The purpose of this study was to identify factors influencing physical activity of foreign workers based on a Health Promotion Model by examining relationships between acculturation, perceived benefits, perceived barriers, exercise self-efficacy, activity-related affect, social support, and physical activity. Methods: The participants were foreign workers aged 18 to 60 who were employed at eight shipyards. A questionnaire was distributed to 216 participants. Results: As a result of the multivariate ordinal logistic regression analysis, factors affecting physical activity of foreign workers were perceived benefits (B=.65, 95% CI=0.08~1.22), exercise self-efficacy (B=.16, 95% CI=0.05~0.26), integration (B=.41 95% CI=0.14~0.69), and social support for physical activity (B=.48, 95% CI=0.12~0.83). The total explanatory power was 17.7% (x2=41.95, p<.001). Conclusion: Based on these results, there is a need to develop a customized program to increase physical activities of foreign workers by enhancing integration, perceived benefits, exercise self-efficacy and social support.

  • Purpose : In this study, a group art therapy program was applied to mothers who are the main rears of disabled children to confirm its effect by comparing the self-esteem and parenting efficacy of the mothers prior to and after the program. Methods : 17 subjects recruited by using the 2-group prior-after control group study design method were randomly allocated. The study was conducted on 8 subjects in the experimental group for whom an art therapy program is applied and 9 subjects in the control group. The experimental group was subjected to group art therapy lasting 60 minutes once a week. Activity goals and contents were predetermined for each subject for each session, and a total of 10 sessions of the program was applied for 10 weeks. Self-esteem and parenting efficacy prior to and after the program of the subjects were measured by using corresponding self-esteem and parenting efficacy scales. Measurement data were analyzed by using the Mann-Whitney Test. Results : It was possible to observe that the self-esteem and parenting efficacy of the subjects in the experimental group to whom the art therapy program was applied underwent more significant changes in comparison to those of the control group (p<.01). Conclusion : Group art therapy induces social support experiences of group therapy and an improvement of an assertive attitude towards art therapy. Since there was a significant improvement of self-esteem and parenting efficacy in the results of this study when the group art therapy program is applied, it is believed its clinically meaningful application would be possible. In particular, it can be utilized in programs for disabled children in a family unit from the perspective that it improves parenting efficacy, which can impart an affirmative effect not only to the main rear but also to all the family members.

  • The purpose of this study were to examine the construct validation and internal reliability of the SHEQ(School Health Efficacy Question- naire)and to establish concurrent validity for the instrument among Korean adolescents by relationship found among SHEQ and the self-reported health status. The sample was consisted 393 high school students, aged with average of 17.40(±0.59) years. According to the criteria used in this validating study, a four-factor structure, which consisted of 31-items, resulting from a principal components analysis with an varimax rotation, best represented the multidimensionality of the SHEQ of adolescents in Korea. Internal consistency estimated for the four factor on the SHEQ subscales range from .68 to .83. Evidence in support of concurrent validity for both 31-item and 38-item of SHEQ was provided by statistically significant correlations found between the two scales and self-reported health. With the findings of this study, the 31-item Korean version of the SHEQ can be used in practice as a reliable and valid instrument measuring perceived self-efficacy in physical and mental health for adolescents in Korea.
