  • The purpose of this study is to clarify success factors for desirable relationship between buyer and supplier in elementary school. Therefore, the survey questionnaire consisted of general background, past success, success difference, buyer-supplier relationship characteristics(trust, supporting status, communication behavior, conflict resolution techniques, supplier selection process). The subjects were 66 dieticians of elementary school in Inchon. The statistical analysis of data was completed using SPSS program. The results were summarized as follows : Average total cost/day per one person ₩1,156. The number of suppliers per one school were 6. 92.3% of the subjects were in favor of private contract, regarding contract methods of purchasing food materials. For the past success, degree of satisfaction about past their supplier showed 3.49 score. The present success difference was shown higher than the past success. There was significant correlation between the past success and the present success difference. Trust about suppliers showed 3.40score. Supplying companies hardly support for buying school. Among information quality(timely, accurate, adequate, complete, credible), timely and complete showed lower score than the other kind of elements. Among the buyer-supplier relationship characteristic elements, only trust correlated with satisfaction about suppliers significantly. Among the conflict resolution techniques, joint problem solving and persuasive attempts were often made use of by subjects. The supplier selection criteria were shown quality(7.47), supplier's capabilities(6.46), management plan(6.00), price(5.73), scale(5.48), assets(5.27), considers delivery(4.76) and technology(2.39). As results, trust was needed for the desirable relationship between buyers and suppliers. This study has some limitations. The data in this study were collected from only buyer. It is more desired to acquire data from suppliers also.

  • Objectives: This study has longitudinally analyzed male smokers in order to find out the trend rate of re-smoking after smoking cessation. Methods: The study was conducted with 800 male smokers who were provided with smoking cessation services for 3 years at public health centers from July 16, 2005 to July 15, 2008. Results: The results can be summarized as follows: First, the success rate of smoking cessation for at least 6 months during 3-year period was 54.4%. The failure rate of smoking cessation at the second year was 47.5% and the third 27.2%, which indicates that the failure rate diminishes as the period of smoking cessation extends. Second, the success rate of smoking cessation at the first trial was 35.0%, the second 24.3%, and the third 16.4%. The success rate diminished as the number of trial increased. Third, the continuation rate of smoking cessation for a year was 18.3%, for 2 years 13.4%. For the success group, the continuation rate of smoking cessation for a year was 52.5%, for 2 years 38.2%. For the failure group, the rate for a year was 21.5%. Fourth, in this longitudinal analysis, the most crucial variables that affect the success rate of smoking cessation are total number of consultation and the past experience of successful smoking cessation. Conclusion: This study shows that success of smoking cessation and the continuance of smoking cessation are both difficult, and that the past experience of smoking cessation plays an important role determining the present success of smoking cessation and continuance of smoking cessation. Thus, it is necessary to divide people into success group and failure group based on the results of the past experience of smoking cessation when they consult at smoking cessation clinics at public health centers. Further, in order to increase the continuation rate of smoking cessation, this study suggests that we need to consider ways to take care of those who successfully abstained from smoking for 6 months.

  • With various success stories of crowdfunding, government's establishment of crowdfunding act, and expected rapid growth of crowdfunding market, the potential ripple effect of crowdfunding on our society is anticipated to be enormous. This study investigates the influential factors and their impacts on the likelihood of project success in donation-based crowdfunding through the DonorsChoose case. The authors analyze the characteristics of project creator, characteristics of project, and behaviors of project participants in relation to the success or failure of the corresponding project. Consequently, the authors found that participants of donation-based crowdfunding exhibit altruistic behaviors and obtained the following specific results: First, donation participation and social capital of the project creator, and marginal help utility of receivers positively affect the success of project. Second, experience of past project creation of the project creator negatively affects the success of project. Third, past donations of the project creator to others' projects, when not appropriately signaled like on the DonorsChoose platform, may not exert a positive influence on the success of project and the reciprocity principle may not work.

  • The capability of design and engineering of global EPC companies has long been equalized through past similar construction experiences. Among various key factors in the success of EPC project, the capability of engineering is considered to be the most important factor since the engineering is preceding activities of EPC contract. The failure of engineering may adversely affect the subsequent procurement & construction activities and in turn may cause cost overrun or schedule delay. Therefore, an EPC company needs to continue to improve the engineering capabilities for the success of project. The engineering capabilities can be further improved if the EPC company should prevent recurrence of similar design faults that were previously committed. This study is intended to present how to make the most of the failure examples from previous projects towards a success of project. Failure is but a stepping stone to success. The EPC company can obtain useful lessons from the analysis of past failure examples.

  • Crowd-funding platforms, which enable to collect funds from individuals, have recently gained growing interests around the world. This study intends to provide future research directions for the crowd-funding by reviewing past research works. For this purpose, two research themes are selected - (1) motivations to participate in crowd-funding and (2) critical success factors for the project funding. The motivations are analyzed from both perspectives of fund demanders and suppliers. The critical success factors are investigated by using four dimensions: fund demanders, fund suppliers, relationships between demanders and suppliers, and project characteristics. Using the implications found from the past research, this paper offers future research issues necessary for the growth of crowd-funding platforms.

  • Recently, information technology and information system(IS) are rapidly diffused throughout the world. In the global competitive environment, the success of IS becomes the important one among the critical success factors(CSF) of the firm. For achieving it, the firm must continually involve itself in the quality evaluation and improvement of IS. The quality concept was changed into the customer-oriented quality one. There is no exception to the quality of IS. In the past, IS quality was determined by the IS developer or IS department offering service. Now it is evaluated by the user of IS service, and then the customer-oriented user satisfaction becomes an important issue. The purpose of this study is to develope the total quality evaluation model of IS through TQM approach. First, all success factors of the domestic IS are extracted from the foreign and domestic literatures of IS success factors contained the technical and behavioral aspects. And the extracted factors are classified with evaluation levels for quality evaluation and developed into a total quality evaluation model. Finally the model usefulness is analyzed.

  • Over the past few years, there has been a growing interest in using information technology for competitive advantage. A sustainable advantage is the key to the survival and growth of a firm. The successful implementation of information technology is dependent on efficient information systems planning. But the correct and complete information, requirements for effective information systems planning are frequently very difficult to obtain. In this paper the Critical Success Factors(CSF) method was employed as a means of managerial information requirements analysis for information systems planning in Korea's steel industry. CSFs are one of the few areas of activity that must go well to ensure the success of an organization. This paper addresses the concept and hierarchy of CSF analysis as a methodology in identifying corporate information needs and concludes with the use and benefit of results of CSF analysis.

  • An IT system within a company play increasingly important role as a significant part of corporate assets. The IT system possesses an extraordinary ability to improve an organization's efficiency, effectiveness and productivity by providing competitive advantages and improving strategic business decision capabilities. Indeed, providing a more secure IT environment, improving employee productivity and enhancing business process and strategic decision capabilities are key areas to improve corporate performance. However, existing research on IT ROI of return on IT investments does not provide solid justification to stakeholders. In this paper, we analyze the IT investment during the past 28 years from 1982 to 2009 and present the results in two dimensions. First, we show the IT solution implementation analysis by years and industries based on 1,240 IT success cases from 8 different sources such as major Korea IT newspaper, IT magazines, and IT vendors. Then, the paper presents the relationship between IT capability through IT success cases and corporate business performance among 32 industries.

  • Traditionally, self-efficacy, burnout and engagement are defined as work related states of mind, and formally speaking, students are not employees. But, we assume that from a psychological perspective, student core activities can be considered work. Therefore, based on SCT(social cognitive theory), we examine the mediating role of self-efficacy in the prediction of student burnout and engagement, and also the mediation of burnout and engagement between self-efficacy and performance(GPA). There is no research to date wether there would be mediating role of these variables between past success and performance. These effects were analysed in the context of mediating role of the variables in a university in a sample of 438 students. This study utilized a convenience sample drawn from various major scholar area. Results of structural equation modeling analyses were consist with a full mediation model in which academic past success predicts self-efficacy, which in turn, predicts student burnout and engagement. Also our proposed model showed that burnout and engagement are partial or full mediating variables between self-efficacy and performance. Our study's findings provide evidence that engagement fully accounted for the relationship between self-efficacy and performance, and burnout partially explained the relationships. These findings aligns with the general theorizing supported by JD-R model and SCT(social cognitive theory). More specifically, it builds on the JD-R literature as it tests one of the proposed mechanisms in the relationship between job resources and work engagement. Implications of study are discussed, together with limitations and suggestions for future research.

  • As the business environment is rapidly changing with globalization and complexity of information flows, the uncertainty is also very increased for project environment. Although many studies have been conducted to find out the critical factors for project success, there still exist different views to define project success. Furthermore, implementing success formula for one project does not necessarily guarantee a success for another project since there are other elements that impede the success of project. In this regards, it is imperative to examine what are the barriers to project success. This study aims to examine the barriers that impede the success of project. Past literature was thoroughly reviewed to collect and develop a preliminary list of elements that affected project performance negatively. Experts were interviewed to refine the list and the final list of the measurement items were developed. A survey questionnaire was developed with the final list of measurement items, and a survey was conducted on the practitioners with project experience. After the survey, an exploratory factor analysis was conducted on the final list to extract the component dimensions which in turn formed the group of project barriers. The exploratory factor analysis provided ten factors, which are difficulty of process management, failure of project feasibility analysis, cost overruns and lack of cost benefits, unclarity project plan, strategic consistency error, stakeholder conflict, inaccuracy of requirement definition, disturbance of communication, technical environment change, negative attitude of top management.
