  • In land mobile communications, multipath fading is one of the key factors which affect the system performance. Some extensive studies have been carried out to improve the degraded performance under this fading channels. The PSAM channel compensation method using channel fading estimation is widely used and TCM is a combined coding and modulation technique that has been shown to provide significant coding gain without increasing the transmission bandwidth. In this paper, we analyze the performance of PSA-TC-8PSK which combines PSAM and TCM over frequency nonselective fading channels. To estimate channel fading, Wiener filter which minimizes error variance is used as compensation method and we analyze the affects on the system performance of the number of filter taps, period of the pilot symbol frame, and the Doppler frequency. In addition, we consider the symbol timing recovery circuit which can be implemented in the full-digital method and analyze the effects of symbol timing error on the system performance.

  • In land mobile communication, very extensive studies on pilot symbol assisted modulation (PSAM) have been made on fading compensation. This paper analyzes the effect of power amplifier nonlinearity on PSA-QAM with maximal ratio combining space diversity. In practical PSAM, information on fading is obtained through interpolation of the pilot symbols. We employed the interpolation filter which could minimize the average power of error and analyzed effects on the system performance of the number of filter taps, period of the pilot symbol frame, and the Doppler frequency. Nonlinear power amplifiers of class AB, B, and C were incorporated in the system models and their AM/AM and AM/PM characteristics were taken into account in the performance analysis. We showed the performance variations according to the types of the nonlinear power amplifiers in the AWGN and Rayleigh fading channels using nonlinear compensation technique, Cartesian Feedback Loop (CFB).

  • 이동통신에서, 신호의 페이딩을 보상하기 위하여 pilot symbol assisted modulation(PSAM)에 대한 많은 연구가 진행 되어왔다. 본 논문에서는 최대비합성다이버시티를 사용하는 PSA-QAM에서 전력증폭기 비선형성의 효과를 분석하였다. 먼저, PSAM성능의 한계를 구하기 위하여, 페이딩에 대한 완벽한 정보가 주어진 상태에서 최대비합성다이버시티를 갖는 QAM의 이론적 성능을 분석하였다. 실제 PSAM에서, 페이딩에 대한 정보는 파일럿 심볼의 보간에 의하여 얻어진다. 오차의 평균전력을 최소화하는 보간필터를 사용하여 필터의 탭수, 파일럿 심볼프레임 주기, 도플러 주파수가 성능에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 비선형 전력증폭기 AB, B, C급의 AM/AM, AM/PM 특성을 성능분석에 고려하였다. 비선형 보상기술인 Cartesian Feedback Loop (CFB) 이용하여 AWGN 채널과 Rayleigh 페이딩 채널에서 비선형 전력증폭기 종류에 따른 성능변화를 나타내었다.

A New Fading Estimation Method for PSAM in Digital Land Mobile Radio Channels (PSAM방식에 적용할 수 있는 새로운 페이딩 추정방식)

  • When we apply the spectrally efficient quadrature amplitude modulation(QAM) to mobile communications, it is necessary to estimate and compensate the channel charac- teristics. In this paper, a new type fading estimation method for PSAM using sinc function is presented. Gaussian interpolation method has a drawback that the performance degrades rapidly if pilot symbol period increases even though pilot sysbol period is less than Nyquist sampling rate. The Wiener filter method does not degrade until pilot symbol period is equal to the Nyquist sampling rate. It is difficult for Wiener filter method to be applied to real system because autocorrelation function of channel gain, Doppler frequency and SNR(signal to noise ratio) must be known to optimize the filter coefficients. But proposed method has a similar performance to the Wiener filter method, and does not need to know the autocorrelation function of channel gain, the doppler frequency and SNR. Therefore the proposed method cna be applied to real system easily.

  • In this paper, authors described on localization development's results about an electric igniter in thermal battery with a pyrotechnic heat sources. Especially, the development test and evaluation(DT&E) process and the methods in the developments of the electric igniter which is parts of a domestic thermal battery on K-PSAM was in charge of government and developed for defense of a local areas in Korea. We have proposed a process of design and manufacture on the electric igniter. Finally, we verified a quality and a reliability of the electric igniter from test results by Fisher-Snedecor's law and over 99.5 %(C.L. 95 %) for K-PSAM.

  • In this paper, we investigate a new approach pilot-symbol-aided channel estimation for orthogonal frequency division multi-plexing (OFDM) systems. Until now, lots of channel estimation methods are proposed. The pilot symbol assisted modulation (PSAM) has good performance. But, our proposed Algorithm has more good performance than the conventional PSAM system. Our algorithm is that channel estimation performance using the less inserted pilot-symbols systems is almost same to the two times inserted pilot-symbols system. The proposed method is highly robust to fast Rayleigh fading channel. Simulation results are presented to demonstrate the performance of our proposed algorithm.

  • Pilot symbol assisted modulation (PSAM) can be used for the channel estimation. However, imperfect channel estimates degrade the bit error rate (BER) performance. I derive the exact BER of 16-level quadrature amplitude modulated (16-QAM) orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems with PSAM in time dispersive Rayleigh fading channels. In real system, there is 2.5 dB penalty in $\overline{\gamma_b}$for the same BER relative to ideal system with perfect channel estimation.

  • 무선 통신 시스템에서 다중 경로 감쇠로 인한 심볼의 크기와 위상의 왜곡이 일어나는데 이를 추정하여 보상하기 위해 채널 추정 기법이 사용된다. OFDM 시스템에서의 채널 추정 기법에는 훈련 심볼이나 파일럿을 사용하여 채널을 추정하는 기법과 파일럿을 사용하지 않는 Blind 채널 추정 기법 등이 있다. 본 고에서는 I장 개요에 이어 II장에서는 훈련 심볼을 이용한 채널 추정 기법을 WPAN과 WLAN을 예로 들어 설명하고 LS,1-D LMMSE, Low rank LMMSE 알고리듬에 대해 설명한다. III장에서는 PSAM 채널추정에 대해 1차원 PSAM 기법과 2차원 파일럿 패턴과 Wiener filtering을 이용한 2-D LMMSE, Low rank LMMSE, Separable Wiener filter에 대하여 설명한다. IV장에서는 ESAE와 Blind 채널 추정 기법을 간략히 소개하고, V장에서 채널 추정의 최신 연구 동향을 소개한다.

Adaptive MPSAM technology for Compensation of Rayleigh Fading Channels (레일레이 페이딩 채널 보상을 위한 적응형 MPSAM 기술)

  • In this paper, the adaptive MPSAM is suggested in order to analyze and improve problems caused by the case of the impact of delay waves on Pilot Symbol Assisted Modulation (PSAM), a singular Pilot method. PSAM predicts and compensates amplitude and phases caused on fading channels, using the Pilot Symbol. In addition, the Basic method is not only analyzed but also grafted onto the suggested method properly; therefore, the performance could be improved. Comparing to the Basic method, the BER performance can be distinguished in case that the level of delay on delay waves with the suggested method goes below 0.7. On the other hand, the BER performance can be inferior due to a considerable effect of the adjacent symbol in the event that the level of delay on delay waves is worse. However, the BER performance is rather improved on the point where the level of delay on delay waves is serious because the Basic method uses reciprocal compensation. Hence, stable improvement can be expected in all areas which receive the influence of delay waves within one symbol once grafted onto the suggested method.
