한 의사결정을 올바르게 수행하는 것이 중요한데 본 연구에서는 중소 금형제조업체의 일정계획 및 주문처리를 위한 일정계획 기반의 선정 에이전트의 구조와 방법론을 제시하였다. 지금까지 일정계획에 관한 연구들은 대부분 납기일의 만족과 비용의 최소화 측면을 위주로 다루었다. 그러나 본 연구에서의 문제는 비용의 최소화보다는 납기일을 준수하면서 가장 많은 이익을 가져다 줄 수 있는 최적주문집합을 선정하는 문제를 다루고있다.자료를 수집하고, 통계분석 패키지를 이용하여 자료를 분석하였다. 방식을 결합한 하이브리드 형태이다.인터넷으로 주문처리하고, 신속 안전한 배달을 기대한다. 더불어 고객은 현재 자신의 물건이 배달되는 경로를 알고싶어 한다. 웹을 통해 물건을 주문한 고객이 자신이 물건의 배달 상황을 웹에서 모니터링 한다면 기업은 고객으로 공간적인 제약으로 인한 불신을 불식시키는 신뢰감을 주게 된다. 이러한 고객서비스 향상과 물류비용 절감은 사이버 쇼핑몰이 전국 어디서나 우리의 안방에서 자연스럽게 점할 수 있는 상황을 만들 것이다.SP가 도입되어, 설계업무를 지원하기위한 기본적인 시스템 구조를 구상하게 된다. 이와 함께 IT Model을 구성하게 되는데, 객체지향적 접근 방법으로 Model을 생성하고 UML(Unified Modeling Language)을 Tool로 사용한다. 단계 4)는 Software Engineering 관점으로 접근한다. 이는 최종산물이라고 볼 수 있는 설계업무 지원 시스템을 Design하는 과정으로, 시스템에 사용될 데이터를 Design하는 과정과, 데이터를 기반으로 한 기능을 Design하는 과정으로 나눈다. 이를 통해 생성된 Model에 따라 최종적으로 Coding을 통하여 실제 시스템을 구축하게 된다.the making. program and policy decision making, The objectives of the study are to develop the methodology of modeling the socioeconomic evaluation, and b

A Study on Assessment for Competitiveness of Port Hinterland (항만 배후부지 경쟁력 평가에 관한 연구)

  • Global companies regard the conditions of a location as one of the most crucial factors to assess the competitiveness of ports and the port hinterland, as well as emphasize creation of throughput and the importance of value added logistics in the hinterland under diffusing Supply Chain Management(SCM). This study deals with the evaluation of competitiveness in 7 hinterlands and the establishment of assessment model in hinterland. This study analyzes the importance of factors for the port hinterland competitiveness using AHP method. As a result, logistics factor, accounting for 62.3%, is shown as the relative more important factor, followed by hinterland's economy factors(27.3%) and city/policy factor(10.4%). The result implicates that measures to activate logistics factors with relatively high importance are essentially needed in order to improve the competitiveness of the hinterland of Busan New Port. Especially, it is needed to establish service routes of the port and air networks and to expand infrastructure for support. This study also assesses the competitiveness of hinterlands for the seven domestic and foreign ports based on importance of assessment factors for the hinterland competitiveness using AHP analysis. Busan(3.903) is ranked fourth behind Singapore(4.570), Hong Kong(4.357) and Shanghai(4.042) in assessment.

Estimation and Assessment of Future Design Rainfall from Non-stationary Rainfall Frequency Analysis using Separation Method (호우분리기법을 적용한 비정상성 빈도해석의 미래확률강우량 산정 및 평가)

  • This study aimed to estimate the future design rainfall through a non-stationary frequency analysis using the rainfall separation technique. First, we classified rainfall in the Korean Peninsula into local downpour and TC-induced rainfall through rainfall separation technique based on the path and size of a typhoon. Furthermore, we performed the analysis of regional rainfall characteristics and trends. In addition, we estimated the future design rainfall through a non-stationary frequency analysis using Gumbel distribution and carried out its quantitative comparison and evaluation. The results of the analysis suggest that the increase and decrease rate of rainfall in the Korean Peninsula were different and the increasing and decreasing tendencies were mutually contradictory at some points. In addition, a non-stationary frequency analysis was carried out by using the rainfall separation technique. The outcome of this analysis suggests that a relatively reasonable future design rainfall can be estimated. Comparing total rainfall with the future design rainfall, differences were found in the southern and eastern regions of the Korean peninsula. This means that climate change may have a different effect on the typhoon and local downpour. Thus, in the future, individual assessment of climate change impacts needs to be done through moisture separation. The results presented here are applicable in future hydraulic structures design, flood control measures related to climate change, and policy establishment.

Evaluation of Human Papillomavirus Genotyping from Formalin-fixed Paraffin-embedded Specimens in Cervical Cancers (자궁경부암 파라핀 조직에서 인유두종바이러스 유전형 검사의 유용성 평가)

  • Cervical carcinoma is the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths in women around the world, and it is associated with the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) infection. HPV genotyping is important for vaccine policy, etiology, natural history, and epidemiology studies. The use of formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tissues for HPV genotyping by reverse blot hybridization assays (REBA) has not been clearly confirmed in retrospective studies. The aim of this study was to evaluate the usefulness and efficiency of FFPE tissues from cervical cancers for HPV genotyping. HPV genotypes were detected in 52 FFPE tissues from cervical carcinoma specimens by REBA. HPV was detected in 32 (61.5%) of 52 specimens from FFPE, among which 27 (84.4%) harbored single infections and 5(15.6%) contained multiple infections. The HPV single infections (27) were analyzed by high-risk type 18(8), 58(6), 16(5), 33(1), 35(1), 39(1), 56(1) and low risk type 11(2), 6(1), 70(1).   • International societies are currently working together to achieve the Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA) initiative which aims the triple wins: (1) sustainably increasing agricultural productivity and incomes; (2) adapting and building resilience to climate change; and (3) mitigating greenhouse gases emissions. In terms of its scope and context, CSA follows the '3Nong (三農)' vision cast about 200 years ago by Dasan Jeong Yak-Yong who emphasized the triad of governance, management and monitoring towards comfortable, profitable and noble agriculture. Yet, the CSA provides the practical aims that facilitate the development of holistic indicators for quantitative evaluation and monitoring, on which decision-making support system is based. In this study, we introduce an agent-based model, i.e. Mathematical Programming Multi-Agent Systems (MP-MAS), as a tool for supporting the decision-making toward CSA. We have established the initial version of MP-MAS adapted for domestic use and present the preliminary results from an application to the rice farming case in Haenam, Korea. MP-MAS can support both farmers and policy-makers to consider diverse management options from multiple perspectives. When the modules for system resilience and carbon footprint are added, MP-MAS will serve as a robust tool that fulfills not only CSA but also Dasan's '3Nong' vision of sustainable agricultural-societal systems.

Outlook for a New International Agreement on Climate Change Adaptation: How to Approach (기후변화 적응의 신기후체제 합의: 전망을 위한 접근방법)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the major issues discussed among Parties and provide a framework for predicting the agreements on those issues, prior to the final negotiation on a new legally-binding agreement on climate change adaptation in the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). The analyses of documents, adaptation actions, and work of the Ad Hoc Working Group on the Durban Platform for Enhanced Action (ADP) under the UNFCCC informed that the adaptation issue has primarily been focused on the support of developed country Parties for the adaptation of developing country Parties following the principle of the Convention, Common but Differentiated Responsibilities and Respective Capabilities (CBDR-RC). Three-year work of the ADP acknowledged the major issues on adaptation in the new climate agreement, which would be categorized as long-term and global aspects, commitments/contributions/actions, monitoring and evaluation, institutional arrangements, and loss and damage. A final agreement on each issue could be predicted by setting a zone of possible agreement in-between the two extremes of developing and developed country Parties and considering three major elements affecting the Parties' positions, national priority, adaptation action, and social expectation, which are proposed in this study. The three major elements should be considered in a balanced manner by Parties to draw a durable agreement that will enhance global adaptation actions from a long-term perspective. That is, the agreement needs to reflect adaptation actions occurring outside the Convention as well as social expectations for adaptation. It is expected that the new agreement on climate change adaptation, from a long-term and global perspective, would be an opportunity to reduce vulnerability and build resilience to climate change by incorporating global expectations.

  • Invasive alien species are considered to be one of the main factors that cause biodiversity loss. Establishment of management strategies through continuous monitoring and risk assessment is a key element for invasive alien species management policy. In the present study, we introduce examples of ecological risk assessment tools developed in Japan, Germany-Austria and Belgium. Invasive alien species have been designated in Japan based on the assessment of risks to ecosystems, human health and primary industry. German-Austrian Black List Information System categorized alien species into Black List, White List and Grey List according to their risks to biodiversity. In the Harmonia Information System developed in Belgium, invasiveness, adverse impacts on native species and ecosystem functions and invasion stages were assessed and alien species were categorized into Black List, Watch List and Alert List. These international risk assessment tools may be helpful to improve our national risk assessment protocol for the prioritization of invasive alien species management.

  • It is an attempt to suggest the standard valuation method of the environmental illumination for the bridges across the Han-river from an aesthetic point of view, deviating from the technical and traditional viewpoint. In Korea the current evaluation criterion to verify the value of bridge design has a partiality for the technical and structural safety rather than the sentient beauty on the whole. However, the recently cultural reform of Korean mass society with the elevation of the standard of living forces the engineering designers for bridges to focus not only on competing physical structures but also on enhancing the formative beauty including the illumination effects for night view. Additionally, the new policy, which transforms the environments around the Han-river into the major tourist attractions has been executing strongly by the city authorities to revitalize the symbolic, historic, and cultural identity of the capital city with the introduction of the high-quality environmental illumination for the bridges. As a result, It becomes necessary to establish the manual and standardization of the environmental illumination planning for the city in terms of the formative beauty, and this study is to suggest the valuation model method of the environmental illumination for the bridges as the initial step of the standardization. In the study, the valuation items of the standard questionnaire are selected by the documentary records and the consultation of various experts in architecture, design, fine art, urban planning and even administration to verify the essential elements of the aesthetic beauty with the local amenity and the environmental harmony for the chosen bridges across the Han-river.

  • Traffic volumes are fundamental data widely used in various traffic analysis, such as origin-and-destination establishment, total traveled kilometer distance calculation, congestion evaluation, and so on. The low number of links collecting the traffic-volume data in a large urban highway network has weakened the quality of the analyses in practice. This study proposes a method to estimate the traffic volume data on a highway link where no collection device is available by introducing a spatial statistic technique with (1) the traffic-volume data from TOPIS, and National Transport Information Center in the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and (2) the navigation data from private navigation. Two different component models were prepared for the interrupted and the uninterrupted flows respectively, due to their different traffic-flow characteristics: the piecewise constant function and the regression kriging. The comparison of the traffic volumes estimated by the proposed method against the ones counted in the field showed that the level of error includes 6.26% in MAPE and 5,410 in RMSE, and thus the prediction error is 20.3% in MAPE.
