  • A two channel seismic recorder suitable for long-term observation of microearthquakes is developed. The direct analogue recording on cassette tape is adopted in the recorder whose circuits of amplifier and mortor units of an audio cassette recorder are modified. The recorder provides contineous record of 10 days with DC 12V battery (100AH) and with standard cassette tape of 60 minute use. The binary coded time signals of date, hour, and minute are generated once a minute by the timing system and absolute time input using radio to measure the time drift is also possible. For the seismic signal processing, the analogue signals from audio cassette player pass A/D converter and digitized data are stored in personal computer. Then visual records can be obtained using computer graphic mode. Basic programs "ADCONVO" and "DRAWO" to accomplish A/D conversions, the creation of data files and visualization of signals were written. Some sample signals reproduced from the recorded tape are presented.

  • In this paper, we propose an architecture of multimedia communication terminal that can e used in broadband ISDN environments. To design and implement the multimedia communication terminal, we analyzed the structure of multimedia terminals and the types of services which is recommended by public and private standard or ganization, such as ITU-T, Digital Audio-Visual Council(davic) and ATM Forum. The multifunctional communication terminal designed in this paper could allow inter-working between existing communication terminals on the heterogeneousnetwork and accept current and advanced multimedia communication application flexible. An implemented terminal is consisted of the multimedia processing board and the ATm interface board that is installed in PCI bus on personal computer. The integrated service multimedia communication terminal that is implemented supports retrieval, distributive and conversational communication service simultaneously. And then we performaned functional module test according to the individual communication services.

  • In the age of personal media such as YouTube and Twitch, individual media content creation and consumption have become simpler. A huge amount of media content is created and consumed through platform services. In this regard, interest in copyright of media contents is increasing. In particular, the sound source is an indispensable element in almost all media contents production. In this paper, we propose a method to store the sound source and its signature using blockchain and distributed storage system to verify the copyright of music contents. We Identify the possibility of including the audio signature extraction result of the sound source as blockchain transaction data. Through experiments, we compare the input and output speed when the sound source and its signature are stored in the distributed storage system.

  • As the number of videos uploaded on live streaming platforms rapidly increases, the demand for providing highlight videos is increasing to promote viewer experiences. In this paper, we present novel methods for predicting highlights using chat logs and audio data in videos. The proposed models employ bi-directional LSTMs to understand the contextual flow of a video. We also propose to use the features over various time-intervals to understand the mid-to-long term flows. The proposed Our methods are demonstrated on e-Sports and baseball videos collected from personal broadcasting platforms such as Twitch and Kakao TV. The results show that the information from multiple time-intervals is useful in predicting video highlights.

  • In this study, a dynamic camera actuation system for simultaneous in situ image acquisition is developed to achieve real-time observation of transient liquid flow on a lab-on-a-disk. A disk-type electric circuit, namely circuit-on-a-disk, co-rotated with the lab-on-a-disk improves the dynamic image acquisition ability in terms of a frame rate. The circuit-on-a-disk is comprised of a camera connected with a motor, a microprocessor and a wireless communication module. The camera connected with the motor enables to realize dynamic tracking of a transient flow and real-time image acquisition. The obtained images can be simultaneously transferred by a video/audio transmitter unit to a personal computer. Also, the microprocessor receives signals from the personal computer, and then controls the focusing position of the camera. We are expecting that heaters, sensors, and light sources also can be integrated on the circuit-on-a-disk, and they will enable various functional actuations as well as precise image acquisition.

  • This study was mainly aimed to investigate on the perceptions of occupational suitability for speakers who stutter and the associated factors. 90 college students who do not stutter participated in this study and asked to hear one of three audio recordings(i.e., fluent version, mildly-stuttered version, and severely-stuttered version) of a male speaker who stuttered. Then, the participants were asked to rate the speaker's communicative functioning, personal attributes, and suitability for 31 occupations, along with perceptions of the occupations' speaking demands and educational requirements. Results show that speakers who stuttered (i.e., mildly-stuttered and severely-stuttered version) received lower suitability ratings for high speaking demand occupations than for low speaking demand occupations. In addition, it has been shown that perceived speaking demand strongly affected occupational suitability ratings at both levels of stuttering severity. However, it has been shown that occupational suitability ratings were not associated with ratings of the speaker's personal attributes and perceived educational requirements. From these findings it can be argued that adults who stutter may face occupational stereotyping and/or role entrapment in work settings.

  • To identify "Gongsik", defined as food-sharing by picking food from a common plate using personal utensils, we conducted 7 focus group interviews including 47 university students during a 6 month period. Focus group discussions were audio taped, transcribed, and categorized into major themes. We divided Gongsik into the following categories: practical reasons, socio-psychological reasons, boundaries, suppressive situations, emotional characteristics, attitudes towards using different utensils, and future prospects. Gongsik appeared to be useful for fostering quick food sharing, intimacy and solidarity, and a fixed behavior learned at home. If the amount of food was too small to provide individual servings, as in Jjigae, Gongsik was likely to occur spontaneously. Family, close relatives, friends, and lovers sharing common activities and/ or blood ties were composed the boundaries of Gongsik. However, Gongsik was avoided in elegant restaurants or in view of foreigners. Participants showed mixed feelings towards Gongsik. Gongsik conducted with a spoon was considered to increase the degree of suggested intimacy in a food sharing context. Half of the students believed that the practice of Gongsik would be maintained into the future. Gongsik is a culturally-specific behavior that includes both positive and negative meanings. Aside from improving understanding of the cultural aspects of food-sharing, we suggest that the negative aspects of Gongsik related to the issue of hygiene be considered in food and nutrition education.

  • In this paper, the speaker-recognition process based on both DTW and discrete HMM was performed using the method to evaluate state-dependent parameter weighting from training data so as the personal audio-characteristics are to be well reflected. In the suggested method below, we found the optimal state sequence using the Viterbi algorithm. The optimal path could be evaluated after comparing the sequence of base pattern which already have, with that of the other patterns. After that the frame of which the pattern was matched with the base pattern in the same state are to be found so that the reference pattern can be gained by weighting on the numbers of matched frames.

  • In this paper, we describe the implementation of Bluetooth headset. Bluetooth headset sets up link using ACL connection between headset and audio gateway, transfers 64kbps voice using SCO connection. Bluetooth headset implemented in this paper is designed with no HCI, so all protocol stack is implemented in Bluetooth module. We verify the upper layer protocol and application program using C-language modeling on Unix environment.

  • The purpose of this study is to explore the relationship between selected components of conceptual ecology that are reflected in high school science students' statements, when answering questions. This study follows from a position that there is reason to believe that, in the process of answering questions, many aspects of conceptual ecology are likely to play a role. Data were gathered through six audio-taped interviews, the science teacher's profiles of each student, the students' personal journals, their assignments, and their examinations and participation in class. Kay and KY were selected as the focus of this study because theirs were both dramatic as well as representative cases. As the findings suggest, learning styles differ according to distinctions within individuals' conceptual ecologies. Thus the way in which a person learns science varies according to the construction of her/his conceptual ecology. This suggests that different forms of pedagogy may be effective with different types of learners. This also suggests that science educators may have a role in assisting students to develop into constructed, rather than received, learners.
