Changes in total nitrogen (T.N.) and total phosphate (T.P.) content in environmental waste water upon the reaction of biological purifying reagents were measured and the reaction rate was evaluated. The purification capacity of two biological purifying reagents composed of vegetable Lactobacillus fermentum (V.L.F.), Saccharomyces cerevisiae(S.C), and Bacillus subtilis(B.S.) were evaluated and compared with that of commercial water purification system operating by local government. After 18days of reaction, the mixture of V.L.F. and S.C. showed dramatic decrease of T.N.(36.21% of the initial value). The mixture of V.L.F., S.C., and B.S. showed faster reaction rate to decrease T.P. compared with that of the mixture of V.L.F. and S.C. The reaction constant of mixture of V.L.F. and S.C. was estimated to be 0.178 $day^{-1}$ by the curve fitting of the data of changes in T.N. during the reaction.
The purpose of this study is to estimate the stochastic monthly runoff model for the Kunwi south station of Wi-stream basin in Nakdong river system. This model was based on the theory of Box-Jenkins multiplicative ARlMA and the state-space model to simulate changes of monthly runoff. The forecasting monthly runoff from the pair of estimated effective rainfall and observed value of runoff in the uniform interval was given less standard error then the analysis only by runoff, so this study was more rational forecasting by the use of effective rainfall and runoff. This paper analyzed the records of monthly runoff and effective rainfall, and applied the multiplicative ARlMA model and state-space model. For the P value of V AR(P) model to establish state-space theory, it used Ale value by lag time and VARMA model were established that it was findings to the constituent unit of state-space model using canonical correction coefficients. Therefore this paper confirms that state space model is very significant related with optimization factors of VARMA model.
Pancreatic cancer is usually detected late and has a high mortality rate. Since little is known about this cancer in Malaysia, a review of all cases admitted to Universiti Sains Malaysia Hospital was conducted to identify the epidemiological distribution and assess survival. A list of pancreatic cancer patients in 2001-2008 was obtained from the Hospital Record Department. Only cases confirmed by radio-imaging or histo-pathology examination were included. We excluded those with incomplete medical records. Kaplan-Meier and Cox proportional hazard approaches were used for data analysis. Only 56 cases were included with a mean (SD) age of 49.6 (16.0) years, with 60.7% males and 82.1% of Malay ethnicity. Previous history included cholelithiasis in 23.2%, diabetes mellitus in 16.1%, previous laparotomy in 10.7%, chronic pancreatitis in 7.1%, alcohol drinking in 5.4% and positive family history in 3.6%. The common presenting history included 67.9% loss of appetite, 66.1% loss of weight, 58.9% jaundice and 46.4% abdominal pain. Tumour staging was: 21.5% stage l, 17.8% stage ll, 3.6% stage lll and 57.1% stage lV. The median (95% CI) survival time was 3.4 (0.5, 6.3) months and significant prognostic factors were duration of symptoms (HR 0.97; 95% CI: 0.95, 0.99; p value 0.013), ascites (HR 2.64; 95% CI: 1.28, 5.44; p value 0.008) and Whipple surgery (HR 4.20; 95% CI: 2.27, 7.76; p value <0.001). The history of presenting complaints was short and the majority presented at late stages of the disease, thus the median survival time was very poor.
The purpose of this study is to determine values and value changes of the four year course nursing college students. The survey was conducted against 262 students of the nursing college, from all classes (freshman, sophomre, junior and senior). This study was conducted during the period of first through 15th of December 1984 in accordance with the L.V. Gordon's“Survey of Interpersonal Values (SIV)”. The results of the study were as follows: 1. Those nursing students surveyed show that conformity (16.32) took the highest place and reconition (10.21) lowest in the general value orientation. In accordance with the Cordon's SIV, those of other woman college students indicate 14%ile-65%ile, respectively. 2. Changes in values by class indicate that freshman, sohpomore and senior students showed similar Pattern but junior students showed significantly lower than other classes. The difference should be considered on the basis of statistics (p <.05). Accordingly, the hypho-thesis 1 of this study has been supported. 3. Significant variation has been shown by each class in each factor such as support, conformity, independence and benevolence but no variation has been indicated in leadership and recognition. 4. There was difference in values between higher class (jounior and senior) students with clinical experience and starting class (freshman and sophomore) students without clinical experience. The study indicates the values of higher class. students is lower than that of starting class. students (P <.05). Therefor, the hyphothesis 2 of this study has been supported. 5. There was no significant difference in values between entering students and graduating students (p<.05), Thus, the hyphothesis 3 of this study has been rejected. The results of the finding of the study show that there is no positive influence in forming the values. for the students. Therefore, it is concluded that new strategy and special educational program should be established for formulation of the right values for the nursing college students.
A $N_2O_2$ Schiff base ligand, N,N'-bis(4-methoxysalicylidene)phenylendiamine (4-$CH_3O$-salphen) was synthesized. Using the 4-$CH_3O$-salphen, the spectrophoto-metric quantitative analysis of Cu(II) ion in aqueous solution was performed. The optimum condition for the quantitative analysis of Cu(II) ion was determined as the following; the concentration of 4-$CH_3O$-salphen is $2.0{\times}10^{-4}\;mol/L$, ratio between solvent DMSO and water is 50/50(v/v), pH is 5.5. After 1 hr water incubation at $55^{\circ}C$ and then the absorbance measurements at 388 nm, a calibration curve (${\varepsilon}=3.6{\times}10^4\;mol^{-1}cm^{-1}$) with a correlation coefficient ($R^2$=0.9963) was obtained in this condition. Using this optimized condition, the quantitative analysis of Cu(II) ion was performed with various samples such as hot spring water, semiconductor factory waste water and treated water from sewage treatment plant. The average value of the measured values agreed well with standard value with a range of 0.6~5.4%. The limit of determination was 31.77 ng/mL ($5.0{\times}10^{-7}\;mol/L$).
An investigation was carried out to study the characteristics of lipoxygenase in dioctyl sulfosuccinate (aerosol-OT, AOT)/isooctane revered micelles of microaqueous system containing infinitesimal water. ${\alpha}-Linoleic$ acid as a substrate could be analyzed by the colorimetric methodology using 5%(w/v) cupric acetate-pyridine solution and the activity of lipoxygenase was able to be assayed by the degree of ${\alpha}-linoleic$ acid consumption per minute. Optimal pH, temperature, and R-value ([water]/[AOT]) were determined as the value of 5.0, $25^{\circ}C$, and 10.0, respectively. Kinetic analysis of the enzyme reaction under the optimal conditions showed that the values of $K_m$ and $V_{max}$ were 0.31 mM of ${\alpha}-linoleic$ acid and $384.16{\mu}mol$ of ${\alpha}-linoleic$ acid decomposed/min, respectively. The results indicate the reaction to be lipoxygenase-catalyzed oxidation of ${\alpha}-linoleic$ acid in AOT/isooctane reversed micellar system. The inhibitory effect of natural antioxidants on lipoxygenase showed little inhibitory effect of L-ascrobic acid while ${\alpha}-tocopherol$ showed 72% of inhibitory effect.

Purpose : The usability of X-Jaw split VMAT was evaluated by comparative analysis of the dose distribution between the treatment plan divided by X-Jaw and Full field VMAT treatment plan in left breast cancer treatment including supraclavicular lymph nodes. Materials and Methods : 10 patients with left breast cancer, including supraclavicular lymph nodes, were simulated using vacuum cushion, and 2 Full field Arc VMAT and 4 X-Jaw split Arc VMAT were planned The treatment plan was designed to include more than 95% of the Planning Target Volume (PTV) and to be minimally irradiated in the surrounding Organ at risk (OAR). Dose analysis of PTV and OAR was performed through dose volume histogram (DVH). Results : The Full field VMAT treatment plan and the X-Jaw split VMAT treatment plan of 10 patients were expressed as average values and compared. The difference between the two treatment plans was not large, with a Conformity index (CI) of 1.05±0.04, 1.04±0.03, and a Homogeneity index (HI) of 1.07±0.008, 1.07±0.009. For OAR, V5 in the left lung is 56.1±6.50%, 50.4±6.30%, and V20 is 20.0±4.15%, 13.52±3.61%. Compared to Full field VMAT, V5 decreased by 10.0% V20 by 32.6% in X-Jaw split VMAT. The V30 of the heart is 3.68±1.85%, 2.23±1.52%, and the Mean dose is 8.93±1.65 Gy, 7.67±1.52 Gy. In the X-Jaw split VMAT, V30 decreased by 39.3% and the Mean dose decreased by 14.1%. The left lung and heart, which are normal tissues, were found to have a statistical significance of that p-value is less than 0.05. Conclusion : In the case of left breast cancer treatment, which includes Supraclavicular lymph nodes with a large PTV volume and a length of X Jaw of 15 cm or more, the X-Jaw split VMAT shows improved dose distribution, which can reduce radiation dose of OAR such as lungs and heart, while maintaining similar PTV coverage with HI and CI equivalent to Full field VMAT. It is thought to be effective in reducing radiation complications.
The objectives of this study were to manufacture casein phosphopeptide (CPP)/chitosan oligosaccharide (CSO) nanocomplexes and to investigate the impacts of manufacturing variables, such as CPP concentration and pH, on their morphological and physicochemical characteristics. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and particle size analysis were used to assess the morphological and physicochemical properties of the CPP/CSO nano-complexes, respectively. Based on the images obtained by TEM, the spherical shapes of the CPP/CSO nanocomplexes ranged from 50 to 150 nm. As the concentration of CPP was increased and the pH was decreased, the average particle size of the nanocomplexes significantly (p<0.05) increased. The CPP/CSO nanocomplexes had a highly uniform distribution with a polydispersity index value of less than 0.3. In addition, they had a negative surface charge with a zeta-potential value between -17 and -26 mV. The CPP/CSO nanocomplexes showed good stability during the freeze-drying process. In conclusion, CPP/CSO nanocomplexes were successfully manufactured, and the CPP concentration and pH were found to be key factors that affected their morphological and physicochemical properties.
Rice bran proteins from different cultivars(Youngan, Sindongjin, Suwon 511) were extracted with Xylanase using orthogonal analysis method and their functional properties were investigated. The optimum extraction conditions, based on protein content in the extract found to be at 1 wt% xylanase, pH 7 and 50:1, solvent to rice bran ratio(v/w %). Nitrogen solubility indices(NSI) of rice bran protein concentrates were shown a minimum value at pH 4 ranged 2~23%, varied with different cultivars and a maximum (NSI${\geq}$90% for all cultivars) at pH 10. As for water adsorption and fat adsorption capacity, rice bran protein concentrates were shown to be better than Na-caseinate and isolated soy protein, respectively. Emulsifying activities were observed high in order of Na-caseinate>Youngan rice bran protein>Shindongjin rice bran protein>Suwon 511 rice bran protein>isolated soy protein. In general, the surface tension of rice bran protein solution($10^{-3}$ wt%, 5 mM bis-tris, pH 7) was increased with increasing concentrations and found a minimum value near pI. On heating, it was decreased slightly with increasing temperatures up to $70^{\circ}C$ and then increased above $80^{\circ}C$. Addition of sodium chloride was made the surface tension decrease. In conclusion, with Xylanase, rice bran protein concentrate can be successfully extracted from the rice bran of different cultivars and the Youngan rice bran protein was thought to have best functionality among rice cultivars tested. It might be used as a milk protein substitute.
Aim: Little is known about the genetic associations with Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) risk in non-Caucasian populations, in which BCC is rare, as in Korea. We here conducted a pilot genome-wide association study (GWAS) in 12 patients and 48 standard controls. Method: A total of 263,511 SNPs were analyzed with the Illumina HumanOmni1 Quad v1.0 DNA Analysis BeadChip for cases and Korean HapMap 570K for controls. Results: SNP-based analyses, based on the allele genetic model with adjustment for sex and age showed suggestive associations with BCC risk for 6 SNPs with a P-value (P < 0.0005). However, these associations were not statistically significant after Bonferroni correction: rs1040503, rs2216491, rs13407683, rs4751072, rs9891263, and rs1368474. In addition, results from gene-based analyses showed suggestive associations with BCC risk for 33 candidate genes with a P-value (P <0.0005). Consistent with previous GWAS and replication studies in Caucasian populations, PADI6, RHOU and SLC45A2 were identified as having null associations with BCC (P > 0.05), likely due to the smaller sample size. Conclusions: Although this was a small-scale negative study, to our knowledge, we have conducted the first GWAS for BCC risk in an Asian population. Further large studies in non-Caucasian populations are required to achieve statistical significance and confirm these findings.
