In this work, an effective stiffness generated by internal loading for a planar 3 degrees of freedom RCC mechanism is investigated. For this purpose, the internal kinematic analysis and antagonistic stiffness modeling for this mechanism are performed. It is shown that the antagonistic stiffness could be effectively created at the center of the mechanism in its symmetric configuration.

Since surgery is usually a difficult task because of physiological tremor, eye strain, and tremor, contagious and radioactive hazard, it is necessary to develop micro-surgery telerobotic system using improved tools suitable for their specific tasks. Nowadays the growth of interest on microsurgery and medical applications of robotics has been so rapid. But the medical robots are only practical applications of the industrial robots. This paper identifies five general areas of advanced microsurgery based on the current technological background and expertise, and analyzes the motion, tool and accuracy with respect to microsurgery task, and proposed the criteria to evaluate micro-surgical manipulator. The analysis of microusrgery can be heplful to clarify some basic concept and design of micro-surgical manipulators. With these data we will alos propose an efficient in-parallel-platform manipulator having special kinematic structrue structure suitable for microsurgery.

The kinematics and control problem of a visual alignment system is investigated, which plays a crucial role in the fabrication process of flat panel displays. The first solution is the inverse kinematics of a 4PPR parallel alignment mechanism. It determines the driving distance of each joint to compensate the misalignment between mask and panel. Second, an efficient vision algorithm for fast alignment mark recognition is suggested, where by extracting essential feature points to represent the geometry of a mark, the geometric template matching enables much faster object recognition comparing with the general template matching. Finally, the overall visual alignment process including the kinematic solution, vision algorithm, and joint control is implemented and experimental results are given.

Most of Commercial Remote Center Compliance(RCC) devices have been designed using deforma ble structures. In this work, we propose another type of assembly devices which generate the compliance effec ts by attaching the compliances (or spring) at the prismatic joints of the griven mechainsm. First, the kinematic analysis for a parallel-type planar 3-degree-of-freedom mechanism is performed using modified transfer method of generalized coordinate. Then, compliance characteristics for the mechanism using prismatic joint compliances are investigated. In particular, when the system maintains its symmetric configuration, the mechanism is show n to have RCC points at the center of the workspace. Finally, sensitivity analysis around RCC points is perfor med.

Parallel robots used in industry require high stiffness or high speed because of their structural characteristics. Nowadays, the importance of rapid transportation has increased in the distribution industry. In this light, an industrial parallel robot has been developed for high-speed transfer. The developed parallel robot can handle a maximum payload of 3 kg. For a payload of 0.1 kg, the trajectory cycle time is 0.3 s (come and go), and the maximum velocity is 4.5 m/s (pick amp, place work, adept cycle). In this motion, its maximum acceleration is very high and reaches approximately 13g. In this paper, the design, analysis, and performance test results of the developed parallel robot system are introduced.

A computer program for automatic deriving the symbolic equations of motion for robots using the programming language MATHEMATICA has been developed. The program, developed based on the Lagrange formalism, is applicable to the closed chain robots as well as the open chain robots. The closed chains are virtually cut open, and the kinematics and dynamics of the virtual open chain robot are analyzed. The constraints are applied to the virtually cut joints. As a result, the spatial closed chain robot can be considered as a tree structured open chain robot with kinematic constraints. The topology of tree structured open chain robot is described by a FATHER array. The FATHER array of a link indicates the link that is connected in the direction of base link. The constraints are represented by Lagrange multipliers. The parallel robot, DELTA, having three-dimensional closed chains is modeled and simulated to illustrate the approach.

A master-slave system for teleoperation is usually used to control the robor's motion on remote place such as abyss, outer space etc.. When the slave robot is a humanoid one, it can make a better performance if the configuration of the master arm is similar to that of the slave arm and of the human. The master arm proposed in this paper has a type to be put on the human arm, that is, the exoskeleton type, and has a combination of serial joint and parallel mechanism imitating the human's arm structure of muscles and bones, so called hybrid mechanism so that it can follow arm's movement effectively. But it is easy to solve the forward kinematis of the parallel structure because relating equations are implicit functions. In order to solve that, the virtual joint angle corresponding to human arm's joint is introduced and a sequential computation step is employed in calculating virtual joint angles and the posture of the end effector. Also validity is checked up through computational simulation.

In this paper, a mask-panel alignment robot system is considered for IT industry applications. Two kinds of solutions are suggested which are required in constructing a control system for the alignment robot with actuation redundancy. First, the kinematic solution for the 4PPR parallel positioning mechanism is formulated for an arbitrary initial posture, which relates the mask-panel misalignment in the task space and the desired actuator displacements in the joint space. Secondly, in order to increase the stiffness of the control motion and also to avoid the mechanical lock which may happen due to the redundant actuation, a new synchronous control method is proposed which has the merit of coordinating joint control motions while not losing individual joint control performance. In addition, the engineering process to develop a visual alignment robot system is described with the results of experimental setup and GUI software. Finally, the experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed alignment system control methodology and how much beneficial it will be in real industrial applications.
