The purpose of this study is to evaluate the changes in perception concerning nutrition labeling and students' availability of processed foods and is to investigate parents' awareness of nutrition labeling through the 'Education program on safety management of children's dietary life' conducting directly to the fifth grade elementary school students (4,105 persons) by the nutrition teacher in each school. The part that checked when purchasing processed food before and after the students' education, the name of manufacturer (p<0.05), raw material and content (p<0.001), food additives (p<0.001), nutritive components (p<0.05) etc. were significantly improved. An idea about nutrition labeling has increased after the education, the question items in 'it is reliable' (p<0.001), 'satisfied' (p<0.01) were significantly increased particularly. In spite of one time education, it showed positive changes such as it can be possible to get desired nutrition information. Thus, although it was one time training conducted in the situation that can not be carried out formal education due to school environment, a variety of practical education of children's dietary life is required targeting comprehensive senior students, the education is considered to be conducted for children as well as parents.
The purpose of this study is to diagnose the current states and the problems of student assessment of Elementary School Mathematics. For that purpose, this study conducted a survey and had the individual interviews. The surrey items consisted of the six main parts: questions about the development of assessment tools, the method to assess, the grading, the special supplementary courses, the opening of learning effect, and the follow-up guidances. The results of this study are as the follow First, elementary teachers depended heavily on internet sites for developing assessment problems. Second, elementary teachers made use of a performance assessment, a unit assessment, and a term examination at ordinary times. Third, unit assessment was largely referred for grading by elementary teachers. Fourth, in selecting the students for the special supplementary courses, both criterion-referenced assessment and norm-referenced assessment were considered. After finishing the special supplementary courses, additional tests were usually taken. Fifth, elementary teachers took a negative attitude in opening of learning effect. specialty opening of test paper to parents of students was done under 30%. Sixth, fellow-up guidances were the most through the classroom guidances. but consulting with parents of students was not frequently conducted by teachers.
In Korea, the lower elementary grades are applying a topic-oriented integrated curriculum. It causes a lack of science content and inquiry experience for young children. The purpose of this study is to understand the scientific experiences and perceptions of the lower elementary graders and to inquire about the meaning of those experiences in their science learning. Four students (male 2, female 2), their parents, and their first-year homeroom teachers participated in the study. The data collection was mainly conducted through in-depth interview of them. Results showed that the 'experiments' were the student's the main perception of science, and the epistemic emotion that students mainly feel about science was 'curiousness'. Since most experiences were dependent on non-formal educational experience, the parents were an important factor to determine their experiences about science. Various factors, such as students' scientific experiences, their epistemic emotions, and the parents, interacted to form children's perception of science. The positive perception of science affected the level of motivation and expectation for science learning as the third grade. It is suggested that improvement of curriculum and textbooks should emphasize scientific exploration for the lower graders of elementary school, which provides them meaningful scientific experience in school.
This study was conducted to investigate the perception and understanding parents had regarding environment friendly agricultural products being used for school foodservice. A trained practitioner surveyed 221 parents of children at elementary schools in Daejeon using a questionnaire, after which the resulting data were analyzed by a Chi-square test. Overall, the parent's responses regarding the foodservice were positive. However, most of the parents do not participate (65%) in the school foodservice if they work, and those that do participate primarily work as meal service aides (58.1%). Parents indicated that the work of urgent field of inspection on food materials (69.9%), and the reason of an agreement (98.2%) for them were the students' health (68.4%). In addition, most parents were positive about the possibility of replacing foods used in the school with environment friendly products (51.6%) and felt that the government should pay the additional expense associated with their replacement. Furthermore, the majority of the parent's surveyed felt that children should be supplied with vegetables (54.9%) purchased directly from farms. The parents' satisfaction with the meal service (25.1%) was lower than that of the students (54.1%). The reason for the satisfaction reported by the parents was concern regarding the health of their children (53.3%). In addition, the majority of the parents (47.3%) responded that environment friendly agricultural products differ from general agricultural products because insecticides and fertilizer were not used. The main objection parents had to using environment friendly products was their cost (59.1%), and most parents felt that a realistic solution to this problem was unified purchase (41.4%). Besides, a problem when replacing with them was the expensive price (38.1%) and true or false (37.7%), and the students' satisfaction (59.5%) was selected the most in an effect of using them, diversity of the product (39.1%) and price reduction (32.6%) for a solution of the increase of using them.
Students' journals in science class are supposed to contribute to students' science teaming and to provide plentiful information on students' learning and progress. If interaction could be reinforced in the process of writing journals, the positive effects of the journals are expected to be increased. New approaches in teaching should be supported by school and community. Otherwise, teachers are frequently frustrated and failed to introduce new ways of instruction into science classes. The purposes of the study are to develop interactive journals, and approaches to introduce interactive journals at school level. The status and situation of the school were investigated by survey. Interactive journals were developed by teachers who experienced workshops on developing journals. A model journal was provided as a guidance to teachers. To establish environments for introducing journals in the school, an invited lecture was provided to increase parents' perceptions on journals. A communication system among students, parents, and teachers was established, and educational materials, such as encyclopedia, books, computers, and so on were prepared. For efficient administration of journals, various prizes and events were established. As a result of the study, teachers participated experienced professional development in terms of journals, interactive journals for science class were developed, the environments for the introduction of interactive journals at school level were established, and most students successfully completed science journals.
