H-beam 로봇 절단용 3차원 시뮬레이터의 개발과 이를 이용한 절단 최적화에 관한 연구 (A Study on Development of 3-D Simulator for H-Beam Robot Cutting and Optimization of Cutting Using the Simulator)

  • H-beam used for stiffening the upper structure of ocean plant is cut in the various shapes. The cutting process of the H-beam is done manually and requires a long time and high cost. Therefore, automation of H-beam cutting is an important task. This research aims to develop a 3-D simulator to build the automatic H-beam cutting system and to determine the optimal cutting method. The automatic H-beam cutting system composes of 6 robots including 2 cutting robots hang to a crane and 1 conveyer. The appropriate system layout for covering the various sizes and types of H-beam was tested and determined using the simulator. The H-beam cutting system uses a hybrid type of plasma and gas cutting because of special cutting shapes of H-beam. The cutting area of each cutting method should be properly divided according to the size and shape of H-beam to shorten the total cutting time. Additionally the collision between a robot and a robot or a robot and H-beam should be avoided. The optimal cutting method for the shortest cutting time without the collision could be found for the various cutting conditions by use of the simulator. 2 simulation samples shows the availability of the simulator to find the optimal cutting method.

Plasma 고온가공법을 이용한 Inconel 718의 선삭가공에 관한 연구

  • An experimental study of hot machining has performed to improve themachinability of Inconel 718. This experiment used plasma arc for heating materials and Whisker-reinforced aluminum oxide ceramic tool insert. An assembled plasma heating system are described and experimental results obtained from bothconventional and plasma hot machining of Iconel 718 are compared. Turning experiments with plasma heating demonstrated the following effectiveness. 1) The cutting force was reduced with increasing surface temperature of workpiece from 450 .deg. C up to 720 .deg. C as much as approximately from 20 to 40%. 2) Surface roughness(Ra) was improved by as much as a factor 2 in case of one pass cutting with new ceramic tool inserts. 3) The depth of cut notchwear at primarycutting tool was singificantly reduced.

  • 절단 정반에 드로스가 과도하게 부착되면 강판의 수평 레벨에 차이가 발생하게 되어 절단 정도가 저하되며 절단 과정에서 발생하는 비산먼지, 분진, 흄 등의 집진 효율이 저하되어 작업 환경이 악화된다. 또한, 절단 과정에서 발생하는 철 용융물들이 정반 위로 비산되어 장비 및 제품의 손상이 발생할 수도 있다. 본 연구에서는 절단 정반에 부착되는 드로스의 제어를 통해 절단 정도 향상, 작업 환경 개선, 장비와 제품의 손상 방지, 절단 정반의 잦은 교체 비용 및 인력과 장비의 유휴시간 절감 등 생산성 향상에 기여하고자 하였다. 연구 방법으로는 우선, 강판 절단 시 발생하는 철 용융물로 인한 드로스가 정반에 부착되는 특성을 파악하기 위해 일련의 절단 실험을 수행하였다. 실험 결과를 토대로 절단 정반에 부착된 드로스를 효과적으로 제거하기 위한 장비의 개념 설계를 수행하고 사전 테스트를 통해 적용 가능성을 검토하였다. 최종적으로, 상세 설계를 통해 드로스 제거 시스템 및 운용 알고리즘을 개발하였으며 대형 플라즈마 아크 절단 장비에 설치 및 장기간의 현장 테스트를 통해 그 유용성을 확인하였다.

Performance assessment of HEPA filter against radioactive aerosols from metal cutting during nuclear decommissioning

  • Radioactive aerosols are produced during the cutting of contaminated and activated metals. They must be collected and removed by a high-performing filtration system before releasing to the environment from the decommissioning workplace. The filtration system requires regular replacement to ensure the sufficient removal of radioactive aerosols because its filtration efficiency gradually decreases. This study evaluates the efficiency and lifetime of filters while cutting metals by using a plasma arc cutter. Particularly, this study considers the aerodynamic diameter distribution of number and mass concentrations for aerosols from 6 nm to 10 ㎛ when evaluating the performance of filters. After 20 time reuses for cutting operation performed in a cutting chamber, the removal efficiency is reduced from over 99 to below 93% at 2 ㎛. The results are used to analyze the lifetime of filters, the frequencies of their replacements, and impact on internal radiation dose.

DLC박막을 코팅한 초경공구의 Al합금에 대한 절삭성능 향상 (Improvement of Cutting Performance of DLC Coated WC against Al Alloy)

  • Diamond-like-carbon (DLC) coatings could be good candidates as solid lubricants for cutting tools in dry machining of aluminum alloy. In this work, DLC thin films were produced as a friction reduction coating for WC-Co insert tip using the plasma immersion ion beam deposition (PIIED) technique. DLC coatings were also coated on $Al_2O_3$ specimens and high temperature wear tested up to $400^{\circ}C$ in dry air to observe the survivability of the DLC coating in simulated severe cutting conditions using a pin-on-disc tribotester with Hertzian contact stress of 1.3GPa. It showed reduced friction coefficients of minimum 0.02 up to $400^{\circ}C$. And cutting performance of DLC coated WC-Co insert tips to Al 6061 alloy were conducted in a high speed machining center. The main problems of built-up edge formation in aluminum machining are drastically reduced with improved surface roughness. The improvements were mainly related to the low friction coefficient of DLC to Al alloy and the anti-adhesion of Al alloy to WE due to the inertness of DLC.

Industrial application of WC-TiAlN nanocomposite films synthesized by cathodic arc ion plating system on PCB drill

  • Recently TiN, TiAlN, CrN hardcoatings have adapted many industrial application such as die, mold and cutting tools because of good wear resistant and thermal stability. However, in terms of high speed process, general hard coatings have been limited by oxidation and thermal hardness drop. Especially in the case of PCB drill, high speed cutting and without lubricant process condition have not adapted these coatings until now. Therefore more recently, superhard nanocomposite coating which have superhard and good thermal stability have developed. In previous works, WC-TiAlN new nanocomposite film was investigated by cathodic arc ion plating system. Control of AI concentration, WC-TiAlN multi layer composite coating with controlled microstructure was carried out and provides additional enhancement of mechanical properties as well as oxidation resistance at elevated temperature. It is noted that microhardness ofWC-TiA1N multi layer composite coating increased up to 50 Gpa and got thermal stability about $900^{\circ}C$. In this study WC-TiAlN nanocomposite coating was deposited on PCB drill for enhancement of life time. The parameter was A1 concentration and plasma cleaning time for edge sharpness maintaining. The characteristic of WC-TiAlN film formation and wear behaviors are discussed with data from AlES, XRD, EDS and SEM analysis. Through field test, enhancement of life time for PCB drill was measured.

중소조선용 철의장 가공자동화시스템 개발 (An Automated Machining System for Steel Flat Bar Plasma Cutting in the Small Sized Shipbuilding Industry)

  • 조선업종은 숙련공의 감소와 노동력 부족을 해결하기 위해 자동화와 기계화가 필요하다. 특히 조선용 핸드레일 제조공정은 표준화된 타 분야와 달리 자동화가 낙후되어 있다. 본 연구에서는 조선용 핸드레일 제작에 사용할 수 있는 철의장 가공자동화시스템을 설계하고 개발하였다. 시스템의 기구부는 절단공정의 효율성, 생산성, 안정성 등을 고려하여 설계하였고, CATIA 와 ANSYS를 사용하여 구조물의 안정성을 확인하였다. 시스템 제어부는 개방성과 확장성을 제공하는 PCNC 콘트롤러를 사용하였고, 터치스크린 방식의 화면 조작을 통해 시스템의 제어 및 모니터링을 할 수 있도록 구축하였다. 개발된 철의장 가공자동화시스템은 수차의 구동테스트 및 가공테스트를 통해 성능의 우수성을 입증하여 실용단계에 있다.

High resolution size characterization of particulate contaminants for radioactive metal waste treatment

  • To regulate the safety protocols in nuclear facilities, radioactive aerosols have been extensively researched to understand their health impacts. However, most measured particle-size distributions remain at low resolutions, with the particle sizes ranging from nanometer to micrometer. This study combines the high-resolution detection of 500 size classes, ranging from 6 nm to 10 ㎛, for aerodynamic diameter distributions, with a regional lung deposition calculation. We applied the new approach to characterize particle-size distributions of aerosols generated during the plasma arc cutting of simulated non-radioactive steel alloy wastes. The high-resolution measured data were used to calculate the deposition ratios of the aerosols in different lung regions. The deposition ratios in the alveolar sacs contained the dominant particle sizes ranging from 0.01 to 0.1 ㎛. We determined the distribution of various metals using different vapor pressures of the alloying components and analyzed the uncertainties of lung deposition calculations using the low-resolution aerodynamic diameter data simultaneously. In high-resolution data, the changes in aerosols that can penetrate the blood system were better captured, correcting their potential risks by a maximum of 42%. The combined calculations can aid the enhancement of high-resolution measuring equipment to effectively manage radiation safety in nuclear facilities.

  • 본 논문에서는 대기압 플라즈마 발생용 정현파펄스형 교류 전원 장치에 대한 연구를 진행하였다. 정현파펄스형 전원장치는 기존의 LC공진을 이용한 교류 전원장치보다 높은 dv/dt를 갖게 되므로 안정적인 플라즈마 공급이 가능하며 펄스형에 비해 고조파 노이즈가 적고, 정전류 턴온-영전압 턴오프 형태로 동작하므로 매우 높은 효율을 갖는다. 또한 플라즈마 점화 기능을 강화하고 안정적인 전압제어를 위해 3상 부스트형 컨버터를 입력단에 사용하여 입력 역률이 매우 높은 시스템을 구성할 수 있다. 실험실 수준의 10kW부하시설을 사용하여 본 연구의 결과를 입증하였다.

산업용 집진기 내부 유동분포에 관한 수치해석 (Numerical Analysis of Flow Distribution in Dust Collector of Industrial Plant)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the flow of a system that collects fumes in the plasma cutting machine widely used in industrial sites. A plan for improving the fume collection facility of an industrial plant using a large plasma cutter was investigated through flow analysis. Results show that it is effective to capture and suck fumes from a nearby cutter. If more hoods were installed near the cutter, fumes that were scattered internally could be removed effectively. In addition, if suction inflow was increased, the fumes could be removed more effectively.
