인스타그램 외모관련 사진활동, 외모비교가 신체만족도에 미치는 영향 -인스타그램 중독수준의 조절효과를 중심으로- (The Effects of Appearance-Related Photo Activity and Appearance Comparison on Body Satisfaction -Focusing on the Moderating Effects of Instagram Addiction-)

  • Social media is an essential part of everyday life in modern society and plays an important role in communicating the ideal body image. With the increased prevalence and high popularity of social media, the problems associated with the addictive use of social media have become a social issue. Utilizing social comparison theory, this study examined (1) the effect of appearance related photo activities on body satisfaction through appearance comparison and (2) the moderating effect of Instagram addiction in relationships among appearance related photo activity, appearance comparison, and body satisfaction. We tested the proposed relationships between research variables using multi-group structural equation modeling analysis on a sample of 346 young female Instagram users. The sample was divided into two groups of high and low addicted Instagram users. The results of this study showed that the appearance related photo activity positively influenced appearance comparison for both high and low addiction groups. For the high addiction group, the effect of appearance comparison on body satisfaction was not statistically significant; however, this relationship was significant and negative for the low addiction group. A significant moderating effect of Instagram addiction was found in the relationship between appearance related photo activity and appearance comparison.

  • The present study purported to understand the relationships between SNS appearance-related photo activity, body image and self-esteem among young women. Objectification Theory and Social Comparison Theory explain the process how young women's SNS appearance-related photo activity influence their body satisfaction through a perceived media pressure, objectification of their own bodies and appearance comparison. These process ultimately affect the self-esteem of young female users. A research model was proposed and related hypothesis were examined. We collected an online questionnaire from 400 female participants in their 20's. Data were analyzed using SPSS 23.0 and AMOS 18.0. Structural equation modeling analyses suggested that the proposed research model provided a good fit to the data and supported most hypothesis. The results indicated that the level of SNS appearance-related photo activity significantly influences young female user's body satisfaction and self-esteem. The findings of this study were consistent with previous literature on media and body image. Limitations and future research suggestions were also described.

  • A photo-labile compound which is bioinactive but, upon irradiation with light, yields bioactive species is called as "caged compound". Photolysis of caged compounds generating bioactive species, has become a general method to produce a desired amounts of bioactive species in the specific time interval at the desired place or area of the target biological systems. For this purpose, we designed and synthesized caged hydroxyl radical., "Photo-Fenton Reagent" NP-IIl. NP-IIl has a strong absorption maximum at 377 nm and yields hydroxyl radicals upon UV light irradiation. The antioxidant activity of the ${\alpha}$ -lipoic acid and other naturally occurring compounds has been examined by using NP-IIl as a molecular probe. For example, upon photoirradiation of NP-lII with BSA or apolipoprotein of human low density (LDL), the significant oxidative modifications were observed in both cases. The oxidation was completely suppressed in the presence of ${\alpha}$-lipoic acid, which clearly demonstrates the strong hydroxyl radical scavenging activity of ${\alpha}$-lipoic acid. Theoretical Studies on the Photo-Skinsensitizing Psoralens (I)

  • The electronic structure of photo-skinsensitizing psoralens has been investigated by the FMO method. On the basis of theoretical calculations, optimum value of indices (Ft=0.33) has been proposed which corresponds to the sum of frontier electron density. The results indicate that this index is closely correlated with photo-skinsensitizing carcinogenic activity. The formations of molecular complexes between DNA and photo-skinsensitizing carcinogens is discussed in terms of charge transfer interactions.

Enhancement of Photo-reduction of Water by Exploiting Zn Doped Mesoporous $TiO_2$

  • Zn-doped $TiO_2$ mesoporous microspheres with high photocatalytic activity were synthesized via combined sol-gel and solvothermal methods for photocatalytic water splitting. It is found that the photocatalytic water splitting and photocatalytic degradation activity can be enhanced by doping an appropriate amount of Zn. Our results reveal that Zn doping inhibits the recombination of photo-generated charge carriers of $TiO_2$ and improves the probability of photo-generated charge carrier separation and hence the photocatalytic activity of $TiO_2$.

  • Ultraviolet (UV) radiation causes inflammation and matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) over-expression and extra cellular matrix depletion, leading to skin photo-aging such as wrinkle formation, dryness, and sagging. In this study, we demonstrated that pretreatment with the hexane extract of microalgae protects UVB mediated cell damages. The results of clinical study showed that Microalgal Oil treated group reduced wrinkle and improve elasticity. All these results suggest Microalgal Oil may be useful as new photo-aging cosmetics for protection against UV induced activity.

Photoprotective Effects of Minerals from Korean Indigenous Ores on UVA-irradiated Human Dermal Fibroblast

  • The photoprotective effects of minerals from Korean indigenous ores, consisting mainly of sericite, on UVA-irradiated human dermal fibroblast (HDF) were examined. Zymographic analysis showed that the treatment of the minerals significantly reduced the UVA-enhanced MMP-1 activity and mRNA level. The minerals also showed strong inhibitory effect on MMP-2 activity and mRNA expression. Moreover, the minerals were better than polyphenol in reducing MMP-1 and MMP-2 expressions. Notably, the minerals significantly enhanced collagen biosynthesis in the HDF. Inhibition of the elastase activity and protection against the oxidatively damaged HDF cell were also found in the presence of the minerals. Taken together, the ore minerals may be used as the potent photo-protective and anti-skin-aging ingredients which can prevent skin cell damage by UVA.

Photonic Aspects of MB Degradation on Fe-carbon/TiO2 Composites under UV Light Irradiation

  • Fe-carbon/$TiO_2$ composites were prepared by a sol-gel method using AC, ACF, CNT and $C_{60}$ as carbon precursors and were characterized by means of BET surface area, X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX). The activity of the prepared photocatalysts was investigated by degradation reaction of methylene blue (MB) irradiated with UV lamp. Effects of different carbon sources and irradiation time on photocatalytic activity were also investigated. The results showed that the photocatalytic activity of the Fe-carbon/$TiO_2$ composites was much higher than that of pristine $TiO_2$ and Fe/$TiO_2$ composites. The prominent photocatalytic activity of Fecarbon/$TiO_2$ composites could be attributed to both the effects of photo-adsorption and electron transfer by carbon substrate. In addition, the higher photocatalytic activity of Fe-carbon/$TiO_2$ composites can be compared with that of carbon/$TiO_2$ and Fe /$TiO_2$ composites due to cooperative effects between Fe and carbon.

사회공헌활동 기사 맥락과 뉴스형태 및 광고종류에 따른 광고효과 (A study of advertisement effect according to the context, news type, and advertisement type of social contribution activity article)

  • 기업의 많은 이슈들은 뉴스가치를 부여 받으며 인터넷에 기사화되고 있다. 이러한 관점에서 웹 콘텐츠 내에 게재된 기사의 맥락과 배너광고의 노출 그리고 뉴스의 형태에 따라 광고태도와 기업이미지에는 어떠한 차이가 있는지 확인하고자 하였다. 연구결과 다음과 같다. 첫째, 인터넷의 사회공헌활동 기사 맥락과 뉴스형태에 따른 광고태도는 상호작용효과가 확인되었으며, 인터넷 기사의 맥락이 부정적일 때는 사진과 기사를 함께 제공한 뉴스형태에서 광고태도가 더 효과적인 것으로 확인되었다. 이러한 결과는 인터넷의 사회공헌활동 기사 게재 시 사진과 기사가 함께 제공되어 혼잡도가 더 높아짐에 따라 인터넷 기사의 부정적 맥락이 상쇄되는 것으로 유추된다. 둘째, 사회공헌활동 기사의 뉴스형태와 광고종류에 따른 광고태도는 상호작용효과가 확인되었으며, 인터넷 뉴스기사 게재 시 기사와 사진을 함께 제공하는 뉴스형태에서는 기업광고가 제품광고보다 광고태도가 더 효과적인 것으로 확인되었다. 셋째, 사회공헌활동의 뉴스형태와 광고종류에 따른 기업이미지는 상호작용효과가 있는 것으로 확인되었다. 인터넷 기사 게재 시 기사와 사진을 함께 게재한 뉴스형태에서는 기업광고 보다 제품광고를 게재할 경우 기업이미지에 더 효과적인 것으로 확인되었다.

Adenophora remotiflora protects human skin keratinocytes against UVB-induced photo-damage by regulating antioxidative activity and MMP-1 expression

  • BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Chronic ultraviolet (UV) exposure-induced reactive oxygen species (ROS) are commonly involved in the pathogenesis of skin damage by activating the metalloproteinases (MMP) that break down type I collagen. Adenophora remotiflora (AR) is a perennial wild plant that inhabits Korea, China, and Japan. The present study investigated the protective effects of AR against UVB-induced photo-damage in keratinocytes. MATERIALS/METHODS: An in vitro cell-free system was used to examine the scavenging activity of 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) free radical and nitric oxide (NO). The effect of AR on ROS formation, antioxidant enzymes, elastase, MMP-1 level, and mRNA expression of MMP-1 were determined in UVB-irradiated human keratinocyte HaCaT cells. RESULTS: AR demonstrated strong DPPH free radical and NO scavenging activity in a cell-free system exhibiting $IC_{50}$ values of 1.88 mg/mL and 6.77 mg/mL, respectively. AR pretreatment dose-dependently attenuated the production of UVB-induced intracellular ROS, and antioxidant enzymes (catalase and superoxide dismutase) were enhanced in HaCaT cells. Furthermore, pretreatment of AR prevented UVB-induced elastase and collagen degradation by inhibiting the MMP-1 protein level and mRNA expression. Accordingly, AR treatment elevated collagen content in UVB-irradiated HaCaT cells. CONCLUSION: The present study provides the first evidence of AR inhibiting UVB-induced ROS production and induction of MMP-1 as a result of augmentation of antioxidative activity in HaCaT human keratinocytes. These results suggest that AR might act as an effective inhibitor of UVB-modulated signaling pathways and might serve as a photo-protective agent.
