In this research the behavior of a new type of a single pile under lateral loading and against slope sliding is studied. Especially, the section of a new pile is determined throughout experiments, and the single pile behavior under lateral loading and the effect of improvement in slope stability by using new type of pile (gear-shaped) were studied. As a result, it is known that maximum deflection of gear-shaped pile is far smaller than that of traditional PC circular pile for the same lateral loading. And lateral load of gear-shaped pile at allowable deflection was bigger than that of PC circular pile. From the comparison between two hypes of piles, it can be seen that the degree of improvement of safety factor in slope was higher in gear-shaped pile than that of PC pile under the same condition, and it results in the reduction of the number of stabilizing piles in a slope.
According to the revision of the Housing Act in 2013, it has been possible to carry out an apartment remodeling project involving two to three floor vertical extension. The remodeling project with vertical extension requires foundation reinforcement because structural safety due to additional load and enhanced seismic criteria must be met. In this case, structural analysis is performed to analyze the load distributed to existing PC pile and reinforced additional pile. The vertical stiffness ($K_v$) of the pile is required for structural analysis, but the research on the 20~30 year old PC pile stiffness is very limited. In this paper, the stiffness of the PC pile in accordance with the change of diameter and length was analyzed by examining the results of 38 field pile load tests performed during the construction of the apartments in the 1990's. As a result of the analysis, the pile stiffness decreases with the increase of the length-diameter ratio (L/D). In addition, the results of on-site pile load test are compared with the coefficient 'a' for estimating pile stiffness proposed in Korea Highway Bridge Design Standard (2008) and the Pile Foundation Design Guideline of Korea Railroad Corporation (2012). It shows that 'a' obtained through the estimation of the literature is very similar to the field test results in the range of 10
Three prestressed concrete(PC) piles were installed for research purpose at Seosan area of west sea of Korea, and also cone penetration tests (CPT) were performed near two pile locations in order to compute PC pile shaft resistance by using CPT data measured. Three common CPT prediction methods that ia, Schmertmann method, Tumay Sl Fakroo method and LCPC method in France were used to predict pile shaft resistance. The pile shaft resistance predicted by each method was compared with that obtained by full-scale loading test and pile driving analyzer to estimate reliability of each prediction method. The predicted resistances based on three CPT-based methods underestimated significantly the resistances obtained from by fullrcale loading test, performed at 25 days and 42 days text pile installtion. There were, however, good agreements of predicted shaft resistance of piles between three CPT-based methods and pile driving analyzer tested two weeks after pile installtion.

The jointing method of PC pile installation, which utilizes steel sleeve, is most popular for the deep bearing stratum( deeper than 15m ) or the irregular bearing stratum depths. However, this method has some difficulties in safety because there is no optimum standards of steel sleeve. This research attempts to determine the optimum standard of steel sleeve for 350mm PC pile, which is most widely used, through bending moment test designated by KS and numerical analysis using finite element method. According to the results, the optimum length of steel sleeve is three times longer than diameter of pile, and the thickness of steel sleeve is more than 2.5mm.

The main characteristics of PHC piles is that silica material and autoclave curing technique are used when manufacturing to have higher strength than PC piles. In this paper, pile drivability and bearing capacity characteristics of the PHC piles are studied through numerical analysis based on wave propagation theory, driving records and pile load tests in situ. It is found that we can have higher bearing capacity by using the PHC piles rather than the PC on condition that the most effective driving equipment is chosen when driving the pile. In other words, since the PHC piles have higher resistance to driving energy, the heavier ram can be used in the driving process, which results in the higher bearing capacity.

The High Strength Concrete REsearch Team of the Dong-Ah Construction R&D Institute has achieved the preactical use of the PHC pile manufacture technique at the Dong-Ah Chang-dong PC Plant. Components of the high strength concrete are used high strength cement, admixtures(water reducing high range admixture, micro silion fume, fly ash, gypsum). The design strength required 800kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$ was developed raging from 870kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$ to 1010kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$. The new manufacture procedure of HPC pile which include placing, molding, steam curing is able to apply a current PC pile manufacture procedure easily without using the high pressure steam curing.

This study analyzed the cases of cracks in piles due to the use of followers under construction conditions where water exists inside the piles, and confirmed whether the piles were cracked through a field test simulating the construction conditions in which water pressure inside the piles was generated by a hammer. According to the construction case, under the construction condition where the pile length is 20% to 30% shorter than the drilled length, about 80% cracks occur, so there is a high possibility of cracking due to water inside the pile. A field test was conducted to confirm the type of pile failure due to hammer under the construction condition in which water exists inside the pile. The pile head was not destroyed by the compressive load, and one or more longitudinal cracks occurred along the PC steel wire. The closed end pile generates water pressure by hammer. the follower and cushion(compression plywood) must be drilled at least 0.4D. It is expected that improved quality control will be possible as the water pressure inside the pile is reduced.

Piles of a bridge pier are connected with a column through a pile cap(footing). Behavior of the pile foundation can be different according to the connection method between piles and the pile cap. This difference causes a change of the design method. Connection methods between pile heads and the pile cap are divided into two groups ; rigid connections and hinge connections. KHBDC(Korea Highway Bridge Design Code) has specified to use rigid connection method for the highway bridge. In the rigid connection method, maximum bending moment of a pile occurs at the pile head and this helps the pile to prevent the excessive displacement. Rigid methods are also good to improve the seismic performance. However some specifications prescribe that conservative results through investigations for both the fixed-head condition and the free-head condition should be reflected in the design. This statement may induce an over-estimated design for the bridge which have very good quality structures with casing covered drilled shafts and the PC-house contained pile cap. Because the assumption of free-head conditions (hinge connections) are unreal for the elevated pile cap system with multiple piles of the long span sea-crossing bridges. On the other hand, elastic displacement method to evaluate the pile reactions under the pile cap is not suitable for this type of bridges due to impractical assumptions. So, full modeling techniques which analyze the superstructure and the substructure simultaneously should be performed. Loads and stress state of the very large diameter drilled shaft and the pile cap for Incheon Bridge which will the longest bridge in Korea were investigated through the full modeling for rigid connection conditions.

An integral abutment bridge refers to a jointless bridge with capped-pile stub type abutment. It has been used for more than 50 years in the United States and Canada. This paper briefly describes design and utilization of the PC beam integral abutment bridge which is adapted for Korea and shows its excellent performance compared with that of a jointed bridge. This study introduces the characteristics of structural behaviors of the integral bridge and also mentions about its attributes and limitations.
To study the carrying capacity behavior of pile, dynamic pile testis and static load tests were carried out on two instrumented piles during and some time after pile driving. Cone Penetration Test( CPT) and Standard Penetration Test(SPT) were also performed at the test site before pile tests to investigate the relationship between unit skin friction of piles and cone tip resistance values and SPT N values. Total static capacity of pile reached the ultimate stage at the pile head settlement of about 0.055D (D : Pile diameter), at which skin friction of Pile already Passed the maximum value, but the end bearing was still increasing with the pile head settlement. The carrying capacity of pile increased in the form of natural logarithmic function with the time after pile driving. The increase in skin friction with time was very substantial the increase in skin friction 40 days after pile driving was 4.6 times of that determined during pile driving. The contribution of skin friction to the total capacity twas insignificant in the beginning, but became substantial 40 days after pile driving. This implies that the tested pile initially responded as an end bearing pile and later behaved as a friction pile. It was also noted that unit skin friction of pile might be ielated to cone tip resistance values(q.) and SPT N values, though the coefficient of this relationship might differ from one soil group to another and was somewhat greater than the value used in the design practice of Korea.
