  • To control the LED lighting for broadcasting, LED current control using tri-stimulus values is used for RGB LEDs. For the convenience of control, this control is approximated as a linear function or used as an appropriate value through trial and error. Also, it is not suitable for broadcast lighting because it does not use a diffuser plate applied for mixing sufficient light and color required for actual it. In this study, a neural network with excellent nonlinear function approximation is used as a control method for LED panels for broadcast lighting. We intend to implement an LED panels controller suitable for the desired chromaticity coordinates and dimming values of intensity. As a result of the performance evaluation, the errors of the xy chromaticity coordinates are mostly ±0.02 and the acceptable range of ANSI C78.377A was satisfied. The average errors of the xy chromaticity coordinate are xerror=0.0044 and yerror=0.0030, respectively, and we confirmed the superiority and stable performance of the proposed algorithm.

  • The purpose of this paper is to present the direction of emotional lighting design of a new concept suitable for the user's living environment based on the experiment and the result of the recognition of the cognitive effect of the color of the lighting on the user's sensibility. As a research method, we collected meaningful results of color temperature and emotion of light through literature research and experimented with users in their twenties. Based on this, we presented the design direction of emotional lighting. As a result, we designed emotional lighting that can transform the shape of the four joints freely to realize the user's demand. We also derive the color temperature of light that can be optimized for the user's work and environment, Concentration, mood, and relaxation. The result of this paper is meaningful and worthy of suggesting emotional lighting design with user - oriented new perspective, deviating from previous method of planning lighting.

  • Lighting work on 3D animation requires much time and labor. For example, about 60 lighting artists were needed for the theater animation named Postman Pat the Movie globally distributed in 2014. These artists were needed to rapidly respond with shot feedback. However, complicated shots required much of rendering time. Therefore, it was difficult to correspond the work in the middle of test rendering. After 2005, re-lighting techniques were developed to cope with such situations. However, it was not feasible to create shadow with current re-lighting technique which doesn't make natural or realistic result. This paper has realized relighting system that could realistic quality while maintaining fast calculation by applying rasterized ambient occlusion to the relighting calculation of each of the lights. This relighting system has been used for the Hollywood animation titled "Postman Pat: The Movie" globally released in 2014. It is anticipated for this method to be more widely used for animation manufacture that other manufacturers can reduce expenses and create well completed output in the future.

  • In comparison with some other light sources, LED has merits such as long lifetime, pollution free, and high energy efficiency. Lately, due to development of LED with high brightness and capacity, LED, which has been applied in display system only, has applied in the field of lighting system. As power LED for lighting system can be burned out by heat problem, the driving current of power LED has to be controlled below the designed value. In this paper, power LED photovoltaic lighting system, which has the current limitting function, has been described. After photovoltaic power is generated from PV panel. it is charged into a battery. And then, after the charged power is converted to DC24[V] through a boost DC-DC converter, it is supplied to power LED at night. It has been validated by designing and testing of 72[W] power LED lighting system, which includes a PV charger, a boost DC-DC converter and a current limiter for driving power LED.

  • In this paper, a freeform reflector is designed for low road lighting. In the case of low road lighting, which requires light distribution over a wide lane compared to the height, it is difficult to match uniformity, compared to existing road lighting. To satisfy road lighting grade M3, the reflector was divided into nine parts, and the inclination of the reflecting surface was changed to have the desired light distribution. The fitted curves were drawn based on each point, following the formula that was derived. Through the Street Light Simulation of LightTools, we confirmed that it meets the M3 road lighting standard; we then made it directly and satisfied the lighting grade on an actual road, proving the validity of the design result.

  • The Adaptive Front-lighting System (AFS) is a part of the active safety system, providing optimized vision to the driver during night time and other poor-sight conditions of the road by automatic adaptation of lighting to environmental and traffic conditions. Basically, an AFS provides four different modes of the passing beam as designated in an United Nations Economic Commission for Europe regulation (ECE324-R123): neutral state or country light (Class C), urban light (Class V), highway light (Class E), and adverse weather light (Class W). In this paper, we first present an optics design for an AFS system capable of producing the Class C/V/E/W patterns requiring only on/off modulation of multi-array LEDs with no need for any additional mechanical components. The AFS optics consists of two separated modules, cutoff and spread; the cutoff module lights a narrow central area with high luminous intensity, satisfying the cutoff regulation, and the spread module forms a wide spread beam of low luminous intensity. Each module consists of two major parts; the first converts a discretely positioned LED array into a full-filled area emitting light source plane, and the second projects the light source plane to a 25 m away target plane. With the combination of these two optics modules, the four beam patterns are formed by simple on/off modulation of multi-array LEDs. Then we report the development of a prototype that was demonstrated to provide the four beam patterns.

  • In lighting system where several large-area organic light-emitting diode (OLED) lighting panels are involved, panel aging may appear differently from each other, resulting in a falling-off in lighting quality. To achieve uniform light output across large-area OLED lighting panels, we have employed an optical feedback circuit. Light output from each OLED panel is monitored by the optical feedback circuit that consists of a photodiode, I-V converter, 10-bit analogdigital converter (ADC), and comparator. A photodiode generates current by detecting OLED light from one side of the glass substrate (i.e., edge emission). Namely, the target luminance from the emission area (bottom emission) of OLED panels is monitored by current generated from the photodiode mounted on a glass edge. To this end, we need to establish a mapping table between the ADC value and the luminance of bottom emission. The reference ADC value corresponds to the target luminance of OLED panels. If the ADC value is lower or higher than the reference one (i.e., when the luminance of OLED panel is lower or higher than its target luminance), a micro controller unit (MCU) adjusts the pulse width modulation (PWM) used for the control of the power supplied to OLED panels in such a way that the ADC value obtained from optical feedback is the same as the reference one. As such, the target luminance of each individual OLED panel is unchanged. With the optical feedback circuit included in the lighting system, we have observed only 2% difference in relative intensity of neighboring OLED panels.
