  • Companies that want to improve their manufacturing processes have recently introduced the smart factory, which is particularly noticeable. The ultimate goal is to maximize the area of the smart factory that performs the process of the production facility completely with minimal manual control and to minimize errors of reasoning. This research is a part of a project for unmanned production, management, packaging, and delivery management and the detection of the start point of rebars to perform the automatic calibration of the rollers through the tracking of the automated facilities of unmanned production. It must meet the requirement to accurately track the position from the start point to the end point. In order to improve the tracking performance, it is important to set the accurate start point. However, the probability of tracking errors is high depending on environments such as illumination and dust through the conventional time-based detection method. In this paper, we propose a starting point detection method using the average brightness change of high speed IR camera to reduce the errors according to the environments, As a result, its performance is improved by more than 15%.

  • In this paper, we propose a system termed ForestLi that can accurately estimate the diameter at breast height (DBH) and tree height using LiDAR point cloud data. The ForestLi system processes LiDAR point cloud data through the following steps: downsampling, outlier removal, ground segmentation, ground height normalization, stem extraction, individual tree segmentation, and DBH and tree height measurement. A commercial system, such as LiDAR360, for processing LiDAR point cloud data requires the user to directly correct errors in lower vegetation and individual tree segmentation. In contrast, the ForestLi system can automatically remove LiDAR point cloud data that correspond to lower vegetation in order to improve the accuracy of estimating DBH and tree height. This enables the ForestLi system to reduce the total processing time as well as enhance the accuracy of accuracy of measuring DBH and tree height compared to the LiDAR360 system. We performed an empirical study to confirm that the ForestLi system outperforms the LiDAR360 system in terms of the total processing time and accuracy of measuring DBH and tree height.

  • This experimental study examines the applicability of polymer mortar permanent forms using a methyl methacrylate (MMA) solution of waste expanded polystyrene (EPS) to develop effective recycling processes for the EPS, referring to the flexural behavior of a polymer-impregnated mortar permanent form with almost the same performance as commercial products. An MMA solution of EPS is prepared by dissolving EPS in MMA, and unreinforced and steel fiber-reinforced polymer mortars are mixed using the EPS-MMA-based solution as a liquid resin or binder. Polymer mortar permanent forms (PMPFs) using the EPS-MMA-based polymer mortars without and with steel fiber and crimped wire cloth reinforcements and steel fiber-reinforced polymer-impregnated mortar permanent form (PIMPF) are prepared on trial, and tested for flexural behavior under four-point (third-point) loading. The EPS-MMAbased PMPFs are more ductile than the PIMPF, and have a high load-bearing capacity. Consequently, they can replace PIMPF in practical applications.

  • In this paper, we consider the change point problem in diusion processes based on discretely observed sample. Particularly, we consider the change point test for the dispersion parameter when the drift has unknown parameters. In performing a test, we employ the cusum of squares test based on the residuals. It is shown that the test has a limiting distribution of the sup of a Brownian bridge. A simulation result as to the Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process is provided for illustration. It demonstrates the validity of our test.

  • Burr is a projected part of finished workpiece. It is unavoidable and undesirable by-product of most metal cutting or shearing process. Also, it must be removed to improve the fit of machined parts, safety of workers, and the effectiveness of finishing operation. But deburring process is one of manufacturing processes that have net been successfully automated, so deburring automation is strongly needed. This paper focused on developing a basic algorithm to find edge of workpiece and match two different image data for deburring automation which includes automatic recognition of parts, generation of deburring tool paths and edge/corner finding ability by analyzing the DXF drawing file which contains information of part geometry. As an algorithm for corner finding, SUSAN method was chosen. It makes good performance in finding edge and corner in suitable time. And this paper suggested a simple algorithm to find matching point between CCD image and drawing file.

  • This paper presents measurement processes of rotational accuracy and comparison of theoretical values in the main bearing of scroll compressor. The main bearing is a type of oil journal bearing, but it has an axial or helical groove. The generalized coordinate system method, which can handle this groove, is applied to calculate the pressure profile in the journal bearing. The orbits of journal shaft are calculated corresponding to the compressed gas forces and bearing reaction forces. Then, the orbits are measured using three-point method. The results are compared to that from analyses.

  • The flash point is one of the most significant combustion properties of flammable liquids in industrial processes when evaluation process safety, In this paper, Cleveland open cup tester is used to measure the flash points for the two binary systems (n-propanol + formic acid and acetic acid + propionic acid). The measured flash points were compared with the values calculated by the Raoult's law and the optimization method using van Laar and Wilson equations. The calculated values based on the optimization method were found to be better than those based on the Raoult's law.

  • This study presents the decision of priority for optimal design guide to improve disassembly process. Disassembly process is divided into recognition, transfer and disassembly of assembly point and recognition, transfer and remove of grasp point. Significant influential factors are derived from analyzing the above process. And those factors are used for making the check list to evaluate the properties of parts in each process. Furthermore, the weight with considering disassembly process is also used to determine weight of each process. On the base of the above sequence, qualitative score of disassemblability of each process that is enabled to compare different disassembly processes can be acquired. Ultimately the score helps to decide the priority of design guide for disassembly process.

  • Simple tuning methods of PI, PD and PID controller are proposed for an integrating process with time delay. This is based on matching the coefficients of corresponding powers of s in the numerator and that in the denominator of the closed-loop transfer function. For set-point tracking problem, the derived controller is found to be a PD controller which is shown by Lee's tuning rule based on minimizing the performance indexes (ISE, IAE, ITAE) using a real-coded genetic algorithm. A method can be also proposed PI, PID controllers according to tuning parameter lambda $({\lambda})$ similar to IMC method. Simulation example is given to illustrate the set-point tracking and disturbance rejection performance of the proposed method.

  • Frequency domain has been used to detect chatter vibration and to decide commencing point of chatter for the milling processes. For this, power spectrum of accelerations signal is analyzed in the frequency domain. Also, the power spectrum and surface roughness are measured, compared, and evaluated according to the depth of cut by experimental works. As a results, it is known that the commencing point of chatter can be decided the behavior of the maximum amplitude of the power spectrum of acceleration signal and there is a correlation between the power spectrum of acceleration signal and the surface roughness. In conclusion, the power spectrum of acceleration signal can be used as a useful information for detec-tion and estimation of chatter vibration in machining.
