Proton Induced X-ray Emission (PIXE) is a MeV ion beam analysis method for use with particle accelerators. PIXE uses low-energy charged particles as an excitation mechanism to generate characteristic x-ray emission from each element in a target. In PIXE analysis, the beam current used is from a few nA to several tens of nA. Chosun University (Cyclotron Research Center) designed a $50{\mu}A$ beam line from the 13 MeV cyclotron for use with a PIXE analysis system, as well as performing beam transport line optimization research. In this study, the beam line operation conditions for the optimization process of beam transport and beam characteristics are shown.

The Rare Isotope Science Project was launched in 2011 in Korea toward constructing the Rare isotope Accelerator complex for ON line experiments (RAON). RAON will house several experimental systems, including the Muon Spin Rotation/Relaxation/Resonance (μSR) facility in High Energy Experimental Building B. This facility will use 600-MeV protons with a maximum current of 660 pμA and beam power of 400 kW. The key μSR features will facilitate projects related to condensed-matter and nuclear physics. Typical experiments require a few million surface muons fully spin-polarized opposite to their momentum for application to small samples. Here, we describe the design of a muon transport beam line for delivering the requisite muon numbers and the electromagnetic-component specifications in the μSR facility. We determine the beam-line configuration via beam-optics calculations and the transmission efficiency via single-particle tracking simulations. The electromagnet properties, including fringe field effects, are applied for each component in the calculations. The designed surface-muon beamline is 17.3 m long, consisting of 2 solenoids, 2 dipoles affording 70° deflection, 9 quadrupoles, and a Wien filter to eliminate contaminant positrons. The average incident-muon flux and spin rotation angle are estimated as 5.2 × 106 μ+/s and 45°, respectively.

This paper proposes an observation model for a particle filter-based localization using a sonar grid map. The proposed model estimates a predicted observation by considering the properties of a sonar sensor which has a large angular uncertainty. The proposed model searches a grid which has the highest probability to reflect a sonar beam using the following procedures; (1) the reliable area of a single sonar data is determined using the footprint association model; (2) the detection probability of each grid cell in a sonar beam coverage in estimated. The proposed model was applied to the particle filter based localization, and was verified by experiments in indoor environments.

When a neutral particle beam(NPB) aimed at the object and receive a small number of neutron signals at the detector without any errors, it obeys Poisson law. Under the two assumptions that neutral particle scattering distribution and aiming errors have a circular Gaussian distributions that neutral particle scattering distribution and aiming errors have a circular Gaussian distribution respectively, an exact probability distribution of neutral particles vecomes a Poisson-power function distribution. We study and prove some properties, such as limiting distribution, unimodality, stochastical ordering, computational recursion fornula, of this distribution. We also prove monotone likelihood ratio(MLR) property of this distribution. Its MLR property can be used to find a criteria for the hypothesis testing problem.

A multilayer gaseous detector has been developed for fast dose-verification measurements of raster-scan-mode therapeutic beams in particle therapy. The detector, which was constructed with eight thin parallel-plate ionization chambers (PPICs) and polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) absorber plates, is closely tissue-equivalent in a beam's eye view. The gas-electron signals, collected on the strips and pad arrays of each PPIC, were amplified and processed with a continuous charge.integration mode. The detector was tested with 190-MeV raster-scan-mode beams that were provided by the Proton Therapy Facility at Samsung Medical Center, Seoul, South Korea. The detector responses of the PPICs for a 190-MeV raster-scan-mode proton beam agreed well with the dose data, measured using a 2D ionization chamber array (Octavius model, PTW). Furthermore, in this study it was confirmed that the detector simultaneously tracked the doses induced at the PPICs by the fast-oscillating beam, with a scanning speed of 2 m s-1. Thus, it is anticipated that the present detector, composed of thin PPICs and operating in charge.integration mode, will allow medical scientists to perform reliable fast dose-verification measurements for typical dynamic mode therapeutic beams.

A study on the number density in a dual beam LDV is carried out with moving particles of various irregular arrangements. Ratious of the particle diameter to the particle to the fringe Spacing are D/.delta. = 0.3, 0.5, 1.0 and 1.5. In the case of the small number of moving particles(N<10), the visibility is influenced much by the difference of the phase of particles for one side fringe and the change in visibility is shown remarkable. In the case of the larger number of particles, the decreasing rate for visibility on the graph is smooth because the effect of the phase difference of particles is decreased by more unitorm distribution of particles over fringes. And the formula of the number density on the basis of probability is fairly compared with experimental values.
When manufacturing beam by laminating particleboards, the mechanical properties of particleboad-laminated beam would be also improved if the properties, especially mechanical properties of particleboad be reinforced. In this study, steel wires were used to reinforce particleboard. This study was carried out to obtain the basic mechanical properties of the board composed of wood particle and steel wires, focusing on bending strength which is the important factors in laminated beam and it was tried to estimate the relationship between the properties of the particleboard-laminated beam. and the proportion of steel wires to wood particles in particleboards. The result obtained can be summarized as follows: 1. The more steel wires used in boards, the higher value of modulus of rupture in bending was obtained, For example. the density 5 board composed of 14 numbers of steel wires showing 55% improved value than control board. 2. The board with lower density was also made better in higher value of elasticity, the density 0.5 board with 14 numbers of steel wires improved by 170%, the density 0.6 board by 86%, the 0.7 board by 37% and the 0.8 board by 26%. 3. The work to maximum load was improved with more steel wires. for example, the density 0.8 board with 14 numbers of steel wires improved by 31%.

With an attempt to enhance the visibility of laser beam, we have investigated a black matrix with scattering particles by ray tracing simulations. As the scattering particle density is increased, the detected power by the receiver is increased, thereby enhancing the visibility. In reality, the visibility is reduced with increasing incident angle (away from the normal incidence) of laser beam, a phenomenon also observed by ray tracing simulations. It is due to the fact that the mean path is increased within a highly absorptive BM layer or a smaller number of rays hit the BM area when the incident angle is high. Embedding a number of scattering particles into BM may bring in crosstalk among pixels. However, it is negligible because scattered rays inside highly absorptive BM are re-scattered due to the high scattering particle density, decreasing the power of scattered rays into the active areas.

MgO enhanced $(Ba_{0.6}Sr_{0.4})$$TiO_3$ thick films have been fabricated by a tape casting and firing method for tunable devices on the microwave frequency band. In order to improve ferroelectric properties, the composite thick films enhanced with MgO on BST have been asymmetrically annealed by a focused halogen beam method. Dielectric constants of composite thick films are changed from 1050 to 1300 at 100 kHz after 60 s and 150 s annealing by the focused halogen beam. Even though no prominent changes were previously observed from the thick films before and after annealing in terms of chemical composition and surface morphology, it is clear that the average particle size of the thick films calculated by Scherrer's formula were increased by annealing. Furthermore, a strong correlation between particle size and dielectric constant of the composite thick films has been observed; dielectric constant increases with increased particle size. This has been attributed to the increased volume of ferroelectric domain due to increased particle sizes. As a result, the tuning range was improved by halogen beam annealing.
Particle characteristics diagnosis system (PCDS) was developed to measure submicron particle characteristics by modulation of particle beam mass spectrometry (PBMS) with scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy (EDS). It is possible to measure the particle size distribution in real-time, and the shape, composition can be measured in sequence keeping vacuum condition. Apparatus was calibrated by measuring the size classified NaCl particle which generated at atmospheric pressure. After the calibration, particles were sampled from the exhaust line of plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) process and measured. Result confirms that PCDS is capable for analyzing particles in vacuum condition.
