  • The study is aimed to investigate the relationship between physical competence and physical education class satisfaction. For this purpose, 556 questionnaires were used for the final analysis by using convenience extraction method for middle and high school students. For statistical analysis, descriptive statistics for each factor were presented using PASW ver. 18.0 program, and exploratory factor analysis and reliability analysis were conducted for factor extraction and item internal consistency confirmation. Furthermore, a multiple regression analysis was conducted to clarify the relation between physical competence and satisfaction of class, and the results were as follows: First, feedback factors influenced the relationship between physical competence and teaching behavior. Second, athletic performance, victory, peer comparison factor, etc. influenced the relationship between physical competence and satisfaction of class. Third, the feedbacks and the experience factors influenced the relationship between the physical competence and the physical environment. Fourth, feedback factors also influenced the relationship between physical competence and athletic ability.

This program will provide parents and children with information on how to prevent sexual abuse in children. Children learn specific methods to avoid being victimized both at home and outside the home through a learning game and simulation, which is based on problem solving. Method: This program was developed based on a literature reviews, surveys and negotiation process. School- aged-children, parents, and teachers were interviewed to reveal their educational needs based on their experiences related to sexual abuse. Result: This program includes useful subjects such as safety education, early detection of sexual abuse, crisis management, resource persons, and phone numbers of available hospital. Counseling is provided by researcher or by a pediatric psychiatrist if needed. Conclusion: This program could be adequately utilized for prevention of sexual abuse of children. It also will provide an intervention strategy for abused children. This educational program was distributed to all of the elementary school through the Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development.

  • The aim of this study was to examine the effects of an after-school basketball training program of 12 weeks on physical abilities (grip strength, endurance, and flexibility) and learning-related factors (cognition strength, cognition speed, concentration, and mental workload) in middle school students. Middle school students (Males, N=20) were recruited for use in this study and were randomly divided into either a basketball training group (n = 10, BT) or a non-exercise control group (n = 10, CON). Two-way repeated measures ANOVA with post-hoc testing was used for data analysis. Results found endurance and flexibility in the BT group were significantly increased, but not in the CON group. In addition, cognition strength, speed, and concentration in the BT group increased and mental workload in the BT group slightly decreased. In contrast, the CON group showed a significant increase in mental workload. Our findings show that participation in after-school physical education activities (e.g., basketball training program) positively improves physical abilities and increases brain functions for learning.

  • Purpose: This study examined the effects of taekwondo exercise program on the physical function, fitness and quality of life in women with osteoarthritis. Methods: With nonequivalent control group quasi-experimental design, 17 outpatients with osteoarthritis were recruited from June to August, 2010. The subjects were divided into 14 in experimental group and 13 in control group. The taekwondo exercise program was consisted of public taekwondo gymnastics with stretching movement and carried out every 60 minutes, 2 times a week for 12 weeks. Physical fitness of sit up, sit and reach, and agility, KWOMAC, and quality of life were measured. Data were analyzed by t-test and Mann-Whitney test using SPSS program. Results: After the intervention, the physical fitness for muscle endurance (Z=-4.40, p<.001), flexibility (Z=-2.75, p=.006), and agility (Z=-1.95, p=.050) were significantly improved in the experimental group. The mean scores of KWOMAC in the experimental group were significantly decreased (Z=-2.94, p=.003) and the mean difference of quality of life in the experimental group was also significantly increased than that of the control group (Z=-3.50, p<.001). Conclusion: The taekwondo exercise program may have affirmative effects on physical fitness, physical function, and quality of life in women with osteoarthritis.

  • This study was conducted to examine the effects of physical activity programs on young children's body composition, physical fitness, blood lipids, and growth-related factors. Fourteen young male child subjects participated in this study. Experimental groups were divided into a young obese children group (OG; n=7) and a young normal weight children group (NG; n=7). The subjects performed supervised physical activity programs with moderate intensity for 12 weeks, 40 minutes per session, 3 times per week. The results of this study are as follows: HDL-C, growth hormone, and IGF-I were significantly increased in NG, but OG was showed no changes. Physical fitness was significantly increased in both NG and OG. This study demonstrated that physical activity programs have a positive effect on the prevention of obesity, as well as a positive effect on growth and development in young normal weight children. However, long-term follow-up studies are necessary to clarify the additive effect of exercise program with behavior modification in young obese children.
