  • This study introduces the three-dimensional information about moving objects. Relative motion between textured objects and observer generates a time varying optic array at the image, from which image motion of contours can be extracted. Closed-form solutions are proposed for the structure and motion of planar and curved surface patches. The analytic solution for curved surface patches combines the transformation of Longuet-Higgins with the planar surface solution of Subbarao and Waxman. Ovoid patches are shown to construct a unique transform angle. Thus, ovoid patches almost always yield a unique 3D interpretation.

  • Two twin microphones may produce particular patterns of binaural directivity by time delays between twin microphones. The boundary element method (BEM) was used for the simulation of the sound pressure field around the head model in order to quantify the acoustic head effect. The sound pressure onto the microphone was calculated by the BEM to an incident sound pressure. Then a planar directivity pattern was formed by four sound pressure signals from four microphones. The optimal binaural directivity pattern may be achieved by adjusting time delays at each frequency while maintaining the forward beam pattern is relatively bigger than the backward beam pattern.

  • This paper describes an efficient optimal design method for an arrayed waveguide grating (AWG) with flattened transfer function. The objective function is the norm of the difference between calculated and target spectra. To analyze the AWG transfer function, the Fresnel-Kirchhof diffraction formula was employed and the design variable was optical path difference of each array waveguide. The (1+1) Evolution Strategy was applied to an eight-channel coarse wavelength division multiplexing (CWDM) AWG as the optimization tool. The optimized transfer function will considerably improve the system performance.

  • This paper describes the levitation mechanism using magnetic wheel for a maglev planar transportation system. Rotation of the magnetic wheel where the permanent magnet array is embedded produces the time varying traveling magnetic flux density and the generated magnetic flux density creates the induced levitation force and drag force with the conductor. Because the net drag force is zero, magnetic wheel can only generate the levitation force. Thus, it always guarantees the stability in levitation direction and it does not disturb other directional motion. In this paper, levitation principle of the magnetic wheel is analyzed using distributed field approach and dynamic characteristics of the levitation in the magnetic wheel system are estimated. The feasibility of the proposed levitation mechanism is verified through the several experimental works.

  • This paper describes the pattern synthesis method of two kinds of conformal array antenna using the Enhanced Adaptive Genetic Algorithm (EAGA). One is the $1{\times}16$ conformal array antenna on a curved cylindrical metallic surface with quadratic function, and the other is the 18-element conformal arrary antenna on a metallic surface obtained by the rotation of a quadratic function curve around the axis. The active element pattern is utilized in the pattern synthesis. Especially for the case of the rotated-type conformal array antenna the transformed active element pattern obtained from the Euler's angle rotation of the active element pattern of the planar concentric array is utilized, which reduces the synthesis time a lot. To verify the validity of the proposed synthesis method the MATLAB results are compared with the MWS results. Furthermore, for the case of $1{\times}16$ conformal array antenna the measured results are compared with the MATLAB synthesized results.

  • The cymbal transducer is a miniaturized version of the Class V flextensional transducer. It has low resonant frequency and high output pressure characteristics compared with its size. However, since it has high quality factor and low energy conversion efficiency as well, it is often used as an array rather than single. When used as an array, a big change in the frequency characteristics occurs in comparison with that of the single transducer due to the interaction between constituent transducers. In this study, we designed a pattern of cymbal array with a view to having broadband characteristics. Three transducers having different center frequencies were designed first. The designed cymbal transducers were used to construct all possible patterns of a 3 × 3 planar array. After analyzing frequency characteristics of these patterns, based on the results, we derived the most effective pattern to achieve a higher fractional bandwidth. The derived array pattern showed an improvement of the fractional bandwidth by 24.9 % in comparison with the reference model.

  • The design and implementation of planar Active Phased Array Antenna System are described in this paper. This Antenna system operates at X-band with its bandwidth 10 % and dual polarization is realized using dual slot feeding microstrip patch antenna and SPDT(Single Pole Double Through) switch. Array Structure is $16\times16$ triangular lattice structure and each array is composed of TR(Transmit & Receive) module with more than 40 dBm power. Each TR module includes digital attenuator and phase shifter so that antenna beam can be electronically steered over a scan angle$({\pm}60^{\circ})$. Measurement of antenna pattern is conducted using a near field chamber and the results coincide with the expected beam pattern. From these results, it can be convinced that this antenna can be used with control of beam steering and beam shaping.

  • Optical devices are used extensively in the field of information network. Increasing demand for optical device, optical interconnection has been a important issue for commercialization. However many problems exist in the interconnection between optical device and optical fiber, and in the case of the multi-channel, problems of the optical alignment and optical array arise. For solving the alignment and array problem of optical device and the optical fiber, we fabricated fiber alignment and array by using imprint technology. Achieved higher precision of optical fiber alignment and array due to fabricating using imprint technology. The silicon stamp with different depth was fabricated using the conventional photolithography. Using the silicon stamp, a nickel stamp was fabricated by electroforming process. We conducted imprint process using the nickel stamp with different depth. The optical alignment and array by fabricating the patterns of optical device and fiber alignment and array using imprint process, and achieved higher precision of decreasing the dimensional error of the patterns by optimization of process. The fabricated optical interconnection of PLC device was measured 3.9 dB and 4.2 dB, lower than criteria specified by international standard.

  • In this paper, a study on beam synthesis technique of conformal array was performed. It is applied to various radar systems that can perform beam steering without deterioration of performance due to beam steering in a general linear arrangement. Unlike the beam synthesis technique in the planar linear array, the conformal array has a radiation element located on a curved surface, so it is necessary to compensate for a difference in length from the radaation element to the wave front surface. In addition, by calculating the offset angle for each radiation element and applying it during actual synthesis, it was possible to predict an accurate beam pattern. In this paper, length compensation and offset angle were calculated and applied to beam pattern synthesis to perform beam pattern comparison, and performance was compared through mathematical analysis.

  • In this thesis, a two-dimensional active phased array antenna without phase shifter is studied for two-dimensional beam scanning. A designed two-dimensional oscillator-type active array antenna, radiation elements and the oscillator circuits were combined with via-hole and coupled by slot on the opposite ground plane. The operating characteristics are analyzed and experimentally demonstrated , The two-dimensional $4\times4$ elements were designed for the proper coupling strengths and coupling phases by adjusting the width, length and offset position of slot-lines. The fabricated active phased array antenna shows the beam shift characteristics capable of scanning from $-17^{\circ}$ to $18^{\circ}$ with respect to broadside in one dimension, from $-5^{\circ}$ to $10^{\circ}$ in two dimension. The experimental results show that it is possible to use the oscillator-type active phased array antenna as a two-dimensional planar array antenna.
