The Buckling Characteristics of Single-Layer Lamella Domes according to the Joint Flexibility under Construction (단층라멜라 돔의 시공 중 접합부 강성에 따른 좌굴특성)

  • Single-layer latticed domes with rigid-joint have an advantage in the construction cost and the aesthetic. But, in single-layer latticed domes, the joints are hard to discriminate between pin-joint and rigid-joint, and consisted of semi-rigid joint in practical. And the erection of large roof structures requires special techniques. As one of these special techniques is the Step-Up erection method. This paper verified buckling characteristics of single-Layer lamella domes according to the Joint flexibility under construction by Step-up method. The results are follows: As erection steps increase, the buckling strength decreases. It is occurred the joint buckling by snap through on the top of dome when the joint flexibility close the rigid. And large tensile stress distribution appeared in circumferential member of bottom boundary when the step of construction is low. As the step of construction increase, large compressive stress distribution showed in the top of dome.

A design of the microstrip phased array antenna with the slot-coupled structure for the base station of mobile communication (슬롯결합구조를 갖는 이동통신 기지국용 마이크로스트립 위상배열 안테나의 설계)

  • In this paper, the microstrip phased array antennas with coupling-slots for the base station of mobile communication is proposed and anlyzed with accurate analysis method which is based on both reciprocity principle and full-wave analysis. The basis functions used for the numerical analysis are determined depending upon the accuracy, convergence properties of the solution, and the computation time. The patch uses 3 EB mode and the slot uses IPWS mode. The designed phased array antenna has 8 slot-coupled microstrip patch array elements and the beam scanning capability is obtained by using the 4-bit PIN-diode phase shifters as switching devices which are consisted of the loaded line phase shifters for 30.deg. and 60.deg. and the reflection type phase shifters for 90.deg. and 180.deg. repectively. The 4-bits phase shifters which aremade by connecting each phase shifter have about 2.deg.-3.deg. phase errors and their insertion loss are about 3dB for each phase state. The fabricated 8-element phased array antenna with 4-bits phase shifters provides 12.deg.-14.deg. beamwidths depending on the scanning angle and is capable of scanning its beam to .+-.45.deg. with 9.deg. intervals, and the gain 12dBi. The overall results show that the slot-coupled phased array antenna has great advantages of wideband, high gain and reduced spurious radiation. Also, the antenna can be made small and thin. Furthermore, the scanning property of this antenna allows for its application in several areas, such as mobile communication system and PCS.

Effect of Oxygen Pressure on the Structure Properties of Mg0.5Zn0.5O Thin Films Grown by Pulsed Laser Deposition (PLD 법으로 증착된 Mg0.5Zn0.5O 박막의 산소 분압 변화에 따른 구조적 특성)

  • In this work, we study on the effects of the oxygen pressure on the structural and crystalline of MgZnO thin films. MgZnO thin films were deposited on p-Si (111) substrates by using pulsed laser deposition. The X-ray diffraction analysis and energy-dispersive X-ray results revealed that as the oxygen pressure increased and Mg content in the MgZnO films decreased. Also Crystal structure was changed from cubic rock salt to hexagonal wurtzite. Alpha step and atomic force microscopy results showed that the thickness of the films are about 100 nm, and it has been found that the MgZnO (002) preferred orientation were deposited with increasing the oxygen pressure. Therefore, the effect of the preferred orientation, the crystallization grew in the form of the columnar; Grain size and RMS of the films were increased with increasing oxygen pressure.

An Experimental Study on Flexural Behavior of RC Beams Strengthened with Hi-Strength Bars(3) (고장력 인장봉으로 보강된 RC 보의 휨 거동에 관한 실험적 연구(3))

  • Unlike external bonded steel plate or carbon fiber, the external unbonded strengthening using hi-strength bar has some advantages in speed and simplicity of installation. It is not required surface preparations and not affected by environmental conditions. A set of nine laboratory tests on RC beams strengthened using the hi-tension bars are reported. Anchoring pin developed in former research is installed at the end of beam to connect the hish-tension bar to RC beam. The test results strengthened by hi-tension bars are compared with those of non-strengthened specimens. The main test parameters are the cross-sectional area of the high-tension bar, distance of stirrups and condition of supports. Test results show that the beams reinforced are superior to reference specimens, especially for the strength and deformation capacity. Also, shear resisting effect of hi-strength bar can be confirmed in the specimens which have lack of stirrups.

  • Currently existing high-accuracy and high-speed die sets used in reciprocal press create scratches at the surface of guide posts, steel balls, and bushes due to vertical movement of balls with point-contacts between inner surface of bushes and guide posts. Consequently, accuracy of the die set and the life span of the metal mold are reduced. However, those scratches could reduce the pre-load of the steel ball. This research designed and developed a groove-type die set which improves life span of the die set by eliminating point-contacts of steel balls with guide posts. The guide post consisted of a steel-ball retainer, a steel-ball retainer stopper, a guide bush, a guide pin, a snap ring, and a spring. The steel-ball retainer has 72 holes with 8 columns of 9 holes in each column. The inner surface of the guide bush was grinded(surface roughness: $Ra\;\\;0.2{\mu}m$, accuracy: $0\;{\sim}\;-0.002mm$) after NC turning and heat treatment. Also, a line of small intermediate pocket was processed inside of the guide bush for lubrication and elimination of foreign materials. Guide grooves of steel balls were processed using a wire EDM(Electrical Discharge Machining) after heat treatment. With such a design of the guide post stated above, loads against steel balls could be dispersed greatly by the line contacts through the guide groove between the guide post and the guide bush, and the life span of the guide post could be expanded semi-permanently.

  • The material of database for speech recognition should include phonetic phenomena as much as possible. At the same time, such material should be phonetically compact with low redundancy[1, 2]. The phonetic phenomena in continuous speech is the key problem in speech recognition. This paper describes the processing of a set of sentences collected from the database of 1993 and 1994 "People's Daily"(Chinese newspaper) which consist of news, politics, economics, arts, sports etc.. In those sentences, both phonetic phenometla and sentence patterns are included. In continuous speech, phonemes always appear in the form of allophones which result in the co-articulary effects. The task of designing a speech database should be concerned with both intra-syllabic and inter-syllabic allophone structures. In our experiments, there are 404 syllables, 415 inter-syllabic diphones, 3050 merged inter-syllabic triphones and 2161 merged final-initial structures in read speech. Statistics on the database from "People's Daily" gives and evaluation to all of the possible phonetic structures. In this sentence set, we first consider the phonetic balances among syllables, inter-syllabic diphones, inter-syllabic triphones and semi-syllables with their junctures. The syllabic balances ensure the intra-syllabic phenomena such as phonemes, initial/final and consonant/vowel. the rest describes the inter-syllabic jucture. The 1560 sentences consist of 96% syllables without tones(the absent syllables are only used in spoken language), 100% inter-syllabic diphones, 67% inter-syllabic triphones(87% of which appears in Peoples' Daily). There are rougWy 17 kinds of sentence patterns which appear in our sentence set. By taking the transitions between syllables into account, the Chinese speech recognition systems have gotten significantly high recognition rates[3, 4].   • Japanese pepper (Zanthoxylum piperitum Dc.) tree of selected genotype was propagated by a two-step method. Among the media tested, BTM promoted shoot height growth and DKW revealed as superior to micro-canopy increment Multiple shoot formation was greatest when the single shoot were subcultured on medium containing 0.89 $\mu$M BA alone. The numbers of survival shoots could be markedly increased by acclimatization of the multiplied shoots itself in plastic Petridish (punctured with pin on the top) for two weeks and subsequently transplanting each shoot onto peat plug system. After transplanting the micropropagules onto pots, prickliness characteristics seem to be transmitted to all plane produced from selected genotype.

  • This paper presents the design of reconfigurable frequency selective surfaces for X-band bandpass operation with improved isolation. The proposed reconfigurable FSS is composed of a four-legged loaded element, a inductive stub and a bias grid. The PIN diode is located between the four-legged loaded element and the stub, which can control the frequency response of reconfigurable FSS by ON/OFF state. By adjusting the length of the stub, the desired bandpass frequency and the improved isolation between ON and OFF state can be obtained. For validation of simulated results, we have carried out transmission characteristic measurements using rectangular waveguide of WR-90. The measured results are in good agreements with the simulated results.

A Study on Strength Prediction of Mechanical Joint of Composite under Bending Load (굽힘 하중을 받는 복합재 기계적 체결부의 강도예측에 관한 연구)

  • This paper predicted the strength of mechanical joint of composites under bending load by means of the characteristic curve method. The method has been employed only for tensile and compression load conditions, but in this study, this method was extended to the bending load condition. For the finite element analysis (FEA), the nonlinear analysis was conducted considering the contact and friction effects between composite material and pin. The failure strength and mode on characteristic curve were evaluate with Tsai-Wu failure theory. To validate the results of FEA, the experiments were conducted to find out the failure load by applying bending moment on the composite specimens. The results showed reasonable agreements with theoretical results. These results lead to a conclusion that the characteristic curve method can be applied to predict the bending strength of mechanical joint of composites.

  • Biometric-based authentication can provide strong security guarantee about the identity of users. However, security of biometric data is particularly important as the compromise of the data will be permanent. In this paper, we propose a secure and efficient protocol to transmit fingerprint images from a fingerprint sensor to a client by exploiting characteristics of fingerprint images. Because the fingerprint sensor is computationally limited, however, such encryption algorithm may not be applied to the full fingerprint images in real-time. To reduce the computational workload on the resource-constrained sensor, we apply the encryption algorithm to a specific bitplane of each pixel of the fingerprint image. We use the LSB as specific bitplane instead of MSB used to encrypt general multimedia contents because simple attacks can reveal the fingerprint ridge information even from the MSB-based encryption. Based on the experimental results, our proposed algorithm can reduce the execution time of the full encryption by a factor of six and guarantee both the integrity and the confidentiality without any leakage of the ridge information.
