The purpose of this study is to understand the experiences of older adults living in the public welfare housing for the elderly and to examine what kind of this housing is as the housing alternative. Through the Robert Stake's intrinsic case study, it explored how older residents experienced this place, and how the relationships between residents, office workers, and community had been in the process, and what kind of issues were there. Various kinds of data, such as resident surveys, participant observations, interviews with 76 elderly residents and 4 office workers, and related newspaper articles, were analyzed using the thematic analysis method and methods suggested by Stake(1995). The results are presented as follows. First, it looked at who lived here and explored what was happening in this place where people of various backgrounds were gathered. Second, four types of life could be seen centering on the social relationship and daily life of older adults. Third, this study examined how the various ways of life were related to the main reasons for moving in here, and summarized how the residents perceived this place. The fourth and the fifth examined the relationships and dynamics among older residents, with office workers, and with the community, focusing on the two issues most commonly mentioned by residents. The results of this study show that, as a living organism, the interaction between the systems affects not only the culture of the housing, but also the lives of older adults. In particular, it can be seen how the perceptions of the practitioners are affecting the lives of the elderly. Based on the results of the study, further considerations were discussed.
This study aims to empirically analyze the role that perception of the probability of lonely death among the elderly people living alone plays in the relationship between perceived social support and preference for institutional care based on Andersen's expanded Behavioral Model (2002). The subjects (n=676) of this study were the elderly people living alone, extracted from the "2018 Seoul Aging Survey." With "perceived social support" as an independent variable, "preference for institutional care" as a dependent variable, and "perception of the probability of lonely death" as a mediator variable, we conducted a Binary Logistic Regression to follow the three steps of analyzing mediation effect, as suggested by Baron and Kenny (1986). The results showed that perceived social support has a negative effect on the preference for institutional care and perception of the probability of lonely death among the elderly people living alone; at the same time, perception of the probability of lonely death was found to have a positive effect on their preference for institutional care. Lastly, perception of the probability of lonely death was found to partially mediate the effect of perceived social support among the elderly people living alone in terms of their preference for institutional care. Based on these findings, the practical implications of this study can be summarized as follows. First, various programs and support should be provided to the elderly people living alone in order to enhance the level of perceived social support, a factor that has been confirmed to increase preference for institutional care among the elderly people living alone. Second, as the perception of the probability of lonely death was confirmed to be a psychosocial factor of the preference for institutional care, we need to promote education and support for older people living alone to prepare them for lonely death. These efforts are expected to form a foundations for implementing a community-based integrated care system, "Aging in Place," which is the policy direction required for older people care.

Background: Stage at diagnosis is one of the most important prognostic factors of breast cancer survival. Because in the breast cancer case this may vary with socioeconomic characteristics, this study was performed to recognize the relationship between demographic and socioeconomic factors with stage at diagnosis in Iran. Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional, descriptive study conducted on 526 patients suffering from breast cancer and registered in Cancer Research Center of Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences from 2008 to 2013. A reliable and valid questionnaire about family levels of socioeconomic status filled in by interviewing the patients via phone. For analyzing the data, Multinomial logistic regression, Kendal tau-b correlation coefficient and Contingency Coefficient tests were executed by SPSS22. Economic status, educational attainment of patient and household head and/or a combination of these were considered as parameters for socioeconomic status. First, the relationship between stage at diagnosis and demographic and socioeconomic status was assessed in univariate analysis then these relationships assessed in two different models of multinomial logistic regression. Results: The mean age of the patients was 48.3 (SD=11.4). According to the results of this study, there were significant relationships between stage at diagnosis of breast cancer with patient education (p=0.011), living place (p=0.044) and combined socioeconomic status (p=0.024). These relationships persisted in multiple multinomial logistic regressions. Other variables, however, had no significant correlation. Conclusions: Patient education, combined socioeconomic status and living place are important variables in stage at diagnosis of breast cancer in Iranian women. Interventions have to be applied with the aim of raising women's accessibility to diagnostic and medical facilities and also awareness in order to reducing delay in referring. In addition, covering breast cancer screening services by insurance is recommended.

As high schools implement credit completion system these days, concerns about the dissolution of classes, which are the original stable groups of studying and living, and the instability of the basal space, is growing due to the extended operation of moving optional classes. The purpose of this research is to understand the effect that environmental features of the basal space within the school and the operation method have on the students' space use and formation of attachment place within the school. For this, the main activity places, attachment places, school life satisfaction and others were investigated at 2 Japanese credit-based comprehensive high schools, which are different in the physical environmental features of school buildings. Based on this, a quantitative analysis about the distribution of activity places and attachment places was implemented. The space use features for each student attribute were compared, and the school life satisfaction for each type of attachment place formation was analyzed. As a result, the change of the territorial consciousness about the class space according to the implementation of moving optional classes could be understood. And it was confirmed that the students' space using behavior and place evaluation change according to the physical environmental feature of the class space and common space, and that this is affecting the life satisfaction of students.
The purpose of this study was to research buying behavior and home fashion preferences based on housing size. The target consumers were Korean women, aged 20~40s who reside in the Seoul & Kyunggido areas. We distributed questionnaires to 650 women. However, only 600 questionnaires were used for the statistical analysis. Data analyses were conducted with SPSS program on the frequency, Chi-square test, cluster analysis, t-test and ANOVA. The principle of aging-in-place should be fundamental in designing post-retirement homes to support baby boomers' healthy aging in their current living conditions. This study investigated Korean-American baby boomers' opinions about their life images in their post-retirement homes and the needs for supportive services therein. A questionnaire survey was conducted, and a total of 247 responses were used for statistical analyses. As the most important life image for their post-retirement homes, baby boomers emphasized the living environments offering various recreational activities. They indicated the post-retirement homes close to their children or family members as the next important life image. These opinions differed depending on their socioeconomic characteristics. In particular, baby boomers with higher-income preferred housing environments offering diverse recreational activities while those with lower-income preferred the housing close to more employment opportunities. In terms of supportive services available in the post-retirement homes, they wanted 'healthcare assistance services' and 'diverse recreational programs.' Gender, educational attainment, and annual income affected their preferences in these services, though. Based on the findings, this study concluded that post-retirement housing environments should create spaces to accommodate various recreational activities and include places for them to work in near-home environments. In the community, various need-based customized recreational activities and educational programs should be planned considering different socioeconomic characteristics of baby boomers. All these considerations will provide supportive residential environments for their successful aging in place.
