  • In this paper, we propose the novel video retrieval algorithm using non-parametric based motion classification in the shot-based video indexing structure. The proposed system firstly gets the key frame and motion information from each shot segmented by scene change detection method, and then extracts visual features and non-parametric based motion information from them. Finally, we construct real-time retrieval system supporting similarity comparison of these spatio-temporal features. After the normalized motion vector fields is created from MPEG compressed stream, the extraction of non-parametric based motion feature is effectively achieved by discretizing each normalized motion vectors into various angle bins, and considering a mean, a variance, and a direction of these bins. We use the edge-based spatial descriptor to extract the visual feature in key frames. Experimental evidence shows that our algorithm outperforms other video retrieval methods for image indexing and retrieval. To index the feature vectors, we use R*-tree structures.

  • The ac side current of an high voltage direct current (HVDC) converter is characterized by highly non-sinusoidal waveform. If the harmonic current is allowed to flow in the connected ac system, it may cause unacceptable levels of distortion. Therefore, ac side filters are required as part of the total HVDC converter station, in order to reduce the harmonic distortion of the ac side current and voltage to acceptably low levels. The ac side filters are also employed to compensate network requested reactive power because HVDC converters also consume substantial reactive power. Among different types of filters, double-tuned filters have been widely utilized for HVDC system. This paper presents two design methods of double-tuned filter; equivalent method and parametric method. Using a parametric method, in particular the paper proposes a new design algorithm for a realistic system. Finally, the performance of the design algorithm is evaluated for a 80kV HVDC system in Jeju island with PSCAD/EMTDC program. The results cleary demonstrate the effectiveness of proposed design method in harmonics elimination and steady-state stability.

  • Estimating the mutual time delay between two acoustic sensors is used in various fields such as tracking and estimating the location of a target in room acoustics and sonar. In the time delay estimation methods, there are a non-parametric method, such as Generalized Cross Correlation (GCC), and a parametric method based on system identification. In this paper, we propose a time delay estimation method based on the parametric method. In particular, we propose a method that considers the noise in each receiving acoustic sensor. Simulation confirms that the proposed algorithm is superior to the existing generalized cross-correlation and adaptive eigenvalue analysis methods in white noise and reverberation environments.

  • This paper compared the performance of the parametric method and the nonparametric method when estimating the distribution for the tail of the distribution with heavy tails. For the parametric method, the generalized extreme value distribution and the generalized Pareto distribution were used, and for the nonparametric method, the kernel density estimation method was applied. For comparison of the two approaches, the results of function estimation by applying the block maximum value model and the threshold excess model using daily fine dust public data for each observatory in Seoul from 2014 to 2018 are shown together. In addition, the area where high concentrations of fine dust will occur was predicted through the return level.

  • For all pairwise comparisons of treatments, Bayesian simultaneous confidence intervals are proposed and studied. First Bayesian solutions are obtained for a fixed prior, and then prior parameters are estimated by a parametric empirical Bayesian method. The nominal confidence level is shown to be controlled asymptotically. An extension to the unbalanced design is also considered.

  • We propose a result on the stabilization of nonlinear time-delay systems via the feedback linearization method. Using the predictor based control and the parametric coordinate transformation, we introduce a stabilizing controller to compensate time delay. Specifically, we present the delay-dependent stability analysis to makes the considered system stable. Also, an illustrative example is provided

  • A parametric scheme is proposed for the numerical solution of the nonlinear Boussinesq equation. The numerical method is developed by approximating the time and the space partical derivatives by finite-difference re placements and the nonlinear term by an appropriate linearized scheme. The resulting finite-difference method is analyzed for local truncation error and stability. The results of a number of numerical experiments are given for both the single and the double-soliton wave. AMS Mathematics Subject Classification : 65J15, 47H17, 49D15.

  • We considered a change-point hazard rate model generalizing constant hazard rate model. This type of model is very popular in the sense that the Weibull and exponential distributions formulating survival time data are the special cases of it. Maximum likelihood estimation and the asymptotic properties such as the consistency and its limiting distribution of the change-point estimator were discussed. A parametric bootstrap method for finding confidence intervals of the unknown change-point was also suggested and the proposed method is explained through a practical example.

  • We propose several estimators of the reliability function R of the two-parameter exponential distribution, and then compare those estimator in terms of the mean square error (MSE) through Monte Carlo method. We also consider the parametric bootstrap estimation. Using the parametric bootstrap estimator, we obtain the bootstrap confidence intervals for reliability function and compare the proposed bootstrap confidence intervals in terms of the length and the coverage probability through Monte Carlo method.

  • Parametric studies are executed by numerical method varying then number of strain gauges, rail section and distance of sleeper from which the followings are obtained. Wheel forces or lateral forces are measured by connecting eight strain gauges on rail to single Wheatstone bridge. The method eliminates the influence of interaction and measured stability. Strain gauges are fastened on the neutral axis of the rail so as not to be influenced by sleeper.
