  • In this paper, a self-tuning controller design is proposed by using pole-zero placement method and considering a system time delay. To got better tracking for the generalized self-tuning controller, pole placement method for the closed loop system and zero placement method for the error transfer function are Introduced. The proposed method shows better efficiency than pole placement method for minimizing tracking error. Simulation gives good results in tie reference signal tracking.

  • An analysis is developed for the torque characteristics of single-phase induction motors having variable shaded-pole angles. The machanism have two sets of stator windings which one set of stator fed from single-phase sources and other shorted by inserted external impedances. Thus, by phisically rotating one set of stator windings with respect to the other, the only shaded-kpole effect torque performance of a single- phase induction machine and its performance prediction to be expected of the optimum shaded-pole angle can be achieved.

  • This paper deals with the magnetic equivalent circuit modeling and permanent magnet (PM) performance evaluations of a pole changing memory motor (PCMM). We use a coupled transient finite element method (FEM) and Preisach modeling, which is presented to analyze the magnetic characteristics of the permanent magnets. The focus of this paper is on the evaluation of characteristics such as the magnetizing direction and the pole number of the machine under re- and de-magnetization conditions.

  • Lighting system of road is an essential structure used for the safety of pedestrians and vehicles. Most of the lighting pole is made with steel which is vulnerable under corrosive environment. To overcome such corrosion problems, stainless steel and iron steel are used, but they are usually manufactured by hand which is not efficient. Due to their high strength and stiffness, when there is car collision with the lighting pole structure the safety of driver may not be ensured. Hence, the development of new-type lighting pole system which is easy to adjust the right on the road, lengthen the service life, and reduce the maintenance, is necessary. Lighting pole made with aluminum alloy is high in strength per unit weight, is strong against corrosive environment, and is easy to construct due to flexibility and right weight. But, because the strength and stiffness of the material is lower than that of steel, the structural safety and serviceability of the system can be a problem. To mitigate the structural problem associated with conventional lighting pole system, experimental investigation is conducted on the conventional lighting pole and rib reinforced aluminum alloy lighting pole, respectively. By comparison of results, it was found that the rib reinforced Mg-Si aluminum alloy lighting pole is efficiently applicable to the lighting pole system of road.

  • The electrochemical performance of positive pole grids of lead-acid batteries made of Pb-0.08%Ca-1.1%Sn alloys without and with 0.1 wt% of each of Cu, As or Sb and with 0.1 wt% of Cu, As and Sb combined was investigated by electrochemical methods in 4.0 M $H_2SO_4$. The corrodibility of alloys under open-circuit conditions and constant current charging of the positive pole, the positive pole gassing and the self-discharge of the charged positive pole were studied. All impurities (Cu, As, Sb) were found to decrease the corrosion resistance, $R_{corr}$ after 1/2 hour corrosion, but after 24 hours an improvement in $R_{corr}$ was recorded for Sb containing alloy and the alloy with the three impurities combined. While an individual impurity was found to enhance oxygen evolution reaction, the impurities combined significantly inhibition this reaction and the related water loss problem was improved. Impedance results were found helpful in identification of the species involved in the charging/discharging and the self-discharge of the positive pole. Impurities individually or combined were found to increase the self-discharge during polarization (33-68%), where Sb containing alloy was the worst and impurities combined alloy was the least. The corrosion of the positive pole grid in the constant current charging was found to increase in the presence of impurities by 5-10%. Under open-circuit, the self-discharge of the charged positive grids was found to increase significantly (92-212%) in the presence of impurities, with Sb-containing alloy was the worst. The important result of the study is that the harmful effect of the studied impurities combined was not additive but sometimes lesser than any individual impurity.

  • This paper analyzed the characteristics of the claw pole PM stewing motor by using 3D FEM. As the magnetization occurs along the z-axis of the motor, it is necessary to apply 3D FEM for analysis of the claw pole PM stewing motor. Considering the computation time, reducing the number of the analysis model is effective method of the methods of the reducing analysis time. By using the "Design Of Experiments(DOE)", efficient analysis was able to be done. To see the effects of the design factors, the 3D FEM is applied only to the selected models. As the design factors, the teeth selected models, the number of turns and the permanent magnet overhang was selected.

  • This paper deals with the method of characteristic analysis of the capacitor-run single- phase induction motor having two poles (4-pole and 2-pole). This motor, which is referred to as a pole change motor in this paper, is capable of variable speed operation without inverters or drives. However, speed-torque curve can be distorted by the harmonic components contained in the magnetic flux density distribution. Therefore, the characteristics of this motor are analyzed using equivalent circuit considering harmonic components and the simulation results are compared with the experimental results.
