Variation in Chromosome Number in Early Generation from Cross between Hexaploid Triticale(X Triticosecale Wittmack) and Wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) (6배체 트리티케일X밀 잡종 초기 세대의 염색체수 변이)

  • This experiment was carried out to obtain the information on the variation of chromosome number in pollen mother cell (PMC) and somatic cell of the progeny from the cross between hexaploid triticale cv. Sinkihomil and five hexaploid wheat varieties. The results were summarized as follows: Number of uni-, bi- and tri-valent in PMC was 11.9, 14.4 and 0.44, respectively, in the F$_1$ between triticale and wheat. Significant positive correlation between the pollen fertility and seed set rate, pollen fertility and bivalent number of PMC, and seed set rate and bivalent number of PMC, and negative correlation between pollen fertility and uni-or tri-valent of PMC in the cross between triticale and wheat were detected. F$_1$ (crossed seed) had 42 chromosomes, F$_2$ and F$_1$/P$_1$ showed high frequency of hyperploid (42-49) and F$_1$/P$_2$ showed high frequency of hypoploid (36- 42), which suggest non-random segregation for somatic chromosome number. in the cross between the triticale and wheat.

Fertilizer and Organic Inputs Effects on CO2 and CH4 Emission from a Soil under Changing Water Regimes (토양 수분 변동 조건에서 시비 및 유기물 투입에 따른 CO2와 CH4 방출 특성)

  • BACKGROUND: Agricultural inputs (fertilizer and organic inputs) and water conditions can influence $CH_4$ and $CO_2$ emission from agricultural soils. This study was conducted to investigate the effects of agricultural inputs (fertilizer and organic inputs) under changing water regime on $CH_4$ and $CO_2$ emission from a soil in a laboratory incubation experiment. METHODS AND RESULTS: Four treatments were laid out: control without input and three type of agricultural inputs ($(NH_4)_2SO_4$, AS; pig manure compost, PMC; hairy vetch, HV). Fertilizer and organic inputs were mixed with 25 g of soil at 2.75 mg N/25 g soil (equivalent to 110 kg N/ha) in a bottle with septum, and incubated for 60 days. During the first 30-days incubation, the soil was waterlogged (1 cm of water depth) by adding distilled water weekly, and on 30 days of incubation, excess water was discarded then incubated up to 60 days without addition of water. Based on the redox potential, water regime could be classified into wetting (1 to 30 days), transition (31 to 40 days), and drying periods (41 to 60 days). Across the entire period, $CH_4$ and $CO_2$ flux ranged from 0 to 13.8 mg $CH_4$/m/day and from 0.4~1.9 g $CO_2$/m/day, and both were relatively higher in the early wetting period and the boundary between transition and drying periods. During the entire period, % loss of C relative to the initial was highest in HV (16.4%) followed by AS (8.1%), PMC (7.5%), and control (5.4%), indicating readily decomposability of HV. Accordingly, both $CH_4$ and $CO_2$ fluxes were greatest in HV treatment. Meanwhile, the lower $CH_4$ flux in AS and PMC treatments than the control was ascribed to reduction in $CH_4$ generation due to the presence of oxidized compounds such as ${SO_4}^{2-}$, $Fe^{3+}$, $Mn^{4+}$, and ${NO_3}^-$ that compete with precursors of $CH_4$ for electrons. CONCLUSION: Green manure such as HV can replace synthetic fertilizer in terms of N input, however, it may increase $CH_4$ emission from soils. Therefore, co-application of green manure and livestock manure compost needs to be considered in order to achieve satisfactory N supply and to mitigate $CH_4$ and $CO_2$ emission.

Optimization Test of Plant-Mineral Composites to Control Nuisance Phytoplankton Aggregates in Eutrophic Reservoir (부영양 저수지의 조류제거를 위한 기능성 천연물질혼합제의 최적화 연구)

  • To optimize the natural chemical agents against nuisance phytoplankton, we examined algal removal activity (ABA) of Plant-Mineral Composite (PMC), which already developed by our teams (Kim et al., 2010), on various conditions. The PMC are consisted of extracted-mixtures with indigenous plants (Camellia sinensis, Quercusacutissima and Castanea crenata) and minerals (Loess, Quartz porphyry, and natural zeolite), and characterized by coagulation and floating of low-density suspended solids. A simple extraction process was adopted, such as drying and grinding of raw material, water-extraction by high temperature-sonication and filtering. All tests were performed in 3 L plastic chambers varying conditions; six different concentrations ($0{\sim}1.0\;mL\;L^{-1}$), six light intensities ($8{\sim}1,400\;{\mu}mol\;m^{-2}s^{-1}$), three temperatures ($10{\sim}30^{\circ}C$), four pHs (7~10), five water depths (10~50 cm), and three different waters dominated by cyanobacteria, diatom, and green algae, respectively. Results indicate that the highest ABA of PMC was seen at $0.05\;mL\;L^{-1}$ in treatment concentrations, where showed a reduction of more than 80% of control phytoplankton biomass, while $1,400\;{\mu}mol\;m^{-2}s^{-1}$ in light intensity (>90%), $20{\sim}30^{\circ}C$ temperature (>60%), 7~9 in pH (>90%), below 50 cm in water depth (>90%), and cyanobacterial dominating waters (>80%), respectively. Over the test, ABA of PMC were more obvious on the algal biomass (chlorophyll-${\alpha}$) than suspended solids, suggesting a selectivity of PMC to particle size or natures. These results suggest that PMC agents can play an important role as natural agents to remove the nuisant algal aggregates or seston of eutrophic lake, where occur cyanobacterial bloom in a shallow shore of lake during warm season.

  • In this study, we studied the nature of thin films formed by photodoping chalcogenide materials with for use in programmable metallization cell devices, a type of ReRAM. We investigated the resistance of Ag-doped chalcogenide thin films varied in the applied voltage bias direction from about $1\;M{\Omega}$ to several hundreds of $\Omega$. As a result of these resistance change effects, it was found that these effects agreed with PMC-RAM. The results imply that a Ag-rich phase separates owing to the reaction of Ag with free atoms from the chalcogenide materials.

  • In order to achieve computer-oriented control and automation of manufacturing processec, a distributed NC (DNC_) system was developed for FMS under the Windows environment. The DNC system consists of conventional DNC, PMC interface and tool management modules. Real-time system conditon monitoring and control fuctions required for machine tools and machining processes were accomplished by developing a PMC interface module called MMC board. Tool condition monitoring and management was performed by the developed tool management module composed of a tool setting probe and softwares. Performance of the DNC system was confirmed on the horizontal and the vertical type machining center equipped with FANUC OMC for the large amount of experiments.

  • In this study, we studied the nature of thin films formed by holographic photodoping chalcogenide thin films with for use in programmable metallization cell devices(PMC), a type of ReRAM. We formatted straight conduction pathway from the internal interferences of the diffraction gratings which is builded by the holographic lithography method. We investigated the resistance change of solid-electrolyte chalcogenide thin films varied in the applied voltage bias direction from about $1\;M{\Omega}$ to several hundreds of $\Omega$. The switching characteristics of the devices applied holographic lithography method was more improved than ultraviolet exposure condition. As a result of improved resistance change effects, we can analogize that the diffraction gratings is a kind of pattern for straight conduction pathway formation inside the chalcogenide thin films.

  • Thermo-mechanical behaviors of polymer matrix composite(PMC) with continuous TiNi fiber are studied using theoretical analysis with 1-D analytical model and numerical analysis with 2-D multi-fiber finite element(FE) model. It is found that both compressive stress in matrix and tensile stress in TiNi fiber are the source of strengthening mechanisms and thermo-mechanical coupling. Thermal expansion of continuous TiNi fiber reinforced PMC has been compared with various mechanical behaviors as a function of fiber volume fraction, degree of pre-strain and modulus ratio between TiNi fiber and polymer matrix. Based on the concept of so-called shape memory composite(SMC) with a permanent shape memory effect, the critical modulus ratio is determined to obtain a smart composite with no or minimum thermal deformation. The critical modulus ratio should be a major factor for design and manufacturing of SMC.

  • In this study, we measured and analyzed the interior noise, the rolling noise and the engine noise at Honam line(Seodaejeon- Jangseong) for passenger and power cars. The noise level is below 69㏈A for Seamaeul PMC(Powered Motor Car) coachs, below 65㏈A for Seamaeul and Mukungwha coachs, over 80㏈A for the driver's room of PMC and DEL (Diesel-Electric Locomotive). We also proposed the criteria of interior noise in free field conditions, below 67㏈A for passenger cars, below 86㏈A for power cars.
